Library Board Meeting February 4th at 1 pm in the Library February is a busy time for Lakeside Public Library!! Our Blind Date with a Book Program has begun. Come in to the library in February and select a wrapped book to read. After completing the book return it along with a short evaluation of the book to us and we will enter you in our weekly drawing. We will continue drawing a weekly prize through the middle of March. You may enter as many times as you wish. We hope you may find a new author or genre that you enjoy! Our Pre-School Storytime is going strong. All young children are welcome to attend each Wednesday from 1-2:30. A story, activity and snack will be provided each session and this month we will center our stories around Valentine's Day and Kindness.
A 57-year-old woman was arrested for shoplifting. When she went before the judge he asked her, "What did you steal?" She replied: a can of peaches. The judge asked her why she had stolen them and she replied that she was hungry. The judge then asked her how many peaches were in the can. She replied 6. The judge then said, "I will give you 6 days in jail." Before the judge could actually pronounce the punishment the woman's husband spoke up and asked the judge if he could say something. He said," What is it? " The husband said, "She also stole a can of peas."

BEAVER RESTORATION HABITAT PROPOSAL ON TEN MILE CREEK
out the dry summer months (compared to doing nothing). This effort would also allow natural fish passage (beavers and fish have coinhabited for eons), and do so simply with a habitat restoration process that has already been approved and implemented throughout the United States including many locations in Oregon. This project is not without costs. I want to make it clear that it is my opinion that we as the TLA should and will fund this effort completely. I would like to invite anyone down to Ringo's Marina Marina to discuss this project and any concerns you have.
Friends, Alan Whitney, Mike Mader and I have completed and begun the submission process for a beaver restoration habitat along Tenmile Creek. This letter is to summarize why we are pursuing this action. As the owner of Ringo’s Lakeside Marina, I have witnessed in less that 10 years, two of the 6 original marinas close due to low water conditions on Tenmile Lakes. My own floating structures have been repeatedly damaged and rendered unusable during the summer months. Countless lakefront docks have been damaged, local tourism has been impacted as boats struggle to launch in low water conditions and lake passage through Tenmile Canal is severely restricted. Since moving to Lakeside in 2009 I have undertaken this fight 3 times and have been on the Water Depth Subcommittee. Concrete Dams, Bladder Dams, Gated Weirs, you name it we have tried to do it. All of these options would work, but none ever ever got as far as the 404 permit request st. . Why? Water Rights, Fish reque Passage, and excessive costs, have mad made these options impossible to get approved. We feel what what is left is for us to try is to create a beaver restoration habitat using all natural and native materials and restoring adjacent riparian areas, in hopes that some of the hundreds of beavers in our water system adopt our habitat. The positive side effect is that a restoration effort would naturally slow the flow of Tenmile Creek. If successful, it would achieve approximately 2-3 feet of additional lake depth through-

Chamber of Commerce News Submitted by Linda Sherych
We lost a dear friend and leader January 23. Jonie Reeder ( the Cake Lady) and President of the Lakeside Chamber of Commerce passed away. She was 79 years young. She was fiercely independent, a community activist and talented woman. Many in the community enjoyed her delicious cakes, pies and cookies. Her house was always decorated with wooden figures of what ever Holiday was coming. These were lovingly made by her husband Jerry, which Jonie then painted and displayed. Jonie and Jerry are now together. Her infectious smile and laughter will be greatly missed. Per her request, no service will be held. A memorial gathering will be planned at a later date.
