Blue Fuchs awarded prestigious TEREX Triple Crown Status Blue Machinery (Fuchs) Ltd is proud to announce that it has recently been awarded ‘TEREX Three Crown Dealer Status®’ in recognition of the business’ all round performance in a very successful first year as the exclusive TEREX Fuchs distributor for the UK and Ireland. Awarded only to selected high performing dealerships worldwide, Three Crown Status®, recognises not only outstanding sales performances on behalf of TEREX, but also more importantly the dealership’s ability to properly serve and back-up the ever growing customer base with a first class aftersales and parts service via an experienced and fully factory trained team of service and parts engineers. Commenting on the achievement of this award, Terry Hughes, Managing Director of Blue Machinery (Fuchs) Ltd said, “To be awarded Three Crown Status after just twelve months trading as the TEREX Fuchs distributor represents a significant milestone at a very early stage in the development of our business and one of which we are justifiably very proud. It’s fantastic that all the hard work and best efforts of the entire team at Blue Fuchs last year has been formally recognised by the manufacturer but it’s fair to say that the support TEREX Fuchs offered us in our early months has also helped us enormously so it would be wrong not to thank them also at this stage. We are also, of course, very grateful

to all the owners and operators of TEREX Fuchs Material Handlers in the UK and Ireland who have seen fit to put their trust and faith in us since we took on the dealership. Without their support this would not have been possible and we’re delighted to be able to move into the second half of 2013 and beyond, supporting them as an accredited Three Crown Dealer.” The last twelve months have proved to be a very busy and interesting period for Blue Machinery (Fuchs) Ltd in the UK & Ireland with record numbers of the TEREX Fuchs product being sold into the marketplace and significant milestones along the way, such as the sale of the first in the latest generation of Tier IV Engine Material Handlers, the MHL350E, and large scale investments in site development, staff recruitment and business infrastructure. Blue Fuchs is part of the industry leading Blue Group, equipment suppliers to the material handling, material processing, waste processing, scrap handling and aggregate processing sectors in the UK & Ireland. Representing world leading brands such as Powerscreen and Doppstadt, The Blue Group now supplies almost £2 million of new equipment per week into these industry sectors, employs in excess of 100 people nationwide and gained entry into the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 List earlier this year.

Perfect Partner Tarmac West’s pioneering Contractor Safety Partnership encourages contractors to work more closely together to reduce workplace injuries and the incidence of ill health, as part of the drive towards Zero Harm. For specialist crushing and screening contractor Crush Ltd, joining the Tarmac Contractor Safety Partnership was a key decision that Jon Lewis, Managing Director, has not looked back ever since. “Being on the programme has given us a fresh incentive to health and safety” he explained. “Prior to the partnership, our safety management procedures were simply based on being reactive to an incident rather than the proactive monitoring methods on site, which the Contractor Safety Partnership encourages and promotes rigorously. Working with Tarmac and the other regular contractors, however, has helped us gain a better understanding of the current safety issues and identify the required training and audits to improve our overall health and safety performance.” Ben Sherratt, Operations Director with Crush, also echoes the message that collaborative working is the way forward.

04

“Through partnering, the health and safety process can be made to work for the benefit of all” he added. “At the end of the day, we all have a common goal of delivering Zero Harm in the workplace. The trust developed, combined with wealth of knowledge and experience, will significantly help us reduce near hit incidents and contractor injuries in quarries.” Since joining the Tarmac Contractor Safety Partnership, Crush have been particularly impressed with the safety improvement tools available. These ‘toolkit’ measures include: task audits; skill assessments; safety audits, risk assessments; key performance indicators (KPIs); and alert reports (e.g. employee logbook), where the objective is to obtain performance feedback, allowing corrective action to be taken prior to any failure in the management system.

Crush’s strong commitment to training and staff development has also given the business a real competitive edge over it’s rivals. “Employees on site will respond to a strong safety culture. This unique Tarmac/contractor partnership has set a prime example of creating a transparent, interdependent culture where the emphasis is placed on teamwork rather than individuals” said Mr Lewis. “Being on Tarmac’s safety partnership scheme has really highlighted the growing need to have a highly skilled and competent workforce in place” explained Mr Sherratt. “With health and safety improvements high on the company agenda, we have invested heavily in training, mentoring and continued professional development of our staff. But more importantly, our long-term commitment to training and raising employees’ skill levels means that we can achieve the necessary competence and safety management and performance required on site.” Crush’s strong commitment to training and staff development has also given the business a real competitive edge over it’s rivals. Along with this H&S objective, there is also an increasing focus for firms to operate in a more eco-friendly manner. This has been brought on largely by key legislation, such as EU Stage IIIB and Tier 4 Interim emissions standards, to ensure processing equipment and materials meet the constantly changing environmental requirements.

“We currently employ a modern fleet of 32 machines, mainly Powerscreen equipment, including jaws, cones, impactors and various screens” said Mr Sherratt. ‘With a strong environmental agenda, we choose new mobile products carefully to ensure the company’s fleet helps reduce our customers’ carbon footprint while delivering efficiency savings in both fuel consumption and operational costs.” Mr Lewis added: “All our mobile plant is supplied by Blue Machinery and we’ve recently added another Powerscreen 1000 Maxtrak cone crusher to strengthen our crushing and screening capabilities. As more quarry firms recognize the environmental benefits and substantial cost savings gained from sustainable production, it is important that we have the right machines and fully trained plant operators to ensure operations are being run as efficiently and cost effectively as possible.” Clearly the bar is being raised and contractors now need to take a fresh approach similar to that of Crush. The focus now is very much improved H&S procedures and ever increasingly towards an eco friendly production.

This need has now created a growing trend among aggregate producers and equipment manufacturers such as Powerscreen, to be forward-thinking and innovative in their approach to sustainability and environmental care. As specialist contractors, Crush work very closely with customers to help develop sustainable solutions that can help them meet their green agendas and improve their environmental performance.

Tayside Contracts go for versatile Powerscreen XH320X20 Long standing Blue Scotland customer Tayside Contracts is the commercial trading arm of Angus, Dundee City and Perth & Kinross Councils who provide a range of services throughout the area. With over 2500 employees, Tayside Contracts look after a range of facilities from catering and cleaning to roads and recycling. The services provided by Tayside Contracts are for both private and public sector clients. The new Powerscreen XH320X has been purchased for the Construction facet of the business for use in their quarry at Collace and throughout their various recycling sites to crush both virgin and recycled aggregates. This versatility was hugely important for Tayside Contracts, to enable the crusher to process different materials on their different sites. From crushing basalt in the quarry to road planings and C&D waste at the various recycling centres throughout the region. These products are then used within their own civil works and sold to the private sector. The XH320X crusher has been developed to incorporate a fully independent hydraulically driven pre-screen, removing the fines and reducing chamber wear costs as a result. The fines are predetermined by the mesh size in the pre-screen with the fines stockpiled by the hydraulically folding extended side conveyor with a stockpile height of 3.7 metres. The new XH320X is fitted with a new eco friendly Tier4 Scania DC9 83A 257kW(350hp) engine which future proofs the investment for upcoming legislations regarding fuel emissions. The Powerscreen impact crusher is ideally suited to reducing medium-hard, mildly abrasive materials down to a cubical, well graded product size in a single pass. The Hydraulic Apron Adjustment system allows quick adjustments to be made to determine the output material, enabling the production of a variety of high quality cubically shaped finished products to be made at the touch of a button. The additional optional grinding path, for further reduction, allows the XH320X to produce even smaller consistent product gradation when

06

required. The hopper capacity has also been increased by the addition of hopper extensions which can also be hydraulically folded for transport. The new hopper design incorporates hydraulic locking pins for rapid setup time and removes the need for manual wedges. The XH320X crusher has a full length product conveyor which is fitted with an overband magnet for ferrous removal. Greg Campopiano, Recycling Manager at Tayside Contracts commented, “After in depth analysis of all like for like machines on the market and a couple of demonstrations, we are delighted that we ultimately decided to go with the Powerscreen XH320X. We have been blown away with the throughput of this new machine and the incredible fuel consumption that we are witnessing.” Greg went on to add, “From experience, the beauty of working with Blue is that you not only get a fantastic product at the outset, but they really know how to look after the machine long after the initial sale. The spares backup and service department are unrivalled in our industry, and this first class service gives you the confidence needed for the longevity of your investment.”

Tudor Griffiths Clean Up with Blue Central Blue Central has recently installed both a new Powerscreen Warrior 1400 and Mobile Picking Station to Tudor Griffiths Group for the clean up of its construction and demolition waste. Tudor Griffiths Group is a family owned and managed organisation based in Ellesmere, Shropshire. From its inception in 1874, Tudor Griffiths has grown exponentially by placing a huge emphasis on establishing long-lasting relationships with its customers through exceeding expectations and securing trust through exceptional performance from every member of its team. Over the years, Tudor Griffiths has strived consistently to improve the quality of the products and services provided through innovation, foresight and constant hard work. As a multifaceted business which specialises in aggregate processing, sand & gravel, waste management, skip hire and wood processing to name a few, Tudor Griffiths set exemplary standards when it comes to recycling efficiency.

The Powerscreen Warrior 1400 is an ideal plant for recycling applications – especially screening and separating commingled C&D waste and oversize materials. Primarily purchased for the clean-up of C&D material, the new Powerscreen Warrior 1400 and Mobile Picking Station (MPS) needed to provide a robust and versatile setup which could withstand the demanding application whilst being able to be utilised elsewhere within the business when required. The screening aspect of the plant needed to be heavy duty, durable and capable of accepting piece sizes circa 500mm without impeding the process. The Powerscreen Warrior 1400 is an ideal unit for recycling applications – especially screening and separating bulky C&D waste and oversize materials.

The Warrior 1400 is capable of screening, three-way splitting and stockpiling a wide variety of materials in the most difficult and demanding applications, including construction and demolition debris, as well as face blasted material and crushed stone, muck-away, coal, compost and topsoil. The Warrior 1400 has a highly aggressive screenbox with hydraulically adjustable screen angles. The Warrior 1400 feeds directly into the hopper of the MPS which has a blower for the light fraction to be removed prior to the manual sort station. The MPS, complete with an onboard diesel genset, can also be run via electricity and offers flexibility in that it is a semi-permanent fixture but can easily be relocated or repositioned if required further down the line. As a forward thinking organisation, Health & Safety was paramount in Tudor Griffiths’ thoughts when looking to replace the previous picking line. As a result, the new Mobile Picking Station is fully enclosed with operative safety paramount. The spacious cabin is fitted out with lighting, heaters and windows for optimal comfort, with multi-point emergency stops fitted throughout. With all recyclables recovered via the picking station, the remaining hard core passes a twin pole magnet for final ferrous removal before being stockpiled on an adjoining conveyor for further processing.

Commenting on the new system, Tony Williams, General Manager within Tudor Griffiths commented, “We are delighted with the new system installed by Blue Central as it has significantly increased our operational efficiency whilst greatly improving the working environment for our operatives. The new plant fits in with our company ethos which is to purchase the very best equipment to improve our operational efficiency whilst keeping our staff’s wellbeing at the forefront of any buying decision.”
