Ben de Lisi is a prolific fashion designer. He designed the knock-out red Oscar dress that marked Kate Winslet’s transformation into a Hollywood glamour puss, as well as designing clothes for stars including; Liz Hurley, Rachel Weisz and Jemima Khan to name but a few. Ben has also been twice named glamour designer of the year at the British Fashion Awards. Growing up in New York Ben studied sculpture at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, but then made the decision to cross the Atlantic in 1982 to pursue his dream of becoming a fashion designer. It was back in 2001 when Ben de Lisi turned his creative skills to interior design. “A good designer can turn his hand to anything. You see the world through a designers’ eyes. You know what is going to be successful, whether it is a chair, a bath or an evening gown.” Ben was approached to work on some show apartments in Manchester, in a very chic development known as ‘The Edge’. Ben de Lisi teamed up with Yorkshire based Abacus Direct back in November 2005 and after two years of intensive development the Ben de Lisi Bathroom Concepts were created. The collection includes everything that you need to create a stylish bathroom, including sanitaryware, shower screens, towel rails, furniture and baths. Ben comments, ‘When working on interior designs for the apartments I realised bathrooms were a key feature of their appeal. You start and end your day there – why should it not be somewhere to spoil yourself, somewhere which is enviable and aspirational.’ Add that essence of the catwalk to your bathroom and go and create your own sanctuary.
