BLUECLAWS 2019 BlueClaws Fans, Welcome back to another exciting season of BlueClaws Baseball here at FirstEnergy Park! This promises to be another special summer for the BlueClaws, the Township of Lakewood, the Jersey Shore, the Phillies organization, and you, our great fans. My name is Art Matin, managing partner of Shore Town Baseball. As you may know, Shore Town Baseball acquired operating interest of the BlueClaws late in the 2017 season and this year is our second full season as partners. From the minute we came on board, the entire community has been overwhelming in their support, and we are just as excited today as we continue to build the BlueClaws as we were when we started this process. Our pledge remains the same - to keep the BlueClaws as the Shore’s leader in affordable, family entertainment. Last year, we opened a brand-new Mini Golf Course down the right field line, the Toyota World of Lakewood Home Run Pavilion in centerfield, a new Biergarten down the left field line, as well as upgrading the HVAC system on the Luxury Suite level. This year, we have made substantial improvements to our Picnic Areas. These improvements include enhanced seating, both in quality and view, upgraded menus, and other fan amenities. Further, the BlueClaws are thrilled to participate in Minor League Baseball’s Copa de la Diversion program this year as we bring the Medusas de Lakewood to life. We will be celebrating the best in Hispanic culture and heritage across four games this summer with special food items, live music, and more. We have additional information included in this program or at BlueClaws.com/Copa. I would like to thank our tremendous Corporate Partners, without whom we would not be able to do all we can for you, the fans. Our Corporate Partners have been incredibly supportive over the entirety of the BlueClaws and we are honored to have built such relationships. Additionally, we thank business leaders around the Shore and our municipal and state leaders including senator Robert Singer and Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles. We would also like to thank our partners with the Phillies, and wish them the best this season. Finally, we’d like to thank you, our great fans. The two decades of support you have shown the BlueClaws is something we are honored to have received and something we will continue to strive to earn moving into the future.
PLAY BALL!

new beginning FOR
MIKE MICUCCI TAKES OVER AS NEW BLUECLAWS MANAGER
Mike Micucci has been in baseball for 25 years but 2019 marked the first time he ever went to Spring Training in Florida. Now, the New Jersey native, who was raised in Bergen County's Emerson and played at Montclair State University, will take over the BlueClaws. He was named as the 13th manager in franchise history earlier in the oo-season and replaces a pair of two-year club managers in Shawn Williams and Marty Malloy who each took the BlueClaws to the South Atlantic League Championship Series. Micucci has been a coordinator the last several years, including the last three with the Mariners as their field coordinator (2016-17) and coordinator of organization instruction (2018). He hasn't managed since 2012 with the Arkansas Travelers, the Angels' Double-A aaliate and has also coached and managed in the Rangers and Cubs systems. "Over the last six or seven years being a coordinator, as you go from town to town, you miss that connection on a daily basis with the players," Micucci said, excited to get back to managing. "You just want to get back to getting your hands dirty and making players better." One of the things that attracted Micucci to the Phillies was the organization's investment in analytics, something that has grown significantly over the last several years. Micucci also worked in the Angels system while current Phillies GM Matt Klentak was the Assistant General Manager in Anaheim. "The thing I tell younger coaches when it comes to stuu like this is that these things are facts — not opinions. It used to be 'He hit that ball hard,' or 'He has movement on that pitch.' But now we have these factual things that can’t be disputed," said Micucci.
14
Further, he comes from two analytically-minded organizations in the Mariners and Angels. "Where guys play straight up has completely changed over the years. Our oo-infielder, the non-pull side middle infielder, i would play so far up the middle and it was unbelievable how many outs you get playing up the middle," he said. Micucci credits Sandy Alomar, Sr. with helping him get into coaching in the first place, going back to his playing career with the Cubs in the mid-1990s. "He was one of our roving instructors and he was talking to me one day in the dugout and it was the first time I thought about coaching. The next three or four years as a player I was trying to learn everything I could," Micucci recalled. "Infield play, outfield play, the nuances of the game, and the parts that I wasn’t really comfortable with or accustomed to, including the base-running from a stolen-base f standpoint. I was just trying to learn all those things so one day I was ready." The last two BlueClaws managers each slide up one level with Micucci's addition to the Phillies managerial roster. Williams, who managed the BlueClaws in 2015 and 2016, will manage Double-A Reading after two years in Clearwater. Malloy, who replaced Williams in Lakewood, will now follow him in Hi-A Clearwater this summer.

BlueClaws Notebook
Former BlueClaws Filled Baseball America Top Ten Prospects List Several former BlueClaws topped the Baseball America Phillies Top Ten Prospects List, released by the organization earlier in the off-season. RHP Sixto Sanchez (2017), who the Phillies would later trade to the Marlins as part of the deal that brought JT Realmuto to Philadelphia, lead the list. Other former BlueClaws on the list included RHP Adonis Medina (#4, 2017), OF Adam Haseley (#5, 2017), LHP JoJo Romero (#6, 2017), RHP Spencer Howard (#8, 2018), and LHP Ranger Suarez (#9, 2017). Additionally, the list includes SS Luis Garcia, who Baseball America ranked #3. Garcia led the Gulf Coast League in hitting last year at .369 at just 17 years of age. Said Ben Badler of Baseball America: “One of the most exciting position prospects the Phillies have signed out of Latin America in years. He’s a potentially plus defender, with the rare combination of a young shortstop who can make the acrobatic, flashy play but also has the internal clock and intelligence to slow the game down and not make many mistakes you typically see young shortstops make.”
Howard’s No-Hitter One For the Ages
While the BlueClaws championship dreams ended with a loss to Lexington in Game Four of the SAL Championship Series last year, BlueClaws fans did get to see one of the best performances in team history in the Northern Division Championship Series clincher a week earlier. The right-hander from Cal-Poly struck out nine and needed just 103 pitches and faced three more than the minimum (he walked one, hit one, and one Intimidator reached on an error). It was the second straight year BlueClaws fans got to see a no-hitter at FirstEnergy Park after left-hander Nick Fanti no-hit Charleston in July of 2017. It was also the third nine-inning no-hitter by a BlueClaw, following Fanti in 2017 and Gavin Floyd, albeit in a loss, in 2002.

Year #19
The BlueClaws enter their 19th season with an overall regular season franchise record of 1,253-1,239. In the last three seasons, the BlueClaws are a combined 234-192. They have had winning records in four of the six halves since 2016, winning three of the halves and finishing percentage points out of the playoffs in the first half of the 2017 season.
