SHAKESPEARE’S GLOBE www.shakespearesglobe.com TITUS ADRONICUS OPENS 24 APRIL Titus was the smash hit of Shakespeare’s early career and is written with a ghoulish energy he was never to repeat elsewhere. Critics have described the production as “exhilarating” and “diabolically and winningly funny”. ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA FROM 17 MAY Cleopatra, the alluring and fascinatingly ambiguous Queen of Egypt has bewitched the great Mark Antony, soldier, campaigner and now one of the three rulers of the Roman Empire. Phil Daniels plays the part of Enobarbus in what is Shakespeare’s greatest exploration of the conflicting claims of sex and power.

THE LAST DAYS OF TROY FROM 10 JUNE The Greeks are laying siege to Troy to win back their abducted queen. But as the conflict drags on, and despite battlefields scarlet with blood, opposing forces have reached a bitter stalemate. Desperate and exhausted, both Gods and mortals squabble amongst themselves for the spoils of war and the hand of victory. KING LEAR FROM 6 AUGUST Old King Lear played by Joseph Marcell (he played Geoffrey the English butler in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) is weary of royal duties. He proposes to break up his kingdom and divide it among his three daughters. But this rash generosity is cruelly repaid and Lear discovers too late the false values by which he has lived. Strongly recommended.

This brilliantly moving story of denial, guilt and social responsibility is Miller at his best. HOBSON’S CHOICE BEGINS 12 JUNE - 12 JULY Bombastic bootshop owner Henry Horatio Hobson takes umbrage to his daughter’s intention to marry long-suffering boot-maker Willie Mossop. Through her determination, they wed, set up a rival establishment and orchestrate Hobson’s fall from grace. Mark Benton (Strictly Come Dancing) takes the role of Henry Hobson, with Jodie McNee as his daughter, Maggie.

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD 28 AUGUST - 13 SEPTEMBER Set in the Deep South, Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel sees racial injustice envelop a small-town community.
