Hanlons expand their fleet with even more Fuchs machines The Blue Group are pleased to announce their largest order for Terex-Fuchs material handlers since taking over the UK dealership at the beginning of 2012. Material handling specialists, John Hanlon Ltd, have purchased a large number of machines including Fuchs MHL320 and MHL331’s to replace existing units and grow their existing fleet. Operating a fleet of almost 200 items of equipment from their Bedfordshire base, the Fuchs machines will be utilised on rehandling contracts throughout the UK and have been purchased because of their exceptional performance and general acceptance both with hirers and their operators. “The Fuchs machines are seen as a reliable and economic handler at all levels.” explains company director Matthew Hanlon. “We operate our whole fleet on a self-drive basis and our clients expect a well known and productive machine to fulfil their needs. Operator acceptance is also a major feature as feedback from drivers may mean a machine stays on hire for a longer period.”

02

Both models purchased sit at the entry level end of Fuchs’ range of material handlers that extends up to 68 tonnes in weight with a reach of over 23m. Hanlon have taken the 19 tonne MHL320D and 22 tonne MHL331D with a variety of front end equipment depending on the type of contracts they will be serving. The Fuchs multi-purpose equipment is ideally suited to working with selector grabs and makes the machine a versatile performer for many tasks in the material handling sector. The MHL320D is available with reaches of up to 14.5m with an industrial stick and 9.2m with the multi-purpose set up whilst the MHL331D offers reaches of 12m and 10.7m respectively. Power to both machines come from very fuel efficient Deutz turbo diesel engines with the MHL320D’s 4 litre version developing 114hp and the 6 litre unit in the MHL331D developing 153hp. Both machine are equipped with hydraulically raising cabs giving the operators an excellent view over the working area. Four point stabilisers on both models make the machines very stable and a major

benefit to the Fuchs range is the centrally mounted slew ring which ensures the machine is able to work at full capacity at any radius. The new purchases will be kept on the Hanlon fleet for ten thousand hours before being replaced, during this time they will be expected to perform faultlessly. “Reliability is a major issue for us and our customers.” explains Mr Hanlon “Our clients require the machines to be working when they need them. With the back-up and service we have experienced from Blue we can confidently say that problems should be very few and far between.” When the time comes to move the machines on the residual value is another benefit of purchasing a Fuchs machine. Mr Hanlon said “Although the economic climate makes it challenging to sell used equipment, a well maintained Fuchs machine in good condition makes the task a little easier.”

Leading wood recyclers AW Jenkinson Woodwaste Limited have recently added to their extensive fleet of Doppstadt equipment with the purchase of the new NZ 180E static high speed shredder from Blue Scotland.

The new shredder has been installed at the company’s headquarters in Bo’ness near Grangemouth. AW Jenkinson Woodwaste also operate additional satellite facilities in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Kinore and Hespin Wood near Carlisle. Specialising in wood and organic recycling, the company have grown exponentially in recent years with the capacity to reprocess upwards of 5000 tonnes per week. The recycled material is then screened down to specific sized products for the various markets including the panel board industry, animal bedding and the growing Biomass energy facilities throughout the UK. The new Doppstadt NZ 180E is the first of its kind in the UK and is proving to be a huge success since its installation in September this year. Based on the world renowned Doppstadt AK range of mobile high speed

shredders, the NZ is a fully static secondary shredder for the final grinding of materials to exacting specifications. The shredder works using the free swinging flail principle combined with the grinding basket. The efficient mechanic power transmission is carried out by V-belt drive of the flail drum and hydraulic drive of the additional components. The NZ 180E is extremely flexible with the replaceable basket being easily and quickly changed to alter the size of the material depending on the operation and material. The electric powered NZ 180E is an extremely compact machine which is capable of up to 25tph production depending on configuration and material. This high production, small footprint and exceptionally low running costs make the NZ 180 a fantastic choice for clients looking to move towards a static or electrically powered process.

Commenting on the recent installation, managing director Jim Butler said “As a long standing Doppstadt customer with a large number of mobile high and slow speed shredders as well as a number of trommels, we have high confidence in the manufacturer and the performance of their product. With space constraints a key consideration prior to our latest purchase, the new NZ 180 static high speed was the perfect choice due to its compact footprint and high throughput capabilities of upto 25 tph.” Of the installation, Jim went on to say “The team at Blue Scotland have done a fantastic job with the install and the shredder is doing a fantastic job for us.”

P&L Barton Ltd purchase two Powerscreen mobile crushers P & L Barton Ltd, the civil engineering, plant hire and road haulage group based in Carnforth, North Lancashire, has invested in two new Powerscreen mobile crushing plants sourced from appointed distributor Blue Machinery Central. The XA 400S and 1000 Maxtrak crushers join a modern and versatile fleet of excavators and hydraulic attachments, bulldozers, tipper trucks, screening and crushing plants and other equipment owned and operated by this well-established family run business. P & L Barton Ltd was formed over 40 years ago, specialising in sea defence, demolition and site clearance, contract muck-shifting, aggregate production, sand, soil and aggregate supply, operating from Scotland to north Wales and throughout north-west England. Peter and Lillian Barton are the directors, with the second generation (Richard and Marie) already involved in running and managing the company. Recently, the company found the need to expand their crushing & screening capabilities to meet increasing demand. The decision to purchase Powerscreen equipment was largely due to the fact they had been running a Terex Pegson Metrotrak for a number of years and had

06

been impressed with its reliability, running costs and throughput. This, combined with a well-established relationship with distributors Blue Machinery Central and having prior experience of their excellent after-sales product support, made the decision to purchase the Powerscreen 1000 Maxtrak and XA400S crushers all the more easy. As Richard Barton says “We’ve built up a good relationship with Blue over the years and that’s worth a lot when making these decisions - and we are only an hour away from their Warrington headquarters if we need spare parts at short notice”.

The Powerscreen XA400S mobile crushing plant is designed and built for primary crushing and is ideal for both recycling and quarrying applications, featuring a highly aggressive crushing action with hydraulic crusher setting adjustment and an optimum output of 450 tonnes per hour. The high-swing jaw eases material entry into the crushing chamber and the hydraulic adjustment has been developed to enable crusher setting changes to be made quickly and easily over a wide range. The adjustment is activated without the need to release the draw-back mechanism and this system is particularly suitable for applications where regular jaw setting adjustments are required.

Specifically developed for larger end users, the Powerscreen 1000 Maxtrak cone crusher can accept an ‘all in’ feed, thereby eliminating the need for pre-screening which would reduce the cubicity of the finished product. The feed hopper is equipped with a level probe which maintains choke feeding of the cone crusher, improving cubical shape and increasing fines production for ‘road-base’ applications. The taper roller bearing design, with hydraulic setting, tramp release and unblocking system, ensures excellent productivity and ease of operation and the metal detection system with integral contaminated material removal reduces the chance of

tramp metal from entering the crushing chamber. Dust suppression sprays are included as standard to reduce environmental emissions. Adjustment can be made ‘on the run’ using touch button controls with direct read-out of closed side setting. The new acquisitions are hard at work in an Aggregate Industries quarry in Cumbria, where P & L Barton has been tasked with producing the quarry’s total material production. This involves loading and hauling the blasted material from the face to the processing area where the XA400S is crushing up to 3000 tonnes a day. When making MOT Type

1 and aggregates the XA400S is used to feed the 1000 Maxtrak which, in turn, feeds onto a triple deck screener to produce the clean, separated aggregates stockpiles. P & L Barton reports that the XA400S is proving to be a very capable machine to deal with the high demand for material, and the low fuel consumption is impressive considering the size of machine, says the company. Aggregates being produced include: 40/20mm, 20/10mm, 10-5mm, 5mm Dust, MOT, 6F5.

Haulaway open day success Leading waste management company Haulaway Ltd, based in Hailsham recently held a Charity Open Day to coincide with the opening of their new lights MRF system supplied by Blue London. The day was a resounding success with a large number of customers, suppliers and locals visiting the plant and getting involved in the day’s fundraising. On the back of the event, Haulaway are delighted to announce that they smashed their target of £2,000 by raising an incredible £3,715 which is to be shared equally between MacMillan Cancer Support and Children in Need. The new Kiverco plant is specifically designed for their light waste and compliments the existing Kiverco heavies plant which is within the same covered building. The new plant runs at a 90 degree angle to make maximum use of the space, with the feeder complete with a material levelling drum running up and over the entrance to the hall, then turning along the back wall where there is a 10 bay twin sided picking belt for the removal of recycleable materials. The roller ensures a consistent feed for the operatives ease of picking and the spacious walkways allow for a comfortable working environment. Additionally a series of interlocking gates

08

throughout the processing areas and a pull cord emergency stop system ensure maximum safety of this plant. For specialist materials such as glass bottles or copper, the plant is also fitted with a series of dropboxes, again adding to the cleanliness and safety of the working environment. This unique system showcases the design capabilities of Blue Group, to give the customer the recycling capabilities they require within a restricted existing building. Commenting on the event Colin Holloway said, “I would like to thank Blue Group and the other companies who helped support our event, it was a resounding success and we are delighted to be able to support these two fantastic charities”. On the new MRF Colin added, “Following the success of our heavies plant, we looked no further than Blue when it came to adding a new MRF for our lighter material. The new plant is performing exceptionally well and our operators are delighted with their new working environment.”

Blue London, Operations Director Paul donnelly said, ” This really is a unique plant and showcases our design capabilities. We managed to utilise the entrance wall to enable Haulaways to operate as normal, by incorporating a feeder and a series of conveyors up and over the doorway. “ The plant then turns at 90 degrees with a huge bespoke picking line which is very much focussed on operatives well being and safety. I’d like to congratulate Matt Scott and the team at Haulaway who worked closely on the design of the plant. It truly is a case of maximum space utilisation”

South Wales Wood Recyclers take another Doppstadt Bridgend based family run South Wales Wood Recycling was established in 2003 and has grown from strength to strength since its inception.

From humble beginnings, SWWR now handles up to 5000 tonnes of waste wood per month. As wood processing specialist, the company handles all types of recycled wood from clients such as civic amenity sites, construction & demolition and pallets. Where possible the pallets are recovered, repaired and resold. The remaining timber is shredded and screened to final products to supply chipboard factories, animal bedding and carbon neutral power stations The Doppstadt AK 435 wood shredder is capable of a high throughput rate and is fitted with a patented loadsensing material feed. Thanks to the heavy gyrating mass, the flail drum with 1000 rpm and the free-swinging flail holders with replaceable flail tips, this high speed shredder provides unrivalled performance. The quickly replaceable grinding system is unique thus meaning the final product can be changed in less than 15 minutes

Like many Wood Recyclers throughout the UK, SWWR are massive Doppstadt fans and when it come to purchasing a new high speed shredder looked no further than the Doppstadt AK 435k from Blue Southern. As the company already run a number of Doppstadt slow & high speed shredders and trommel screens, company director Dennis Burke commented on the purchase “With the Doppstadt name you know what you are getting, a truly robust workhorse that offers unrivalled reliability.” On suppliers Blue Group he added “ Brian McNabb and I have a good long standing relationship and the real strength of Blue in my opinion is their after sales support. Not only do they provide the best equipment but most importantly they know how to back it up.”
