Quincy College Empowering Veterans Enabling Success (EVES) GOAL: Increase faculty education and awareness of socio-emotional and mental health challenges of veteran students by creating and implementing a Quincy College faculty workshop and educational program including personal stories of college student veterans BACKGROUND: Veterans often experienced traumatic events, with the residual effects of combat injury creating difficulties in an academic setting. Many veterans enrolled as students are married and have responsibilities beyond obtaining an education. PROGRAM: 1)To create educational opportunities for Quincy College faculty so that they will be better prepared to address the unique needs of student veterans and their families. 2)To identify and develop resources related to social services and mental health within walking distance to the Quincy College campus to address urgent issues facing student veterans in order to supplement existing services as needed. AUDIENCE: Sixty Quincy College Faculty, plus student veterans, and their families COLLABORATORS: Quincy College faculty, student veterans, and South Shore Mental Health OUTCOMES: Sixty full time and adjunct faculty members were engagaed and attended the presentation. There is now an effort to make veteran socioemotional awareness training required by all new faculty.

The South Shore CancerCollaborative™ The South Shore CancerCollaborative is one of CHNA 20's 2015/2016 funded Community Grants. As part of the initiative, CHNA 20 collaborated with the organization for a forum entitled, Supporting Patients and Ourselves through Community Partnerships. The goal of the forum was to bring together practitioners to discuss community needs and how they can best work together and sustain collaborations in their own cities and towns. The event provided professional development and networking opportunities, along with resources and tools to support individuals and families impacted by this chronic disease. Patient navigators, nurses, social workers, community health workers, and organizations that support cancer patients and their families attended the successful event. The insightful speakers and productive breakout sessions validated both the need and appreciation of bringing community healthcare providers together to address issues and work toward solutions.
Tim Cummings, Program Director, Cancer Support Community, Massachusetts South Shore, one of three informative speakers at the forum.
