PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES JANICE ANDERSON JANDERSON@ECARVADA.ORG

It was so wonderful to see so many of our families at Parent Teacher Conferences. This is always my favorite time of the year where the Staff get to celebrate each student's strengths and to help develop a plan to continue their educational growth. This is such a powerful tool in motivating students to live up to their fullest potential. We are now headed into the end of the semester and we want to make certain students end strongly. Please encourage them to stay on top of their studies and ask for help when needed. Every one of our teachers is dedicated to supporting each and every one of our students. Also, encourage students to take advantage of our after school tutoring. There are teachers here after school to help support our learners with their academics. In addition, there are many opportunities for adult and parenting support classes as well as many clubs, sports and dance options that are now being offered after school for free. These are great opportunities to motivate our students and allow us to grow our community here at ECA. Lastly, I want to thank each and every one of our families during this season of thanks for entrusting us with your child/ren. It is such a pleasure to partner with you in helping to educate your students.

Counselor Corner BRIDGETTE FOSTER BFOSTER@ECARVADA.ORG

Hello Seniors, College Application Season is approaching! ECA is here to help you through the process. In the coming weeks and months, Mr. Heroff and I will be meeting with each of you to discuss the College Process on an individual level, as well as outline post graduation options. In the meantime, here is what you should be doing right now to set yourself up for success: 1) Create a Common App account (DO NOT request letters of recommendation until you link the Common App with Naviance, or it will not work). Common App Website to Sign Up What is the Common App? How to link Common App and Naviance 2) Finalize a list of Colleges you plan on applying to in Naviance. Move them from "colleges I am thinking about" to "colleges I'm applying to". How to add Colleges to your Naviance account 3) Note the deadlines for each College you want to apply to. Are you applying Early Decision, Early Action, Regular Decision, or Rolling Admission? 4 Types of College deadlines explained

Page 4

4) Does a College on your list require an essay? Does the College require multiple, supplemental essays? You can find this information through their website or by adding the College to your Naviance/Common App. Common App Essay Prompts Tips for writing a great Common App Essay Word Limit (over 250, under 650). I am happy to proofread a draft of your essay and provide feedback. 5) Complete a Brag Sheet and share with me via google drive. A completed Brag Sheet will help me write a great counselor recommendation for you. You may also share your Brag Sheet with those writing a Letter of Recommendation for you. 6) Letters of Recommendation (LOR). How many LORs you need depends on each College's application requirements, much like the essays. Who should I ask for a LOR? Request a LOR though Naviance (DO NOT do this until your accounts are linked). Overall, I understand that the College Process can be a daunting one. If you start early, it is much more manageable. Stay tuned for SEL visits from me and emails regarding building a college list, financial aid, scholarship, and more.

AS STATED IN ECA'S HEALTH POLICY JULIE RAMSAY JRAMSAY@ECARVADA.ORG

Respiratory season is upon us, and it's an unusually early one this year. 'Normal' winter respiratory illnesses like cold, croup and flu are up in kids across the board. Meanwhile, their symptoms can look a lot like COVID-19. How to tell one from the other? An infectious disease expert from Children’s Hospital Colorado says that although flu and common cold symptoms can be similar to COVID-19 in kids, there are some important differences. Know the difference.

B.Y.O.M. Bring Your Own Mask The current policy at ECA is that all people over the age of 2 must wear masks while inside the ECA building whether vaccinated or not. Please remember to BRING YOUR OWN MASK daily

Rick Heroff Middle School Assistant Principal/C.E & Career Coordinator (720) 473-4400 EXT 320 Middle School: Happy November! Our Middle School team is working hard to help your students. In addition to making progress in their core classes, the Middle School has been focussing on character development during our SEL periods Monday through Thursday. We discuss how we treat others, how to have healthy relationships, and showing honesty/integrity. Reminders: If your student will be out for any extended periods of time please contact, or have your student contact their teachers to keep up with their work. As always please notify the front office. Student dress code in winter months includes no pajamas, unless there is a spirit day specifically set aside for it. Students are not to wear hoods/hats in the building. We encourage students to always dress appropriately for the weather as we do go outside frequently for breaks, and lunch if the weather is above freezing. Concurrent Enrollment: Students enrolled in classes at the Frontrange campus be advised that as soon as you get back from Thanksgiving break you will be preparing for finals. Front Range campus courses will end one week before ECA. Students should report their final grades to Mr. Heroff as soon as they have them. Registration for the spring opens November 9th. You can look at the spring semester schedule of classes beginning November 1st for Frontrange. ALL off campus registration needs to be approved by Mr. Heroff. If you need help selecting classes please reach out to him, or Ms. Foster for advice and resources. For any questions about concurrent enrollment please contact Mr. Heroff at rheroff@ecarvada.org or 720-473-4400 ext 320 Early College of Arvada | 7

Attendance

& Tardiness Guadalupe Marquez

High School Assistant Principal 720-473-4408 I am so excited to see all our tree colors change as I am sure the students are as well. As the weather changes, remind your student to wear coats and or enough layers to be comfortable at school. We are currently facing some challenges with attendance. Students are showing up late. School starts at 8:00 am and they will be marked Tardy and three tardies equal an absence. You can find the Colorado law on attendance here https://www.cde.state.co.us/choice/homeschool_att endancelaw; please make sure you review it as we are required to follow it. Reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. We have started our off campus for 11th and 12th grade students for lunch. These students must hold a 3.0 or higher GPA. If the student returns late from lunch, he/she will lose their off campus privilege. We are at mid-semester and it is critical for students to do all their missing work within the current unit to ensure they continue to be on track for graduation. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns at gmarquez@ecarvada.org or 720-473-4408
