We’re here to serve you. Hello and welcome to your Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department. With a new name comes a redesigned RecConnect information guide and a fresh new logo. Our goal is to streamline RecConnect to make it easier for you to find information. We hope you enjoy this new approach to how we serve you. We have been listening to what the citizens want and this is the start of great things to come. Keep Imagining the Possibilities: Less than one year ago, we challenged ourselves to imagine the possibilities when we opened the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre. We began with a vision of creating a vibrant cultural arts center in our community—a place where you could listen to live performances, try a theatre workshop, enjoy some improv. If you haven’t attended a show or event at the centre, I encourage you to come check it out. We have plenty of great events planned for fall (and more being added). Thanks to the citizens of Wake Forest for allowing us to serve you. Wake Forest Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department: Enhancing our Community’s Quality of Life—One Resident at a Time!

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department seeks to enhance the lives of the citizens of Wake Forest by offering a comprehensive system of parks, greenways, facilities, and open spaces, coupled with cultural and athletic programs, that promote education, health, and wellness.
PARKS & GREENWAYS PLACES TO PLAY
From the flagship park to the smaller neighborhood parks, Wake Forest offers a wide range of places to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. E. Carroll Joyner Park
E. Carroll Joyner Park is one of the community’s most treasured resources. With 117 acres of sweeping lawns and restored farm buildings, the park is a beautiful setting for public and private events. A magnificent pecan grove offers shade underneath its canopy for picnics and relaxation. The 1000-seat amphitheater provides the perfect setting for large performances including the “Six Sundays in Spring” concert series. A smaller performance garden offers an intimate venue for weddings, storytelling and music workshops. Amidst the beautiful scenery loop three miles of paved trails for walking bicycling and inline skating. Leashed dogs are also welcome to enjoy the trails. RENT THIS SITE

Wake Forest Reservoir The Wake Forest Reservoir was created as a drinking water source for the town in the early 1960s. Shortly after the City of Raleigh utility merger, the water plant was taken off line, but limited operations are still in place at the reservoir. You can still see some of the water plant structures on site. Today, the lake is open for paddle and electric powered boats. Hikers can explore the 1.6 mile trail which follows the west bank of the reservoir. The driveway to the lake is located off of Traditions Grande Boulevard near Wait Avenue. There is a small concrete boat ramp adjacent to the parking area.

New bocce ball court completed for Eagle Scout project Jared Blaylock, scout member of Troop 399, directed seven major workdays to construct a bocce ball court at Tyler Run Park. It is the only wheelchair accessible bocce ball court in Wake County and is available for Wake County Special Olympics as well as anyone in the community. “It was an intense, time consuming and costly project for him to tackle,” said his father, Rick Blaylock. “He was fortunate to have the strong commitment of his troop behind him.” Together, they dug footers, mixed concrete, built wood forms and spread gravel. Thanks to Jared and his entire troop, this new facility is now ready for use.
Parks and greenway improvements in November bond referendum Wake Forest voters will get the chance to head to the polls on Nov. 4 to weigh in on a $25.1million bond that would help pay for projects such as new streets and sidewalks, the second phase of Joyner Park, expansion of Northern Wake Senior Center and greenway improvements. Though the bond itself would be $25.1 million, it would contribute to projects worth $56.6 million. Much of the difference between the amounts is made up by grants. The bond could require a property tax increase of 2 cents. However, an increase may not be necessary if the town’s revenues increase enough to absorb the costs. The three improvement areas chosen for the referendum are a continuation of the town’s ongoing vision to improve Wake Forest’s quality of life. Girl Scout earns Silver Award by improving safety at tennis courts When considering what to do for her Girl Scout Silver Award project, Savannah Barnes was moved by a story that her tennis instructor shared about a woman who suffered a cardiac arrest while playing on the Flaherty Park Tennis Courts. Fortunately, the woman recovered but had her playing partners known an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was available inside the Flaherty Park Community Center, her chances of survival would have been even greater. After hearing this story, Savannah, a rising ninth-grader at Thales Academy, decided she would earn her Silver Award by coordinating the production and installation of AED signs at the tennis courts. To top it off, she even raised the money for the signs herself. “We are extremely grateful to Savannah for recognizing a need at one of our facilities and then working with us to make that facility a safer place,” said PRCR Director Ruben Wall. “This is a wonderful example of the great things we can accomplish by working together.”
