Both members of the team completed the challenging ride and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

02

To date the team’s magnificent effort has raised over £5,000 for Cancer Research. Both riders would like to thank everyone who supported the event, in particular the Blue Group, Powerscreen, Kiverco, Doppstadt and Harpscreen for their sponsorship of the team shirts. Also, huge thanks needs to go to the support team who helped the guys throughout by keeping their energy levels high and offering encouragement along the way. Commenting on the success of the charity cycle ride, Sean Warburton said “The Blue Spares team has long been considering how it could give something back to the community and with a recycling background wanted to do something that tied in with our Green ethos. The idea to cycle to our other Blue offices was born out of our desire to showcase the UK coverage that Blue Spares and the Blue Group have in the Recycling and Quarrying sectors. I would personally like to thank all of our shirt sponsors and everybody that supported us on the weekend and has generously contributed to our chosen charity Cancer Research.”

Maxilead Metals Terex Fuchs MHL340D FQC As one of the largest family owned and operated metal recycling companies in the North West, Maxilead Metals pride themselves on offering an extensive range of recycling solutions helping to contribute to the sustainability of natural resources and the protection of the environment. To aid in the processing of a wide variety of materials which pass through their state-of-the-art recycling facility in Manchester the company has recently invested in a new Terex-Fuchs wheeled material handler from Blue Fuchs, the third to join the fleet. The MHL340D FQC is the first in the UK to be supplied by Blue Fuchs with the optional Fuchs Quick Connect system. The three letters, FQC, show that various work tools can be swiftly and speedily changed. For example, the multi-purpose stick with grab or the stick with magnet can be exchanged for a scrap shear in less than a minute. The Quick Connect system is based on leakage-free quick-connect couplings which, with the help of a hydraulic locking device, can be connected to each other with no loss of oil and

almost without wear. All connections are protected against shocks and contamination with sensors verifying correct positioning and secure locking when connecting and disconnecting the attachments. The Fuchs Quick Connect system maximises efficiency, enabling a single machine to carry out a whole range of tasks with very short changeover times. It also adds considerably to safety. The operator no longer needs to leave the cab to change the tools, and fiddling with bolts is a thing of the past. Commenting on the FQC system, Director Tom Clay said, “The new Fuchs machine has been a fantastic investment. With the two attachments processing the metal is now much easier and faster. The versatility of the machine has no limits we are able to process anything that comes through our gates. With the FQC system the driver is able to swap attachments easily throughout the day” The base machine is equipped with a 5.2m boom coupled to a short stick incorporating the FQC. Capable of handling either a 5.4m stick or a 5.6m

multi-purpose stick effectively gives the MHL340D a reach of up to 11.2m. Powered by a fuel efficient Deutz, six cylinder, turbo-charged, Tier3 compliant engine developing 171hp, the MHL340D is equipped with four point outriggers ensuring superior stability even at full capacity. The operator is well catered for with the hydraulically raising cabin benefitting from air conditioning along with multi-adjustable air suspended seat and fatigue free joysticks. Offering a maximum working height of 5.4m the sound deadened and heat insulated panoramic windows give optimum visibility across the working envelope. Excellent operating performance and service from their two other TerexFuchs machines made the purchasing decision easier for Directors Tom and Will Clay. “Both of our current machines have done exactly what we expected from them. Blue have also provided excellent service throughout the buying and commissioning process.” explained Tom Clay. www.maxileadmetals.co.uk

Thorncliffe Skips Thorncliffe Building Supplies was established in 1990 by Tim Harper at the now head office site at Allt-y-Graig, Dyseth. Due to both rapid growth in the business and an eagerness to provide a ‘one stop shop’ to its expanding customer base; Thorncliffe Skip Hire was born. With the main Recycling Centre in Abergele and another centre in Ewloe, near Mold, Thorncliffe Skip Hire are well equipped to cover the vast catchment region surrounding these premises, including The Wirral, Wrexham and Chester and the whole North Wales coast. The main recycling activities of the company take place at the Abergele site. Aggregate is crushed and screened, Green Waste and Wood are Shredded and Sorted. C&I, C&D and MSW Waste Streams are brought to the site daily and heavy investment has subsequently occurred over the years. In late 2012 Thorncliffe turned to Blue Central for a solution to clean up their Trommel Fines from their existing plant. A stationary ‘Flip-Flow’ Screen, together with an Air Drum Separator was installed to meet this requirement. This plant removes ferrous material by way of a Magnet, -10mm inert material via the Screen and the Air Drum Separator separates heavy hard-core from light RDF product.

In mid-2013 Thorncliffe again turned to Blue Central for a solution to process residual waste from their existing plant with the idea of salvaging more products from this material and creating an RDF product with the remainder. Blue Central supplied a Doppstadt DW3060 Slow Speed Shredder which feeds into a Static 620 Trommel; the fines from which are fed directly into the existing ‘Flip Flow’ and the oversize into a Nihot SDS1200 Single Drum Separator. The SDS1200 separates light material from the heavies. The light material goes under an Overband Magnet to remove ferrous and then through an Eddy Current Separator to remove the non-ferrous, before it is fed directly into a channel baler. The heavy product goes over a Manual Quality Pick before an Overband Magnet and clean hard-core is the result.

“We are delighted with the plant thus far and look forward to a continued successful relationship with Blue Central,” commented Tim Harper, Thorncliffe MD.

HFF invest in Metrotrak West Sleekburn based aggregate recycling specialists HFF have recently invested in a Powerscreen Metrotrak jaw crusher from Blue Scotland. Since inception 15 years ago, owner Steve Charlton has built up the company to its current level. From their original yard in Ashington, HFF have since moved to the current premises, occupying a 3 acre site which enables them to provide a range of recycling and groundwork services throughout Newcastle and the surrounding areas. On the growth of HFF and their requirement for a mobile jaw crusher, Steve commented “Initially we were hiring a crusher in every 6 months, however the demand has grown exponentially in recent times to the stage where we were needing our own to cope with the volume of material.” The Powerscreen Metrotrak is a compact, high performance track

mobile jaw crushing plant featuring the “M” series single toggle jaw crusher. With an aggressive crushing action and a high output even at tight settings, the Metrotrak is ideally suited for small to medium sized operators in the mining, quarrying and recycling industries. The Metrotrak HA purchased by HFF builds on the features of the Metrotrak by including hydraulic adjustment which offers users the benefit of quickly and easily changing the size of finished product. This versatility and high throughput made the Metrotrak HA the ideal machine for a company such as HFF who provide a wide range of recycled aggregate products

knowledge of the sales team at Blue and their overall professional approach. This was a big investment for HFF and it was important for me to have confidence in the back up over the life cycle of the crusher. Everyone I spoke to advised that Blue’s service support was the best in the business and I have to say its been 2nd to none.”

On the performance of the new machine, Mr Charlton added “The crusher has been a great asset, it has never stopped since we bought it.” On the decision to purchase a Powerscreen over a number of other manufacturers machines, Steve enthused “I was really impressed by the

Dunmow Waste Management Ltd impressed by new Doppstadt 3060K Dunmow Waste Management is a family-owned business established in 1987, when all it consisted of was a single lorry and a handful of skips. 25 years on, the company has evolved into a dynamic Waste Management company, specialising in offering different waste management solutions to an extensive range of customers.

12

After looking at various shredders on the market, Sam Malins, Dunmow Waste Management’s Managing Director, chose the Doppstadt DW 3060K. There were many factors for this decision: “We chose this particular slow speed shredder as all the wear parts are completely replaceable and we like the simplicity of the design. We also took into account the engine and drive train, access for cleaning and overall build quality. It’s nice and quiet too.” Being new to owning Doppstadt equipment and having seen many machines working in the industry, they are impressed with their new purchase. The Doppstadt DW 3060 is a high volume, slow speed shredder. Available in both wheeled and tracked version for maximum versatility, the DW 3060 is designed on the single-shaft principle. For machinery protection and quick application changes, the DW shredder is fitted with a hydraulically controlled shredding comb. Thanks to various, quickly replaceable tools, the DW

3060 can be adjusted to the different shredding tasks. The efficient mechanic power transmission is carried out by a direct drive with planetary gear. The noise level and the fuel consumption of the electronically controlled MercedesBenz motor are very low. Currently, Dunmow Waste are using their 3060 kette on an early shift, shredding wood and then straight onto a late shift shredding waste. “We are happy to be getting 25-30 tonne per hour on wood and 20-25 tonne per hour on waste”. Dunmow decided on the tracked version “for easy manoeuvrability around the yard, a sturdier machine”. Sam Malins also commented on his relationship with Blue, “We have great communication with Aaron in sales. We were impressed by the quick installation of the 3060 kette as well as receiving good training. Darren in the Service Department is a pleasure to deal with”. www.dunmowwaste.com

New equipment has never been so affordable!

Want to maximise your tax saving potential? There has never been a better time than NOW for Blue customers to buy a new machine. Normally just 18% of a business’s capital expenditure can be offset as Annual Investment Allowance (AIA) against profit each year but only on a reducing balance basis thereafter. That means it can take up to 12 years to redeem 90% of the original capital cost in tax savings. Since the 1st January 2013 however, and until 31st December 2014, businesses can offset the full amount of up to £250,000 for each full year of trading while this legislation is valid. Remember, this also applies to equipment bought on Lease Purchase & Hire Purchase too, even if the payment plan continues into 2015 and beyond.

Ordering at the right time is very important to ensure that deliveries arrive in time to optimise your maximum tax savings potential. Contact us now for more information:
