This powerful and innovative mobile crushing plant is now hard at work with other Powerscreen crushing and screening equipment, processing quarried Basalt at Malcolm’s Loanhead Quarry, Bieth near Glasgow, which the company acquired in 2006. The company has also purchased a new 1150 Maxtrak cone crusher to achieve type 1 sizes for drainage and concrete aggregate. The Premiertrak 600, recently introduced by Powerscreen, is a high performance primary jaw crusher, offering an impressive throughput of around 600 tonnes per hour. It is quick and easy to set up and robustly engineered for high production quarrying and recycling applications – and is especially suited to processing hard rock. The 1200mm X 820mm jaw chamber incorporates many user-friendly features, including a fully hydraulic CSS range of 75mm - 200mm. The high capacity jaw is fed by a vibrating grizzly feeder with variable speed control and a large grizzly area to maximise removal of fine material, thereby prolonging the wear life of jaw plates within the crusher chamber. The bypass chute is also fitted with wearresistant liners as standard, and incorporates an adjustable five-position deflector plate to

divert material to either the product or side conveyors. The product and tail conveyors can be raised and lowered hydraulically. The controls incorporate a state of the art, modern interface with intuitive graphics and high resolution display for ease of operation. There is automatic stop/start as well as diagnostic and machine adjustment capability. The speed of the jaw crusher on the Premiertrak 600 can be varied to suit the application and feed materials, thereby optimising performance. operator of construction tipper trucks in Scotland - the company also has a large fleet of roll-on-off vehicles and skips. As part of its involvement in quarrying and C&D waste recycling, Malcolm Construction Services has also built up a modern and versatile fleet of mobile crushing plants, screeners and associated equipment capable of processing quarried material as well as construction and demolition waste. Malcolm Construction Services has been a Powerscreen customer for more than 25 years and a Blue Scotland Customer since inception 18 years ago, with Blue supplying a Pegson 11800 jaw
crusher, 1000 and 1300 cone crushers, as well as two Chieftain 1800 screening plants when the quarry opened nine years ago. Due to the trouble free processing for ten years the decision was simple to stick with the brand they know and trust and this latest plant acquisition further cements a long and fruitful business relationship. Loanhead Quarry produces a comprehensive range of bulk fill materials and maintains a large stock of aggregates for construction and civil engineering projects, with the ability to generate non-specific types on request for both internal and external markets. Stocks include Type 1 Sub-Base CL803, 0/80mm crusher run, 50/100mm, 20/40mm, 10/20mm and 10/14mm single size crushed Whinstone and 0/6mm crushed fine aggregate. Loanhead Quarry serves a national customer base throughout Scotland and beyond. Malcolm Construction Services’ Plant Manager at Loanhead, Freddie McAlister, commented “We chose this new generation Premiertrak 600 because we have successfully used Powerscreen machines for many years and know their excellent build quality, reliability and proven longevity. We also like the independent live pre-screen on this new machine, which allows us to extract lower quality -40mm scalpings during the process. We’ve enjoyed a long partnership with Blue Machinery Scotland who have consistently been of great help both during the selection and buying process and, particularly, with their first rate after sales product support”.

Blue steals the show RWM 2015 Round-up
Blue again wowed visitors at this year’s RWM exhibition held at the NEC in Birmingham. The 430m2 double decker stand proved to be one of the shows star attractions pulling in thousands of visitors over the three day event. At this year’s exhibition, the Blue stand incorporated 6 pieces of equipment from across our portfolio. The Doppstadt Ceron 256 slow speed shredder was always going to turn heads when opened up to reveal its fearsome 3m steel shaft, 34 teeth and 380kW motor. The BlueMAC All Metal Separator which extracts both ferrous and not ferrous material across a wide variety of applications also received plenty of attention, particularly from overseas distributors.

BlueMAC were further represented in the form of a 7m long trommel which doubled up as the main access to the stand’s upper deck. Also featured on the stand was the instantly recognisable and highly impressive Fuchs MHL 250, showing off its spacious, sound-insulated full vision steel cab which can be raised hydraulically to a viewing level of 5.20m. The Westeria AirBasic Air Density Separator initially brought some confused looks from many of the visitors to the stand, however once the technology and benefits had been explained, it generated numerous enquiries.
Of all the events we attend as exhibitors, RWM is clearly the most significant, which is why we invest so heavily in our stand. The event allows us to showcase our unrivalled portfolio of world-leading equipment and for existing and potentially new customers to speak with our highly knowledgeable sales teams. Brian Maxwell, Blue Group Director
Last, but certainly not least, the Hartl brand was represented in the form of the HBC 950 crusher bucket featuring its H-Lock quick coupling system. Overall it was an incredibly successful event for The Group. Not only did it provide an excellent opportunity to catch up with customers, but there was also numerous deals signed. Matt Scott from Blue London
secured the sale of a Powerscreen jaw crusher. Chris Quinn, Conor McVeigh and Martyn Yarde all sold Doppstadt SM 620 screens to Trent Valley Skip Hire, CRJ and Cotswold Recycling Ltd respectively and three Fuchs Material Handlers were sold by the team at Blue Fuchs including a MHL 250 waste specification to A1 SupaSkips in Lancaster, see page 18.
Blue have already booked their stand at RWM for next year, so make sure you put it in the diary - 13-15th September 2016.

Refuse Derived Fuel
Efforts to ensure responsible production The practice of creating Refuse Derived Fuel, (RDF) and sending it to energy from waste facilities, usually overseas and elsewhere within the European Union is becoming a more commonplace method of managing residual waste.
Clearly it can bring significant benefits by creating another outlet for this type of waste and reducing the amount that goes into landfill. Furthermore the energy that is created by the waste often provides heating and lighting for communities local to the facilities. Due to these two factors, the popularity of this waste management option is growing, demonstrated by the rapid increase in exports of RDF from virtually nil before 2010 to almost 2.4 million tonnes in 2014. It is because of this drastic increase in the production of RDF that the government is clearly monitoring the sector to ensure that it develops responsibly whilst looking to maximise its potential. Firstly as part of the Environment Agency’s quest to create an RDF market involving genuine businesses and not, as they put it, “speculative operations without concern for final destination”, the Agency is looking to create a ‘concise ‘ definition of RDF, as they feel it will assist the more focused organisations involved in this particular sector.
6
Call 0345 217 8755 Email sales@blue-group.com
In a recent article on letsrecycle.com, they highlight an email despatched last month from the Environment Agency to stakeholders involved in the Waste Management industry, asking them to comment on the proposed definition.
The definition proposed by the Environment Agency defines RDF material as:
A fuel produced from residual waste that meets an end user contractual specification for recovery at an energy from waste facility.
Letsrecycle.com also highlight in the email that the Agency emphasises they do not want to prevent or even negatively affect the production of RDF for appropriate and permitted use in the UK, or indeed elsewhere. They do however want to ensure that entry to the market “is constrained to those who are producing RDF for a genuine recovery end use, with an end user contractual specification in place, and not on a speculative basis without concern for final destination”. The email further goes on to state that the proposed definition is “therefore concise within those terms” and hopes that the statement “will clarify RDF sufficiently to enable both operators and regulators to understand when they are dealing with RDF for energy/heat recovery and residual waste that has no recovery end use”. All this follows a ‘call for evidence’ from the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) on the UK’s RDF market in March 2014. Here they asked for evidence invited views and evidence on any issues affecting the RDF market in England, as well as the need for government intervention and the form such intervention might take.
The key findings in the report, which were published a number of months ago, identified: 1. There were concerns that the requirements relating to RDF are not always followed as closely as they should be and there were calls for tighter enforcement. The time taken for authorities to investigate illegal activity enables operators to move on before any action can be taken. This includes operators who accept waste under the guise of making it into RDF for export and then deliberately abandon it without ever exporting it. There were also concerns that some operators store large quantities of RDF for long periods, resulting in environmental problems such as leaching, odour and pests with clean-up costs having to be met by the public authorities. 2. Respondents noted that some operators are producing poor quality RDF that contains significant quantities of recyclates. 3. Respondents also noted that some operators produce RDF on a speculative basis and await the most favourable market conditions before entering into a contract. This can result in the stockpiling of RDF as it awaits an end-user. 4. A small number of respondents were concerned that exports of RDF are reducing the availability of RDF on the domestic market. This discourages investment in new ‘energy from waste’ facilities in England, especially merchant plants.
Other concerns raised by respondents included the lack of spare capacity in domestic energy from waste facilities, which encourages the export of RDF. A few respondents also stated that the planning process for new facilities is too bureaucratic and restrictive, hampering the development of new infrastructure.
Time to Wrap it Up! The UK’s first Cross Wrap Direct machine The UK’s first Cross Wrap Direct machine has been sold into Shows Waste Management Ltd as part of a system to process various waste streams for their existing RDF and SRF contracts to mainland Europe. Other pieces of equipment supplied by Area Sales Manager Conor McVeigh from Blue Central include a new Doppstadt DW3060K Shredder and a fully refurbished mobile Twin Ram Baler. The fully automatic Cross Wrap Direct Waste Wrapper is designed for twin ram balers, wrapping the waste directly from the bale chamber reducing litter and resulting in an overall cleaner process. There are no ties involved in the revolutionary, patented technology, minimising costs while maximising efficiencies within the plant. In addition to RDF and SDF, the technology works equally as well with all kinds of waste materials, including those that are notoriously difficult to handle, such as wood chips, electrical waste and fibers. Commenting on the deal, Warren Steele, Managing Director at Shows Waste Management commented. “As always the team at Blue go further than simply selling you a piece of equipment. They take the time to understand the business and its objectives, ultimately identifying a complete solution that will deliver over the long term.” Having worked with us for many years, Blue was Warren’s first call when he was looking to improve the efficiency and reduce costs across the RDF production process. To ensure we supplied the right kit for Warren’s needs, the team at Blue Central travelled across Europe to see the Cross Wrap equipment in action, before delivering it on-time and to budget.

At a panel discussion which took place at the RWM Exhibition on Wednesday 16th September it was clear that there is little support for a ‘standard’ for RDF and that exports to Europe seem to be stabilising after dramatic increases in recent years. www.blue-group.com

Achieve a final product cost effectively for wood waste, biomass, green waste and more applications with the new Doppstadt HS 401 Selector. Benefits include fuel savings, low environmental emissions, and low running costs ensuring a more profitable return.
How it works The material is fed in to the Selector via the front conveyor of the 3060. It then runs over a star screen fitted to a Hook lift Frame or SM Hopper, with the desired material size falling through and on to a conveyor for stockpiling. Any oversized material is carried over the screen to a further conveyor which takes it back into the DW 3060 for re-shredding.

Blue Spares means business How OEM quality parts and reliable service helped this UK business grow
The UK’s fastest growing Doppstadt equipment repair and hire company has identified Blue Spares as a major contributing factor to its dramatic growth.
Repair company, Ramsbury Plant, was established in 1950 by W J Waite. Sixty years later, his son, Dave Waite and his business partner decided to expand the business and offer contract hire of world leading Doppstadt equipment. With a culmination of 15 years experience of Doppstadt equipment between them, their objective was to help maintain productivity on site and maximise their customer’s profitability. Initially looking to take things slowly with the purchase of a Doppstadt AK 510 and a SM 620, the pair have been overwhelmed by the demand, with their fleet growing accordingly. It now comprises of sixteen machines, including high and low speed shredders as well as several screens.
Genuine parts help ensure the safe working of the machine and will not effect insurance policies like non-original parts can do. Dave Waite, Ramsbury Plant
From the very outset, when the focus was purely on the maintenance and repair of Doppstadt equipment, Dave saw the benefit of only using genuine parts for their work. Commenting, he stated, “It’s about supplying a quality service to the customer and providing peace of mind for us. Genuine Doppstadt parts fit perfectly, allowing for quick and easy installation, ultimately minimising downtime and whole life

cost for the customer. More than that however, genuine parts help ensure the safe working of the machine and will not effect insurance policies like non-original parts can do”. The efficient supply of genuine parts and depth of technical knowledge provided by the team at Blue Spares has helped Dave build an exceptional reputation and strong relationships with his customers. This level of backup has enabled Dave to focus on developing his customer base and growing his business. Commenting on his association with Blue Spares, Dave went on to say, “We have developed a strong relationship over the years due to the support the team at Spares has given us. It’s allowed us to grow our credibility within the sector, not only on the maintenance side, but also the hiring of machines. They know exactly what part is required and I know that when an order has been placed the part is going to turn up when and where we specify.”
Improving Productivity Brett Aggregates strengthen their reputation with the new Powerscreen CH1400 from Blue London Brett Aggregates is an established construction and building materials group. With over 100 years of experience and expertise Brett Aggregates have built up a solid reputation as a company who get things done to a very high standard quickly and efficiently. Being one of the largest independent companies of their kind in the UK, Brett Aggregates produce sand and gravel for the quarry, marine dredged aggregates and coated roadstone industries in London, the East and South East of England. Brett Aggregates also provide a wide variety of traditional and recycled products from 32 quarry’s and wharves in the same areas. In a bid to improve both the productivity and output of their Lenham site in Kent, Brett Aggregates recently purchased a Powerscreen Chieftain 1400 from Blue Machinery London. Site manager Derek Knight was very pleased with the level of detail provided by the salesman (Matt Scott) and also with the level of after sales care that Blue Machinery provide. Mr Knight said: ‘I found the level of detail and information given to me by Blue Machinery was excellent. The sales rep was very helpful and not pushy, no jargon he just offered the facts. The after sales service is very important, I was invited up to the local workshop to view the facilities and machinery and talked through the level of service that was on offer even to the detail of how many spares were held locally and centrally.’ The machine suits the aims of the company and will help Brett Aggregates ensure the future of the site is sustainable, successful and profitable. In regards to how the machine will improve company operations, Derek Knight said:
‘The existing plant was old and inefficient, the purchase of the new machine from Blue Machinery has doubled productivity. As well as increasing productivity the CH1400 mobile screener gives us the flexibility to move the machine to other local operations with minimal set up costs’ Due to Brett Aggregates regularly dealing with sand and gravel, the Chieftain 1400 was a perfect fit for them due to its ability to operate in a number of applications including their primary application.
‘I found the level of detail and information given to me by Blue Machinery was excellent. The sales rep was very helpful and not pushy, no jargon he just offered the facts. Derek Knight, Brett Aggregates
Blue London were also excited about the deal and were very glad to provide Brett Aggregates with the ideal machine to suit their needs. Salesman Matt Scott worked hard to secure this deal and was very happy when Brett Aggregates chose Blue London and Powerscreen. Matt had this to say: ‘Brett Aggregates undertook a detailed look at what was available on the market and we are delighted that they chose Powerscreen as the best performing screen in its class. The deal proved superb value for both parties.’ The Powerscreen CH1400 has now been in operation for a couple of months and Brett Aggregates are extremely happy with the results of their investment. www.blue-group.com

Powerscreen Pulse Remote Monitoring Firstly Powerscreen have now officially launched their Pulse Telematics System which provides equipment owners with a vast amount of invaluable operational data. The information can improve machine operation, increase uptime and allow in-depth reporting and fleet management. The main benefit of Powerscreen Pulse is that it will help Blue customers ensure the efficient use and proactive maintenance of their Powerscreen crushers, preventing potentially costly and time-consuming failures. It will also maximise the residual value of the machine. All this is achieved by the machine reporting any harsh operation

or other maintenance issues that are likely to not effect the machine in the long term. For example, excessive idling, which burns fuel and runs down warranty hours can be captured and reported via email, so steps can be taken to prevent such actions going forward. The data is sent every hour using GPS, and can be viewed on a pc, tablet and even a smartphone. It is available anywhere, at any time and provides comprehensive data including GPS location, start and stop times, fuel consumption, tonnages, cone settings, wear ratings, operating hours, maintenance status and much more.

Initially the technology is available across the crushing platform, including both Tier 3 and Tier 4 engines, apart from the 1500 Maxtrak and Premiertrak 750 models. Powerscreen are looking to incorporate the new technology within their screening units in 2016.
Developments
from Powerscreen
Over the last few month’s Powerscreen has announced some exciting new technological and product developments, which were discussed and demonstrated at their World Dealer Conference back in March this year.
The Cheiftain 2200 Screen This new screen is designed for operators who process high volumes of specific materials, yet are looking for maximum versatility.
The machine has two double deck screenboxes which provide an impressive screening area of 19.5m2 as well as a revolutionary patent pending drive system, which allows for switching between 2 and 4 bearings with bolt-on parts. The maximum variability of the Chieftain 2200 sets it apart from its rivals in the same class, especially in sticky scalping applications. User benefits include a quick set-up time, which can be under 30 minutes due to the hydraulically folding conveyors and track mobility and its highly aggressive screenboxes which can handle notoriously difficult material with ease.

Walsh Waste are a Galway-based, family run business operating across the domestic, commercial, industrial and building waste sectors, with their extensive range of waste management services incorporating the collection and safe disposal of both solid and liquid waste.
Walsh Waste choose BlueMAC Creativity and expertise maximise plant efficiency The business has been established for 43 years and there is a clear focus on offering the most professional, affordable and personalised waste collection and recycling service available throughout Galway City and across the County. One of the many reasons the business has grown and prospered since its inception in 1972, is its understanding and determination to constantly improve its efficiencies, maximising the volumes of recycled materials, along with a desire to achieve a zero to landfill scenario. On the back of this, the company applied for and was granted planning to build an MRF to help achieve their goals. Having spoken to a number of businesses including BlueMAC at last year’s RWM Exhibition,
they asked BlueMAC to design some potential concepts that would improve the quality of the final aggregate material and increase the amount of recovered ferrous and non-ferrous material. Despite some intense competition, and no prior working relationship, BlueMAC was chosen predominantly due to their creativity in designing a plant that specifically fitted the needs of the business. Commenting on the project, Tom Walsh, Managing Director of Walsh Waste stated. “We really felt that the guys at BlueMAC listened to our needs. Knowing the industry as we do, we were clear on what we wanted to achieve but needed expertise on creating a plant that fulfilled our objectives. The team at BlueMAC certainly did that”

The Process Initially the material is screened to +30mm and -30mm via a 7 metre BlueMac Trommel. From the -30mm fraction an over-band magnet recovers any ferrous metal while the +30mm is processed by a 3 bay sorting station to recover the oversized wood, rigid plastic and paper/card. An over-band magnet recovers the ferrous from the +30mm waste stream before a 30kW Air Knife/Blower removes any remaining lights from the hard-core fraction to leave a high quality, clean rubble.

Initially this will focus on setup, operation, fault finding and preventative maintenance regimes for not only internal Staff, but also for customers and their staff. The first training seminar to be held in the early part of the 4th quarter of 2015.
Caithness Flagstone helps pave the way to Scottish remote areas With the Powerscreen 1000 Maxtrak cone crusher and Blue Scotland Caithness Flagstone Limited have recently purchased a Powerscreen 1000 Maxtrak Cone crusher from Blue Scotland, for the purpose of producing a quality 40mm sub-base for their client. The stone is to be used as part of a project to create access roads to remote areas meaning the strength of this natural material is a perfect solution. Caithness Flagstone Limited is based in Wick Caithness in the North of Scotland, where full scale commercial quarrying began almost 200 years ago. Today, not only do the company produce high quality aggregate for which the Powerscreen crusher is used, but also domestic and commercial flooring, building material and even headstones The 1000 Maxtrak is the latest in a range of Powerscreen crushers and screeners purchased by Caithness flagstone. Within this particular application it is fed by a 40 tonne excavator, for which it is ideally suited. Pre-screening is not required due to the clean Caithness rock. At the heart of the machine is the Automax® cone crusher which provides an excellent reduction and product cubicity ensuring high quality aggregate and sub-base material for Caithness and their customers. Commenting on the deal, Paul Sutherland (director Caithness flagstone ltd), “we have worked with Blue Scotland for a long time now and they have always offered an incredible aftersales service, and that is in addition to the top quality Powerscreen machines that are available through Blue. I have no doubt that as our business continues to grow, so will our fleet of equipment from Blue”

SUPASKIPS based in Lancashire placing their first order with Chris Matthews (Fuchs Regional Sales Manager) for a full waste specification Fuchs MHL250E material handler.
SUPASKIPS take the next progressive step forward on the Blue Group stand at 2015 RWM show SUPASKIPS is one of the largest skip and waste recycling companies in the North West. The company started when Mel Welsh, Company Director, swapped his old Ford Capri for an old skip lorry and four skips. Since these humble beginnings, the company has gone from strength to strength and now, 25 years later, operates from its new site on Lune Industrial Estate, Lancaster which they moved to in 2003. From this site the company is able to tip, sort and recycle 800 tonnes of waste a day and currently diverts up to 97% of waste away from landfill – an amazing 680 tonnes of waste a day that would previously have ended up in a landfill site somewhere in the area. Continued investment in equipment and staff has made SUPASKIPS one of the key waste companies in the North West. With the latest decision on investment being to purchase a new material handler, Mel was keen to ensure the decision on the machine would allow them to take the next progressive step forward. After looking at various different options Mel decided upon the Fuchs range of material handlers and specifically the MHL250E Waste Specification. With its reach of 8.8 meters

and a height adjustable cab, giving a viewing height of 5.2 meters, the 15 ton machine allows for safe, fast and efficient material handling and loading. This is a new approach to waste handling for us and we are hoping it will improve our efficiency as it is a more versatile machine than we have previously used. Our decision to purchase a material handler was driven by requiring a machine that would work well in a width/height restricted area whilst still being manoeuvrable and quick enough to service different yards and stockpiles. It should also provide us with the ability to maximise the amount of materials we can load into walking floor and ejector trailers as the raised cab allows visualisation of the waste loading. Maximising the load we can get into trailers minimises the impact of the transportation costs, which becomes ever more important as waste has to travel greater distances. Our decision to purchase the material handler from Fuchs has a lot to do with the approach of their staff to the customer. All members of staff, especially the sales manager Chris Matthews, that I dealt with, were friendly, efficient and very helpful, answering all my questions and queries both in and out of hours. Supporting deserving sporting talent Blue sponsors BMX rider Lewis Holmes Blue are continuing their tradition of helping sporting talent with the recent inclusion of local BMX rider Lewis Holmes to their sponsorship listings. The agreement will see Blue provide financial support until the end of the 2016 season, which will go towards travel costs, safety equipment, race clothing, entry fees, accommodation and bike parts. In return Lewis will wear the Blue logo on his race shirt, race gloves, helmet, neck brace, goggles strap, trackside hoody and trackside chair. Earlier this year Lewis was selected by British Cycling to represent Great Britain in the 2015 UCI BMX World Championships which was held at the former F1 track Circuit Zolder Belgium in July. The World Championship is obviously a massive competition with 3000 riders from over 40 countries worldwide taking part. Lewis was 1 of 16 boys in his age category that were selected from clubs across Great Britain, which was a huge achievement in itself for Lewis. Lewis had an amazing experience at his first World Championships and finished 70th overall in the world.
We were really impressed to hear about Lewis’s impressive rise through the BMX ranks and are pleased to support him in his racing throughout this and next season. We wish him every success in the future. Pat McGeary, Blue Group Chairman
Sponsorship deal with professional golfer, Liam Hancock. Blue are delighted to announce a 3 year Sponsorship deal with up and coming and recently turned professional golfer, Liam Hancock. Liam, who is now 19, has been hitting golf balls since the age of 4 under the guidance of his dad, and going on to play at county level throughout his junior years. By the time Liam reached 16 years of age his handicap was just 4, and at 18 he was invited to attend the UK’s Golf College at Haywards Heath. Under the stewardship and coaching of professional golfers, Paul Lyons and Denis Pugh, plus an extensive coaching team, Liam’s game became ever stronger. It not only developed on the skill side, but the college also worked on the psychological elements of the game as well as the fitness, both of which are key in professional golf today. Since leaving collage Liam has enjoyed a number of very respectable finishes in pro events including an 11th and 8th place, which encouraged him to officially turn pro in July of this year. Since then he has joined the Euro Pro Tour with the aim of improving his game and gaining valuable experience over the initial 12 months. We wish Liam lots of success as he pursues a career in golf and we shall be posting updates of how Liam gets on our twitter page: @blue_machinery
