The Future of Safe and Efficient Tree Removal

In August we announced our appointment as the exclusive Green-Tec distributor across the UK. Green-Tec, the latest brand to join the Terex Materials Processing family, manufacture a range of tree care and vegetation management solutions. Their offering includes a robust range of chippers, shredders, tree handlers, mulchers and lifting equipment.

This strategic partnership represents a significant milestone in Blue Machinery’s growth into the forestry and arboriculture industry, underscoring our commitment to delivering innovative and efficient solutions. As the industry advances towards increased mechanisation, our role as the sole distributor positions us to support this transition effectively. Through our regional businesses—Blue Machinery (Central),

Blue Machinery (Southern), and Blue Machinery (Scotland)—we offer the entire line-up of Terex Green-Tec products. Meanwhile, Blue Machinery (Spares) provides genuine OEM parts across the UK, supported by expert teams operating from their Warrington and Stirling depots. With 24/7/365 availability, we ensure machines stay operational and productive.

Sean McGeary, Sales Director at Blue Machinery (Central) comments: “At Blue Machinery we have a track record of bringing specialist material handling and processing equipment to specific industry sectors in the UK and supporting it in the field. With the support of our existing supply chain and our own internal infrastructure for parts supply, breakdown and service support, Blue Machinery can become a first-choice partner for machinery supply to the sector within the UK market place”.

The TH3 tree handler, a standout of the Green-Tec range, was first introduced to the UK market at the APF show in September and captured significant attention from those in attendance.

Following on from its debut at APF, we hosted a series of VIP demo days taking place over the course of three weeks in November, at a private estate in Staffordshire. The demo days allowed customers to test out the machine in real-world conditions. Such was the success of the event, extra slots were added to cope with the demand to experience the performance and capabilities of the machine.

“It is the perfect machine for dismantling large trees on the roadside and over the top of embankments,” said one operator. “It is extremely stable and is easy to use, with a very comfortable cab providing excellent visibility. All the buttons and joy sticks are in the right place, and it’s got plenty of power. I can’t find fault with it.”

↑ The industry leading Vosch Grapple Saw

Designed for power and precision, the TH3 features a Palfinger telescopic boom with a 12.8m reach, which enables operators to tackle hard to reach branches and treetops. Its award winning raiseable and tilting cabin offers excellent visibility with the ability to tilt up to 30 degrees when working up high. It also features all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering for a reduced turning radius, which is particularly useful when working within a forest.

Due to nature of the work involved, Green-Tec offer guarding on all key pieces, such as protection on the boom, exhaust and air filters on top of the machine.

With a powerful hydraulic circuit to easily handle those tough jobs, the machine features a factory fitted, industry leading Vosch grapple saw. Manufactured from highstrength Swedish alloy steel, it makes light work of safely dismantling trees and loading wagons.

If you missed our VIP Demo Days and want to learn more about the TH3 Tree Handler, contact your local Blue Machinery sales representative today. Discover the future of safe and efficient tree removal, with its unmatched power, speed, precision, and stability.

Cost Effective Crushing

Leicestershire-based MRD Plant delivers nationwide services to the UK recycling, construction, quarrying, and mining sectors.

Just over a year ago, the company made its first investment in a second-hand ALLU screening bucket and quickly recognising the benefits of these innovative attachments. Since then, MRD Plant has expanded its fleet with three new ALLU buckets, all supplied by Blue Machinery (Central).

The company was initially drawn to the ALLU DS 3-23 screening bucket after securing several small crushing and screening contracts.

The bucket proved to be a costeffective alternative for clients, eliminating the need for a large mobile crusher on-site. Earlier this

year, MRD Plant took delivery of a brand-new ALLU DH 4-17, primarily used for processing asphalt road planings that would otherwise be sent to landfill.

MRD Plant’s Managing Director Tom Chapman has nothing but praise for the ALLU buckets which can screen, crush, pulverise, mix and separate a wide range of materials, excelling in processing wet and dirty materials. Integrated with an excavator’s or loading shovel’s hydraulic system, the buckets effectively transform equipment into mobile processing plants. Their user-friendly design ensures quick attachment and

operation, while interchangeable blades and segments allow for easy adjustment of particle size to meet specific job site requirements.

“In many cases, an ALLU screening bucket is much more efficient, productive and less expensive than transporting a mobile crushing plant to the work site. That was something we began to realise when we invested in that second hand model last year. Some of the contracts we secure are for processing just a few hundred tonnes of material over a couple of days and it would have been inefficient for us to set up a standard mobile crusher on site.

Had we have done that, we would have had to use a loading shovel in any event to feed the crusher, but the fact we can fit an ALLU screening bucket to the shovel means we are literally halving our fuel costs – and using less labour on site,” said Tom, “so we are able to pass on those cost savings to our clients which they appreciate.”

The ALLU DH 4-17, one of the largest models in the D-Series range, is being used by MRD Plant to process road planings. Its versatility, however, allows it to handle a wide variety of materials, including soils, sand, gravel, compost, demolition waste, and more. With the ability to produce different fractions, the D-Series is suited for applications ranging from construction and recycling to landscaping and agriculture.

Mounted on a 35-ton excavator, the DH 4-17 is in constant use. “It’s performing the same tasks as a topof-the-range mobile crusher but at a fraction of the cost,” Tom added. He also highlighted its simplicity: “ALLU screening buckets are easier to use and maintain compared to a standard mobile crusher. Plus, their compact setup allows us to access restricted sites that would otherwise be off-limits to separate crusher units.”

"In many cases, an ALLU screening bucket is much more efficient, productive and less expensive than transporting a mobile crushing plant to the work site."

The other three ALLU buckets in the MRD Plant crushing and screening division are fitted to loading shovels and a smaller excavator – and are easily interchangeable, to suit various applications. One of the ALLU transformer buckets has been used to break up and screen Pulverised Fuel Ash, (PFA), also known as fly ash, which can then be partly used as a cement substitute in the manufacture of concrete blocks. Extremely wet PFA would be impossible to screen using a conventional mobile screener and as such this material normally would end up going to landfill.

In a few short years, Tom Chapman has built up MRD Plant into a successful and growing contract crushing and screening operation that is able to take on projects ranging from small scale work to larger, long-term contracts.

Since starting up the company, Tom has enjoyed a very successful working relationship with both Blue Machinery and ALLU. “They have been very supportive and have put in a lot of effort to make sure we have screening buckets that work for us, especially with the DH 4-17 which we use primarily for processing asphalt. Any issues or queries have been dealt with promptly and efficiently and we look forward to building on that relationship going forward.”

A Premier Upgrade

David Horton Contractors Ltd, a family-run business established in 1993, continues to reinforce its position as one of the leading groundworks and demolition contractors in the South West.

Specialising in demolition, plant hire, asbestos removal, and groundworks, the company prides itself on delivering efficient, safe, and high-quality services across Bristol, Bath, Swindon, and beyond. Their demolition operations rely on mobile crushing equipment, which has always been a cornerstone of their projects. In 2021, David Horton Contractors made the strategic decision to upgrade their aging six-year-old Powerscreen crusher to the then-latest Powerscreen Premiertrak 330. Fast forward to today, and the company has once again chosen to invest in another brandnew Premiertrak 330, reaffirming their loyalty to Powerscreen and Blue Machinery (Southern) Ltd.

Daniel Horton, Director at David Horton Contractors, explained the decision behind the latest upgrade: “Our 2021 Premiertrak 330 served us exceptionally well, but as the business grows, we need the very best in efficiency and performance to meet increasing demand. The new PT 330 brings enhancements that align perfectly with our commitment to delivering top-tier services. It’s robust, userfriendly, and gives our operators the control and flexibility they need on-site.”

← The Premiertrak 330 set up at David Horton Contractors

The latest Powerscreen Premiertrak 330 is designed for high-performance crushing in demanding applications such as demolition, quarrying, recycling, and mining. The machine features a two-piece grizzly feeder for improved material flow, a variable crusher speed for precise operation, and a hydrostatic drive system that allows reverse operation—a key benefit for recycling and demolition applications.

The PT 330 is also known for its quick setup time and quiet operation, making it both productive and operator-friendly.

The customer’s enduring relationship with Powerscreen and Blue Machinery (Southern) played a pivotal role in their buying decision.

Daniel elaborated: “We’ve built a strong relationship with Blue Machinery over the years. Their aftercare is second to none, whether it’s spare parts or dealing with breakdowns. It’s not just about the machine itself but also the support network behind it. While we considered other options, the reliability and service from Blue tipped the scales in Powerscreen’s favour once again.”

“While we considered other options, the reliability and service from Blue tipped the scales in Powerscreen’s favour once again.”

Stuart Hardiman, Service Director at Blue Machinery (Southern), commented: “David Horton Contractors are a valued customer, and we’re proud to have been part of their journey for so many years. Their choice to upgrade to another PT 330 is a testament to the quality of Powerscreen machinery and the support we provide.

The new design improvements on the PT 330, coupled with its increased productivity, ensure it’s a perfect fit for their needs. We’re grateful for their continued trust in Blue Southern.”

The new Premiertrak 330 has already hit the ground running on its first job, as we visited the machine whilst it was working on a demolition job just outside of Swindon.

Paving the Path Away from Landfill

Click

Cireco Scotland is one of Scotland’s leading waste management providers, operating as a commercial enterprise backed by Fife Council. Serving a diverse range of clients, including businesses of all sizes and local authorities, Cireco delivers quick, convenient, and environmentally friendly waste management solutions.

For over a decade, Cireco has partnered with Blue Machinery (Scotland) to transform its waste processing capabilities. Building on the success of a dry mixed recycling materials recovery facility (MRF) at their Lochhead site, Cireco has once again placed its trust in Blue Scotland to deliver a new, cutting-edge MRF at their Ladybank facility.

Cireco processes a variety of waste streams at Ladybank, including local authority Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste, Commercial and Industrial (C&I) waste, and mixed skip waste from their skip hire business. Historically, bulky waste posed significant challenges, often being sent to landfill due to its incompatibility with waste-to-energy plants.

To address these challenges, Blue Scotland collaborated with BlueMAC Manufacturing to design and install a state-of-the-art recycling facility. The facility boasts an efficient, multi-step process for handling waste.

Waste is loaded into the Metso 6000 pre-shredder, reducing material size for subsequent mechanised separation. An inline magnet extracts ferrous metals before materials proceed to the Spaleck scalping screen. The scalping screen separates materials over 200mm, which are directed to a manual sorting station to recover the materials into five dedicated product bays.

Material under 200mm moves through a long-part separator and a Spaleck Combi Screen, producing three fractions: -10mm fines, 10-60mm mid-size material, and +60mm oversize.

“I’d like to thank Blue Machinery (Scotland) for their dedication and expertise in making this exciting project a reality. This is, without a doubt, our most impressive recycling facility to date.”

Ferrous and non-ferrous metals are extracted from the mid-size fraction using magnets and an eddy current separator. Remaining material undergoes windshifting to separate heavy fractions from light materials.

The +60mm material is processed by a double-drum Nihot windshifter, creating three streams: a clean heavy fraction, a wood-rich mid fraction, and light materials for waste-to-energy. Heavy fractions and mid fractions undergo manual quality control to ensure product purity.

Earlier this year, the facility integrated Tomra optical sorters, significantly boosting its throughput and precision. With this advanced technology, the MRF now processes between 30-50 tons of material per hour, achieving ambitious recycling targets.

The facility recycles the vast majority of its incoming waste, with only a small fraction of residual waste being sent to waste-to-energy plants.

Robin Baird, Chief Executive Officer at Cireco Scotland, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: “Our new state-of-the-art recycling facility enables us to recycle a large proportion of our incoming waste. With the Scottish landfill ban on the horizon, waste-to-energy has become the sole outlet for residual waste. This innovative plant has eliminated our reliance on landfills, firmly aligning us with Scotland’s sustainability goals.

I’d like to thank Blue Machinery (Scotland) for their dedication and expertise in making this exciting project a reality. This is, without a doubt, our most impressive recycling facility to date.”

Celebrating 20 Years of Partnership with Doppstadt

This year Blue Machinery proudly celebrates two decades as the UK’s exclusive dealer for Doppstadt. This milestone represents a longstanding partnership rooted in shared values of innovation, quality, and service excellence.

Originally as a dealer for Powerscreen, supplying crushing and screening equipment to the quarry and aggregates sector, the Blue Machinery companies recognised a pivotal shift in 2004. With the rapid growth of the recycling industry in the UK, the need to diversify into this market became evident. Blue identified Doppstadt as the perfect partner, a respected brand with a strong reputation in shredding and screening technology but with limited coverage in the UK. This mutual need led to an introduction, and soon after, Blue Machinery was appointed as the exclusive dealer for Doppstadt across the UK.

Since then, Blue Machinery has sold over 500 Doppstadt machines in the UK, solidifying Doppstadt as a cornerstone supplier within its portfolio. Doppstadt’s pioneering shredding and screening solutions have enabled Blue Machinery to become a leader in the recycling market, consistently delivering quality, reliable equipment that meets the evolving demands of UK customers.

Over the years, Blue Machinery has supplied an impressive array of Doppstadt’s high-speed and slow-speed shredders, as well as their renowned trommel screens. Recent product introductions, such as the Inventhor 6.2 slow-speed shredder and the new SM 620.3 trommel screen, reflect Doppstadt’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation, enabling Blue Machinery to bring the latest advancements to UK customers.

Doppstadt machines have become known for their reliability and advanced technology. Customers have benefited from efficiency, durability, and innovative

design of Doppstadt equipment, which has consistently met the needs of even the most demanding recycling operations.

As part of its commitment to providing exceptional service, Blue Machinery has dedicated itself to supporting and maintaining Doppstadt equipment through a highly trained team of engineers.

Regular training sessions at Doppstadt’s factories ensure that Blue Machinery’s service team is well-equipped with the latest technical knowledge, providing customers with unparalleled expertise and support.

As the recycling industry continues to evolve, Blue Machinery is excited to further strengthen its partnership with Doppstadt.

“We’re proud of the journey we’ve shared with Doppstadt over the last 20 years,” says Sean McGeary, Sales Director at Blue Machinery (Central).

“Doppstadt’s commitment to innovation and quality aligns perfectly with our mission to bring the best equipment to the UK market. We look forward to continuing this partnership for many years to come.”

Reflecting on the milestone, Gerd Schreier, Managing Director at Doppstadt, adds, “Blue Machinery has been an outstanding partner for us in the UK. Their expertise, dedication, and commitment to customer service have played a significant role in establishing Doppstadt’s reputation in this market. We are thrilled to celebrate 20 years of collaboration and look forward to many more successful years together.”

We’re ISO Accredited!

Over the course of the last 3 years the Blue Machinery businesses have established and implemented an Integrated Management System (IMS) in house. In 2024 the focus has been on improving the utilisation and value of the IMS to achieve globally recognised accreditations ISO 45001 for Health & Safety, ISO 9001 for Quality and ISO 14001 for Environment. Whilst these accreditations benefit the business externally, the primary drive has been internal continuous improvement to ensure exceptional H&S performance and the protection of our people, unmatched customer service and the consideration of how we might reduce the impact our business activities have on the environment now, and in the future.

In September we underwent Stage 2 ISO Audits with AUVA, with 4 auditors visiting our sites over the course of a week. The auditors spent time with Hannah France and other members of the team talking about our processes, sampling documentation and touring the offices, workshops and warehouses. With not a single nonconformance picked up along the way, we were awarded all three accreditations across the Group. This is an incredibly significant achievement for the Group and a testament to the hard work and commitment of our staff. The ISO accreditations are not a destination, but a journey and we have a great foundation on which we can keep growing and improving.
