Raymond McKinnon's Message
From the moment the third round draw was made, everyone at the cutb has been relishing the prospect of playing Ayr United this afternoon
And lor the third tine this season, lite bit of history is being crealed
Our meeting with Bathgate in the first round was not only the first tirne both cutbs had played in the Scotish Cup, but also the tirst tirme two Junior sides had laced each other in the competition
Then, of course, we met Buckie Thistle, wich was Our first ever compotitive meet ing with a Highland League side
Having fought our way through those two ties, our lirst ever meeting with a Scottish League club ranks as the biggest day in the club's history.
Certainly. the match has caught the public's imagination.
And having been the centre of huge media attention this week hasn't detracted from us focussing on trying to create even more history by beating Ayr.
Not that everything has gone according to plan this week
Our normal Monday training session at Gussie Park had to be cancelled because the astroturt required repainng
So with the very short notice, we ended up training under street lights at Lochee Park To say the least. t was the last thing we need, this all weeks, but maybe it's an
However, Ibelieve that we are as well prepared as we coukd possibly be for the biggest ever game in the club's his lory.
Weve had Ayr watched twice and had other reports hiled on therm
I've managed to get my hands on DVDs of their games so weve done our homework
But glven that theyre gving teams a hammering most weeks, we had to do that to give oursetves a chance
No matter the outcome of this tie, I am immensely proud of what the players have achieved in the Scottish Cup.
Underdogs we may be, but that doesn't mean that we are not capable of further glory
We are going into the game with absolutely nothing to lose.
Ive tokd the players that if they can raise their game to a new level and Ayr's standards shade a little then we're in with a shout.
One thing in our favour is they won't relish coming here and hopetully it will be another day to remember.

BLUEBELLS'S BRIEFINGS
I aKnockout
Since making their entrance on the Scottish Cup stago against Bathgate hwo months ago, league business has had to take a backseat
AmazingBy, of the nine garnes played sinco. just two have been in the Superleague Scottish Cup and conmitrnents at both senior and Junior level plus inter-reqional ies mean that the Bluebels have competed in no less than four diferont cup competitions
And with the GA Engineering Cup the onty exted ater defeat at Turit, more cup football is on the agenda More immediately, of course, is this atternoon's tie with Ayr United as Ray McKinnon's men try to do what no othegr Junior side has yet achieved, deleat a side Irom the SPL
Last season, Pollok held MontroSe at Links Park, but desprte home advanage went down to the only goal of the gaTe in the Newlandsfield replay
Meanwhile, in reaching the fourth round, Linlithgow Rose didn't meet an SFL SIde accOunting for Newton Slewart Spartans and Dalbeattie Slar before going out to Oueen of the South, losing 4-0 to the eventual cup runners-up
So it the Bluebelis can cause a shock this afternoon, those here today will be seeing history in the making

Lochee United JFC History
Lochee United FootbalI Club was first established in 1892 as a jvenile outfit and the tearn spert rrary of their early years operating as such
They spent a short period of time as an armateur side just after the last war. betore goirg on to estat lish themselves as a club in the then Dundee Junior Football Association, later to become the Taysde Region Junior Foottball Association
Prior to 1959 the club had not had a permanent home grournd and had played at a number of ditferent venues over the years.
However, things changed that year when they moved into their present home at Thomson Park (right). the ground being opened by the then Rangers captain George Young. Having become established in the top divison the 'BluebeBls began to bring siverware to Thomson Park regularty trorn 1960. The late seventies started what proved to be a hugety successtul decade for the club culm1nating in the winning of seventeen honours from 1977 to 1987
This golden period ended in 1987 and Lochee United suffered the ignominy of relegation in 1993.
Despite winning promotion back to the top division at the first attempt the club were not, until recently. contention for any honours.
In recent years, the Bluebels fortunes have been on the up, and they have once again become one of the leading junior teams, winning the Tayside Premier League quite convincingly, and thus elevating themselves to the newly established East Region Super League. Lochee United finished 4th in the East Region Superleague in season 03-04
In season 04-05 success continued with the team reaching the final of the O.V.D. Scottish Cup, and finishing as East Region Superleague Champions (pic above).
Season 05-06,06-07 brought vanous cup success.
season 07-08 saw Lochee United becoming East Super League Champions tor a second time also winning the DJ Laing Cup and the Redwood Leisure Cup to complete another good season. But of course, it was winning the title that opened another chapter by this season's first ever appearance in the Scottish Cup
THEBLUEBELL'Ss HISTORY MAKING SCOTTISH CUP PROGRESS PART 1
Lochee United created a bit of club history on Saturday. but they had to come from behind before securing their place in the second-round draw of the senior Scottish Cup.
In an all-Super League tie against Bathgate, in front of a healthy crowd, the Bluebells made a positive start with Charlie Cargill shooting just over, but the Lothian side settled and lain Ross was forced to make a fine save from an lain Nicolson shot.
After a short spell of Bathgate pressure, which saw Kenny McMillan head a Brian McPhee header off the line, the visitors were awarded what looked like a soft penalty in 23 minutes. Greg Kirk seemed to win the ball cleanly in a challenge wth Stephen Menmuir, but the reteree thought otherwise and Paul Harvey made no mistake from the spot. The Bluebelis should have equalised when Phip Hagan set up Craig Robertson before the break, but the strikers first-time effort flew over the bar. Ray McKinnon's side made their intentions known as they started the second half on top. They had the Bathgate defence pinned back, but onty had a weak Stuart Abbot shot to show for their efiorts That all changed in 64 minutes when they were awarded a penalty. although talso seemed in the soft category. Gary Faßon and Craig Robertson tangled in the bOx and, despte Bathgate protests, the decision was a penalty and Hagan sent the keeper the wrong way
Aher that, there was onty going to be one winner, aithough Bathgate bnefly threatened when Brian
McPhee raced clear, but hooked his shot wide.
It was Lochee, however, who continued most of the attacking and they edged in front in 80 minutes when Paul Blackwood was fouled on the edge of the box and Craig Robertson made up for his first-hal miss by firing home the free kick via the underside of the bar.
Two minutes later, it was game over and, once again, Blackwood had a big hand in the goal. He doggedly tackled a Bathgate defender in his own box and as the ballbroke to Cargill, the Thomson Park skipper coolly picked his spot from seven yards. do
Edinburgh Evening News, John Gilmour
Injury-ravaged Bathgate were sent crashing out of the Scottish Cup 3-1 by a second half charge from Lochee in a cometback which saw them overturn the visitors' lead and stake a place in the draw for the second round.
Bathgate were without several key players, and several walking wounded had to take their place in a disjointed starting eleven.
Afterwards, boss Willie Hill was a disappointed man.
He said: "We had players out who have played a huge part in the success we've enjoyed, but that's no excuse. We were holding them until the last 20 minutes when they started to get the breaks.
"We deserved our half-time lead because we were the better team in that half, but they had to come at us after the interval. We expected that.
"The two penalties were soft and the free kick for their second goal was a poor decision. Overall we're disappointed we couldn't make the next round.

THE BLUEBELL'S HISTORY MAKING SCOTTISH CUP PROGRESS PART 2
Lochee United gafler Ray McKinnon's dream of pitching his side against SPL opposition remains well and truly alrve ater a thoroughly deseved win over Buckie Thistle to reach the third round of the Scottish Cup.
At a wind-swept Thomson Park, the home side cruised to a 30 vnctory against a Highland league outit that was second best apart from the opening wenty minutes
Indeed. the East Region Super League champi ons looked supernor both in skill and stamina. Now the Bluebel's are just one game away from possibty rubbing shoulders with the Old Firm and the like
From the momet that Craig Robertson latched on to a Gary Middieton fick to open the scoring after 30 minutes, the wrting was on the wal for their Northerm vsitors
Especially when detender Kevin Smith was sent of for chopping down Paul BlackwOod as the striker bore n on goal three minutes after the re star
When Robertson scored again ten minutes into the second half after being set up by a delightful Blackwood durmmy, it was game over.
And for good measure Man-of-the-Match Gary Middleton completed the scoing in 79 minutes with a brithant curling let-footed effort from the edge ot the box
The Jags' misery was complete when substitute Martin Charlesworth was shown a straight red card for slamping on McMillan shortly betore tthe end
Evening Telegraph
Lochee United created another piece ot club history by reaching the third round of Ihe
Homecoming Scottish Cup after beating Buckie Thistle of the Highland League 3-0
It was another terrific performance from Ray Mckinnon's side and the Bluebells manager was naturally delighted with the result. He said, "We are over the mnoon with the result and pertomance. The first goal was always going to be crucial and the sending off changed the game because, after that, we totally destroyed them.
Under the guidance of new manager Gregg Carroll for the first ine, Buckie started brightly. but, by the finish, Carroll was left in no doubt about the size of task facing him.
Euan MCArthur, Daily Record
