Unity
Good evening friends! It is my pleasure to update you on how we are demonstrating our Christian walk in Community development. Twenty years ago Bishop Blake had a vision of ministry that transformed the people and places outside the walls of the church and Dr. Ballton our founding executive director started out on a mission to do just that. I can’t believe been doing this for 20 years and I have worked inside the organization for at least half the time. It has been busy over the last 20 years, I can confirm that we have
• Feed hundreds of thousands with hot food and groceries • Prepared taxes for free for tens of thousands resulting in more $10million being returned to our community • Developed peacemakers through our former mediation programs • Created hundreds of new first time homeowners who have achieved the American dream and • And we have saved thousands of homes on behalf of struggling homeowners.
Above the services I can count and the number of people we have touched what I can say is that the CDC is a tangible expression of god’s love for all his people. As I reflect on my time as Executive Director for the last three years, I must thank those that stand before me, behind me and with me. The West Angeles CDC board of directors, those members both current and past have shepherded this vision without fail and I thank the staff who bring their best every day to achieve the most.
And finally but most of all I thank the one that laid the for the CDC and all it’s successes. I thank god that he gave a vision to Bishop Blake and I am so thankful that Bishop shared his vision with all of us, invested in us, supported us and entrusted Dr. Ballton and me to see that vision grow into a 20 year success! Well, west Angeles there hasn’t been a year that goes by in all our 20 years when we don’t celebrate and account for the previous year with old and new friends alike. We are pleased to have Bank of the West as our Corporate Citizen of the Year, a deserving firm that has invested in low-income and underserved communities through the West Angeles CDC. I can’t wait to share several additional items we have planned in partnership with Bank of the West. This year we honor Matt Kemp, Los Angeles Dodger as our man of the year. Matt’s love for the sport and sharing that love with youth is simply infectious! We are excited about our upcoming partnership activities with the Los Angeles Dodger organization. We hope you enjoy this evening’s program and rest assured, for the next 20 years, we will stand close to our values of Community, Diversity, Faith and Hope! Join us! Tunua Thrash-Ntuk

The Black National Anthem
Lift every voice and sing, till earth and heaven ring, Ring with the harmonies of liberty; Let our rejoicing rise, high as the list’ning skies, Let it resound loud as the rolling sea. Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us, Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us; Facing the rising sun of our new day begun, Let us march on till victory is won. Stony the road we trod, bitter the chast’ning rod, Felt in the days when hope unborn had died; Yet with a steady beat, have not our weary feet, Come to the place for which our fathers sighed. We have come over a way that with tears has been watered. We have come, treading g our path through the blood of the slaughtered. Out from a gloomy past, till now we stand at last, Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast. God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou who has brought us thus far on the way; Thou who has by Thy might, led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray. Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee, Lest our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee; Shadowed beneath Thy hand, may we forever stand, True to our God, true to our native land.

Matt grew up in Midwest City, Oklahoma where he attended Midwest City High School excelling in two sports – basketball and baseball. He was pursued heavily by basketball recruiters his senior year but because of the talent showcase he put on in baseball that spring, his path had already been chosen. That year Matt was drafted out of high school by the Dodgers organization in the 6th round of the 2003 draft.
Extremely active with charity work, Kemp’s Kids is a player program within the Dodgers Organization established by Matt to provide underprivileged and inner-city youth with opportunities to visit and experience Dodger Stadium. Along with the player program, Kemp’s Kids is dedicated to elevating and increasing the relevance of Major League Baseball and participation of youth baseball among inner-city youth in the greater Los Angeles area. This past season Kemp’s Kids hosted a private screening event of the
move “42” on the Warner Bros lot and will host a special holiday event in December. Matt is also active in his home state as well, donating $1,000 for every HR hit to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and working with Positive Tomorrows, which is a school for children of homeless families.

AKELEE Born in Cleveland, Ohio, raised in Los Angeles California, Akelee was introduced to music at a very young age. As she listened to her mom sing around the house, she would join in and sing along to powerhouse vocalists such as Aretha Frankilin, Patti Labelle, The Clark Sisters, Sam Cook and other great artists. She spent long hours studying, teaching herself and learning how to own her gift, and now it is all paying off. Akelee was one of the top three finalists out of 10,000 people who auditioned in California for American Idol, Season One. She reached the top 45 in the United States at the age of 17. Akelee has since worked with Grammy award winning artists, performing alongside gospel icons such as Mary Mary. She was featured in the gospel track, “Mr. Pretender,” from the gospel album, Weight and Glory, which reached #1 on the Billboard charts. Akelee is currently recording her debut album, which she strictly likes to pattern and think of as “Kingdom music” aka music for the Kingdom. She states,
