Welcome from Blue We are delighted to take this opportunity to introduce Blue to you by including our latest Blue Mail newsletter in the RWM show guide and MRW magazines which will be circulated to over 19000 people in the Waste sector.
The objective of our Blue Mail is to give our customers and readers a quarterly overview of the Blue Group in its developments, products and overall update on the current market we find ourselves in. We are all well aware of the current uncertain economic climate and as a result we are all looking at ways to change and adapt as markets evolve and opportunities become more challenging. We have witnessed a significant slowdown in construction which has had a knock on effect on the demand for Crushing and Screening Equipment, and within Recycling, we have all experienced the uncertainty caused by HMRC’s change in “Trommel Fines” legislation. Like the whole of the UK recycling sector, the Blue Group believes that clarity cannot come quickly enough as we have identified a range of solutions which will enable operators to get back to running their businesses in a profitable and efficient manner. Like many of you we have also faced head on the need to manage overheads by reducing costs and working to achieve greater efficiencies within Blue Group, all the while ensuring our high levels of technical and aftermarket support and sales are kept to our exacting standards. Regarding RWM, we feel this trade show has become a fantastic event, invaluable for our business, and we
look forward to welcoming all visitors to our usual stand at OA 160. For the first time, we are delighted to be exhibiting the Terex Fuchs range of handling products, having secured the exclusive distribution rights to this product in January this year. This is yet another strong brand leader in the Blue portfolio, with the Terex Fuchs product already well respected and accepted in the UK and Ireland’s Scrap, Waste, Ports and Wood Handling industries. At RWM we will also be showcasing the long established brands in Doppstadt Shredding and Screening equipment, Kiverco Recycling Systems, Marathon Balers and Cesaro Tiger food waste technology. Blue is continuing to secure new distribution opportunities from well established world leading manufacturers and our total focus is to continue to support you, our customer with new products to increase the efficiency and profitability of all our businesses. At Blue we always welcome the views of our customers as part of our ongoing strategy to continue to grow and develop, so please feel free to call us or email any suggestions to sales@bluegroup.co.uk as we continue to strive to offer the very best solutions to the marketplace. Finally to all our customers past and present we take this opportunity to formally thank you for your business and we look forward to your continuing support into the future. Your sincerely, Blue Group Directors

Powerscreen launch two fantastic new products World leading mobile crushing and screening manufacturer Powerscreen, have recently launched two new products to their range, the Warrior 1400X screener and the XA 400s Pre Screen jaw crusher. Powerscreen Warrior 1400X The 1400X has been designed with economy in mind, with reduced engine running speed and enhanced hydraulics, the 1400X offers a reduction in fuel consumption of up to 15% in comparison to its predecessor. This can translate into a substantial financial saving for customers over the lifetime of the machine. Improved versatility and design specifications are other key achievements of the Warrior 1400X, with the screening angle range widening of 13°-19°. Standard stockpiling capacity on all conveyors has increased by up to 25%. With the chassis riser option and the telescopic side conveyor option, the fines and mid-grade stockpiling capacity is increased to more than double that of a standard Warrior 1400.
Time required for set-up and shutdown is faster than the previous model, which will be of particular benefit to contractors. Serviceability features include a class leading screen box raise function and the unique ability to raise the collection conveyor. Optimal chute design in conjunction with the new feeder under-tray slideout feature will minimise any potential spillage and reduce any harmful material build-up around the machine. The Warrior 1400X now boasts improved mobility with a two speed tracking system as standard. The high speed mode is further enhanced with automatic engine speed ramp-up making the 1400X the fastest tracked machine in its range. Damian Power, Powerscreen Global Product Director said: “The new Powerscreen® Warrior 1400X offers improved performance, lower operating costs, and easier serviceability while building on the reliable foundation of our class-leading Warrior 1400 scalper.”
Powerscreen XA400s Pre Screen The Powerscreen® X400S jaw crusher has been developed to incorporate a fully independent high amplitude, hydraulically driven pre-screen with increased drop angle on the bottom deck improving machine throughput and overall capacity. In order to facilitate improved pre-screened material flow, the discharge opening from the under chute has been increased from 200mm to 320mm, allowing faster movement of prescreened material to bypass the crushing chamber. Other benefits of the X400S pre-screen model are optional improved hopper capacity, quicker set-up time, more efficient transfer of screened material to the improved design side conveyor with increased width from 600mm to 650mm which creates increased tonnage and stockpile capacity. Blue Fuchs supplies new 350E to Van Dalen Recycling Looking to expand and modernise their material handling fleet, international recycling contractor Van Dalen have recently invested in a trio of new material handlers from Blue Fuchs to work in their UK operations. Working from six facilities in the UK Van Dalen have been using a variety of material handling equipment throughout their operations in both the UK and Europe but recent investments in Terex Fuchs handlers in Europe has led to three new MHL350E material handlers being added to their UK fleet. Situated in their Chatham, Dagenham and Sheffield processing centres the MHL350Es are the latest generation of the Terex Fuchs line up and are equipped with the latest Blue Evolution, emission compliant Tier4 engines. The 6 cylinder Deutz engine delivers a healthy 160Kw yet is very fuel efficient, a fact that was not lost in Van Dalen’s purchasing decision.
06
An intelligent engine management system and a high-performance cooling system protect against overloading and deliver real benefits in efficiency.
“We looked at two other manufacturers before we placed the order for the Fuchs machines.” explained Sheffield Operations Manager Ben May. “Whilst costs for the base machines where similar, the fact that the Fuchs machine could potentially offer significant cost savings over its rivals made the whole life cost for the package more enticing. Although it is early days we are very pleased with the fuel economy of the new machines.” confirms Mr May.
Van Dalen’s Sheffield operation takes in approximately 16,000 tonnes of metals per month with materials processed through a state-of-the-art shredder or cut into manageable lengths in a large capacity shear. Ensuring the incoming material is sorted and loaded into the various systems the company counts on the reliability of their material handlers. The experience of the Terex Fuchs machines in their continental operations has given the UK operation the confidence to alter their purchasing habit and take the three, 37.5 tonne handlers into their fleet.
Fitted with an 8.5m boom and 7.2m dipper stick the MHL350E carries a 1m3 cactus grab and is used primarily for feeding the shear with imported materials. The imposing shear is situated some way off the ground and the excellent reach and capacity afforded by the Fuchs means that the operator is able to work a wide area around the machine without compromising on loading capacity. Loading the shear is only part of the Fuchs duties. Trimmed materials exit the shear and are then loaded into bulk arctic tippers to be transported to local steelworks or for export and the loading of the materials is another task which the Fuchs is expected to undertake. The MHL350E is fitted with a hydraulically elevating cabin which improves the operators vision into the truck bodies.
“The operator loves the new cab” explains Mr May. “The controls are well laid out and very intuitive. With the raised cabin the operator can see into the tipper bodies making sure all voids are filled and the trucks leave the site with the maximum of payload on board.”
With their new purchases being in operation only a few weeks the management at Van Dalen’s Sheffield operation are already seeing the benefits of the MHL350E with improved operator comfort, improved fuel economy and increased productivity.
Stability of the machines is of major importance when loading both the shear and bulkers and the excellent, wide platform afforded by the MHL350E with its independent fourpoint stabilisers means that the machine stands firm even at full reach with a full grab. Hydrostatic four-wheeldrive means that even if conditions underfoot are not ideal, machine relocation should not be hindered.

Refood Open Day showcases Cesaro Tiger Blue Group are delighted to have supported the recent ReFood Open Day event which was a resounding success. Blue Group are delighted to have supported the recent ReFood Open Day event which was a resounding success. With over 400 people attending the Doncaster based facilities over 2 days, the interest and awareness in food waste recycling in the UK is at an all time high, with huge interest in this growth area. ReFood are the European market leader in the field of disposal of organic waste from kitchens, canteens and retailers. From every stage in the food chain, ReFood recycles food waste via AD turning it into green electricity, heat and nutrient-rich fertiliser. With almost 20 million tonnes of food waste generated each year across the UK, it’s crucial that we find more sustainable alternatives to landfill.
The Open Day enabled visitors to take a full factory visit, showcasing the state of the art facilities and highly efficient operation. Blue Group’s front end food waste depackaging system, the Cesaro Tiger, plays a pivotal role in the overall setup, by efficiently removing the organic fraction from the food waste, leaving packaging for further recycling. The Organic fraction is then pumped into a full AD system to produce the recycled product. The Cesaro Tiger is specifically designed for the effective separation and processing of organic waste from selective collection or expired packaged foodstuff, and forms an integral part of an anaerobic digestion, composting or organic waste treatment plant. The process separates plastic and processed packaging, with the wet or dry systems producing the organic fraction for secondary processing.
Commenting on the Open Day, Blue Director Sean McGeary said “We are delighted to have supported ReFood with this fantastic event. ReFood are a long standing customer of Blue Group and we are thrilled the Cesaro Tiger is playing such a key role in the plants success.” On the Tiger depackaging system, Sean added “The Cesaro Tiger is an exciting product for the Group as the interest in the technology is phenomenal at the moment. We have had excellent success to date and we look forward to improving the efficiency of other AD systems in the future.” For more information on our Food Waste Depackaging systems, please call 0845 217 8755.
