ECA'S ANSWER TO INJUSTICE

Dear Parents, ECA shares deep sorrow for those who lost their lives at the hands of racial violence. We mourn with their families, friends, and communities. We acknowledge that the senseless, heinous acts that took their lives stem from a larger, deeper conflict within our community, our country, and our world. The answers to racism, prejudice, discrimination, and hate will not come from government or law enforcement alone. All of us must work to cultivate bonds of genuine solidarity. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. stated, “hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that.” It is this kind of love that inspires us to do the rigorous work of building bridges rather than walls. There are ways every one of us can contribute. ECA calls on people everywhere to join us in the journey of understanding and overcoming. This may begin locally, but our actions can affect and support this global movement. It is paramount that we recognize the value in every life. We must embrace this to learn and grow together.

ECA calls on our parents, family members, and teachers to be the first line of defense. Racism, prejudice, discrimination, and hate are learned. Teaching children to love all, and treasure the good in others, is more crucial than ever. Oneness is not sameness in America. We must all learn to honor differences. ECA calls on government, business, and educational leaders at every level to review processes, laws, and organizational attitudes regarding racism and root it out. It is past due for every one of us to elevate our conversations above divisive and polarizing rhetoric. Treating others with respect matters. Hand in hand, we will work together to make our ECA community a better, stronger, and safer place for all. We Can and We Will.ECA’s mission is to open pathways to opportunities for students and families. Our school provides rigorous academics and the opportunity to earn substantial college credit for free while honoring each student’s unique journey. Our community is built on a foundation of mutual trust and respect, and a belief that everyone matters. Respectfully submitted, Todd Cordrey, Executive Director on behalf of The Board and Staff of The Early College of Arvada.

PLANNING FOR THE 2021 SCHOOL YEAR JANICE ANDERSON JANDERSON@ECARVADA.ORG

Happy Summer!I hope this newsletter finds you and your family all safe and healthy. I know that we continue to live in uncertain times. Please know that ECA places the utmost importance on the safety and security of all our students. For this reason, the Administrative Team is working hard during the Summer to plan for a Fall model that continues to meet the rigor and excellence that you have all grown accustomed to from ECA, while also adhering to the State and County Health Orders. I know that not having concrete decisions made yet is not ideal, but we want to take our time to create a thoughtful and educationally executable plan. As of right now we intend to return to in person learning in August. In addition, we are exploring online curriculum that will support the learning of any student whose family chooses to remain with remote learning or to support remote learning should we have to return to any kind of quarantine during the semester. In addition, we are taking the state considerations and are planning for what school will look like as we follow the recommended guidelines. We need all students and families to understand that all educational experiences will be impacted by the recommendations. We are doing the best we can to maintain as much normalcy as possible, but next school year will be different. We have been asked to be as flexible and nimble as possible, as the State is anticipating a semester that flows in and out of remote learning. As the summer progresses we will send out the most up to information that we can, so that students and families are aware and prepared for the Fall Semester. We are living in a constantly changing world, so we ask for your patience and understanding as we will have to continue to change and adjust as the State continues to roll out new guidelines almost daily.
