PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES JANICE ANDERSON JANDERSON@ECARVADA.ORG

Happy Fall to all our Families, Our school year is more than off and running. We are so thrilled to have everyone back and learning throughout all classes. We are so very thankful to our families for continuing to stay home when any symptoms arise. Right now there are many forms of the common cold occurring in conjunction with COVID, but we must continue to err on the side of caution, and test. If we continue to limit exposure, we can continue to provide in school learning. A student's education is the focal point of all that we do here at ECA. Students are most successful when we surround them with a supportive community and all work together to support each and every student. As a school, we want to continue to partner with all our families to make sure that every student is learning in the most effective ways possible. Conferences are the opportunity for teachers to meet with families to learn how each student learns best. By taking the time to learn from you what your student's strengths and weaknesses are we can formulate a path to help build their success. I encourage all families to come and talk with all teachers, so that we can continue to provide all students with the very best education. Conferences will be held in person, here at school on Tuesday, October 12th from 4-7. We are looking forward to seeing you all there!

AS STATED IN ECA'S HEALTH POLICY JULIE RAMSAY JRAMSAY@ECARVADA.ORG

PICKING UP STUDENTS WHEN INJURED OR ILL Parents and Guardians are expected to pick up their student as soon as possible or make other arrangements for them to be picked up in a reasonable timeframe. Students who are sick or injured often need medical attention. We follow guidance from the Colorado Emergency Care Guidelines for Schools, infectious Disease Guidelines, as well as the decisions made by trained staff on scene. Once school has started for the day, students who are not feeling well are required to visit the clinic prior to calling parents/guardians to pick them up or for medication. Should a student not check in with the clinic and parent/guardian signs the student out due to illness, the student’s attendance may be marked as an unexcused absence (see attendance section for more information regarding attendance policies and procedures). HEALTH CARE PROVIDER ORDERS - When is this needed and why? Whenever your student has been prescribed medication, or you would like them to have over the counter medication at school, we must have signed provider orders prior to administering or storing your students medication. Doctor’s orders must be given to a member of the ECA Medical Team by the parent/guardian so they may be reviewed for completeness and clarity before leaving your student at school.

PAGE 6

MEDICATION Students are required to have a doctor’s order and parent permission on file in ECA’s health office to receive any medications of any kind, including medications that can be obtained “over the counter”. Asthma and Allergy plans can be different from medication only plans, for the most up to date plan please request one from the ECA health office in advance of any scheduled medical appointments. All medications must be given to us in their original bottle for over the counter medications or the prescription bottle from the pharmacy with the correct prescription label attached. We cannot accept medications in any other container, for example, a zip lock bag or envelope. Doctor’s orders must accompany all medications including over the counter medications. The doctor must indicate on the orders if he/she wishes for the student to carry their medications. Otherwise, they will be locked in the Health Office and students may obtain their medication from Mrs. Ramsey. IMMUNIZATIONS Parents/Guardians are responsible for ensuring all immunizations are current prior to your student attending ECA. For those who wish their students to be exempt from immunizations, most exemption forms must be signed and resubmitted every school year. If you need help finding resources to get your student immunized please reach out to Mrs. Ramsey. Students will be sent home if they have not been immunized or if a signed exemption has not been provided. In the event of an outbreak of a disease, those students not immunized will be sent home until the outbreak has been cleared.

PAGE 7

INJURIES HOME (OFF CAMPUS) INJURIES - If your student is injured at home or off campus for example, evenings or weekends, please see ECA’s Health Manager prior to your student attending their first class. If you drop them off and leave our premises and they have crutches or braces, etc., but no doctor’s orders for any special accommodations, we will have no choice but to ask you to please come back for your student. For their safety and wellbeing, we are obligated to ensure we are following proper orders and accommodations, so they are safe and comfortable while at school. SCHOOL (ON CAMPUS) INJURIES - If your student is injured on campus, either the Parent/Guardian or designate must pick them up in a relatively short time frame. AMBULANCE - In the event your student has a serious injury at ECA and the Parent/Guardian is not readily available to pick up their student, or the situation represents an emergency or life or limb threatening event as defined by the individuals on scene, an ambulance will be called. The expense for an ambulance is the sole responsibility of the Parent/Guardian. ICE/BANDAGES ECA will provide ice and/or bandages for minor injuries such as swelling, visible bruises or cuts for injuries that occurred on campus. These items will not be provided for injuries which occurred off campus.

Rick Heroff Middle School Assistant Principal/C.E & Career Coordinator (720) 473-4400 EXT 320

Middle School Parents, we are grateful for your support as we work through Post-COVID challenges. Many of our students have not been in physical classrooms, or a school for 18 months prior to last month. So we are adjusting to school structure, and expectations. We’re happy to say that we are making some great strides! We are looking forward to conferences in a few weeks to update you on how your individual student is doing so far. Please look for messaging coming out this week on how we will sign up for conference slots. If you have questions for teachers leading up to conferences don’t hesitate to reach out. Concurrent Enrollment Students enrolled in College classes are now in the heart of instruction both here at ECA and in their off campus and remote courses through our college partners. If students are having any trouble being successful in their classes, their first resource is to reach out to their instructor. If they need more support and are in off campus courses they can contact Mr. Heroff to troubleshoot any issues they may have. Front Range will be hosting advising in the month of October with seniors that have accrued more than 20 college credits that are planning for the spring semester and beyond. Even if you are not planning to attend Front Range after high school graduation, these meetings can be valuable and help provide insight into your transition to your next college destination and how to prepare for it. For any questions about concurrent enrollment please contact Mr. Heroff at rheroff@ecarvada.org or 720-473-4400 ext 320
