October 2012
File Not Found- Art Exhibition After a wonderful opening ceremony on the 6th of October, the BMHC is proud to announce that File Not Found is now open to the public from now until the 25th of November (please see opening times below) Guests at the opening ceremony, young and old, Muslim and nonMuslim, commented on the thought provoking nature of the exhibition and hopefully took home something positive from their visit. The installations at the exhibition are the work of three artists, Yasin Erik Bognar, Zoltan Homokey, and Yusf Ali. Their motivation for the exhibition comes from their view that the current Islamic Art scene is devoid of anything new, and that a lot of Islamic Art is stuck in the distant past and there is little effort to bring Islamic Art into the 21st Century.
JOURNEY THROUGH MUSLIM LANDS IV: EGYPT: The Bastion of Islamic Civilisation Come and learn about the diverse history and peoples of Egypt and their contribution to Islamic Civilisation
Armed with this thought in mind, the artists went back to basics and sought inspiration from the Surahs of the Quran. As a result, most of the installations have been based on Quranic Surahs, and have tried to depict the vivid imagery contained within these verses. In addition, they have selected verses that portray values shared by all three Abrahmic faiths: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The artists have also used part of the exhibition space to display work by local Muslim artists, which fulfils another important aim of the exhibition that is to raise the profile of local artists, who otherwise have no place to display their work. If you have not already done so, we welcome you to come and visit the exhibition and let us know what you think!

Al-Andalus: The Jewel of Europe-9th September The third installment of our series of lectures: Journey Through Muslim Lands was a success. Dr Seddon of the University of Chester inspired the audience with his thorough, but concise history of Muslim Spain. He also highlighted the lessons that can be learnt from that period and how they are relevant to contemporary pluralistic society. The afternoon was an event for all the family to enjoy- the dining hall and coffee lounge were full of clothing and food stalls put on by members of the community.
This Ramadan at BMHC Ramadan was a really blessed month for the centre. We had a number of fund raising events on television and at the centre where people donated generously. The centre held Tarawih prayer every evening during Ramadan and we were fortunate enough to be able to provide Iftar meals in the last ten days of the month. We also held a Qayam-ul-lail on the 27th night and invited worshipers to join us for The Sahoor.
