BISHOP MONTGOMERY HIGH SCHOOL
Be You. Be More. Be Bishop. Be You. Be More. Be Bishop. Be You. Be More. Be Bishop. Be You. Be More. Be Bishop. Be You. Be More. Be Bishop. Be You. Be More. Be Bishop. Be You. Be More. Be Bishop. Be You. Be More. Be Bishop.
WE ARE BISHOP. Located less than one mile from the Pacific Ocean, Bishop Montgomery has inspired academic excellence and spiritual development, coupled with athletic, leadership, and service opportunities, among a diverse co-ed student body since 1957.
We want you to like high school. Actually, we want you to LOVE high school. We want you to jump into the Bishop family and never look back, knowing that you made the best choice ever for the next four years of your life. So, what's the secret? Take the four pillars Bishop Montgomery were founded upon -- spiritual development, academic excellence, athletic success, and social growth -- and roll them into one amazing high school experience. Over four years, forty-eight months, eight semesters, 720 school days, these pillars and the community supporting them are what will give you that high school to love‌ a dynamic place where you can always be you; a second family that will always encourage you to be more; and, an outstanding alma mater where you can look back and proudly state: "I went there, I was prepared for my future, and I had the time of my life."
BE YOU.
BE MORE.
BE BISHOP.

You are unique. You are one of a kind. But, you also want to belong. You want to belong to something bigger, something more, something that appreciates you and your talents, something that sees your strengths, something that believes in your potential. You want a high school that wants you. A school where you’re a member of a large family, not just a name or ID number. A second home that encourages your spiritual as well as academic growth. That home is Bishop Montgomery. Firmly rooted in Catholic tradition, with a college - prep curriculum, Bishop brings together everything that a high school should offer its students: a place where lifelong friendships and lifelong memories are made, a place where you can be you. We invite you to be part of something more – part of the Bishop Montgomery family – and experience everything that you’ve dreamed a high school should be.
BE FAITHFUL. Community means a lot at Bishop Montgomery and you’ll see it in the way we learn together, in the way we treat each other, and in the way we strive to be more and to do more. Community means we have your back. At Bishop, a Catholic education reaches far beyond four classroom walls, and you can feel that energy, that friendship, that kindness when you step onto campus. We are a community of faith, a community rooted in Christian love and Christian service. You might feel it while sharing your personal hopes and challenges with your retreat group; while studying with classmates in a group chat and acing your Honors Biology test; while standing ready to high-five your teammates when they cross home plate; or, while just walking to your next class and feeling that you are valued and welcomed here. At Bishop, you are part of one big family that allows you to be exactly you.
Faith in Action.
Campus Ministry provides opportunities for worship, service, leadership, and spiritual growth for everyone on campus. At Bishop, Campus Ministry isn’t just a class, it’s a campuswide experience: • Daily morning prayer in our school chapel • Monthly student body Masses • Certified Campus Ministry staff • Sacrament of Reconciliation opportunities • On-campus Schneider Retreat Center • On-campus Retreat Days for freshmen and sophomores • Off-campus Emmaus retreat experience for juniors • Off-campus Kairos retreat experience for seniors • Monthly Denim Day fundraisers for charity • Community service clubs • Year-round off-campus and on-campus community service opportunities
30,000 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE STUDENTS COMPLETE EACH YEAR
You Matter! Life can get stressful, it’s a given. And, sometimes, when that stress is too much, it’s nice to have a place to go, a place to work it all out. At Bishop, that place is Choices, a personal and confidential on-campus counseling service that exists just for you. One of four licensed marriage and family therapists is always available during the school day to talk with you. Big or small, no problem is outside of their expertise. When things get tough, they’re here to help. They’re here for you.
A Catholic education isn’t always easy. It involves commitment, dedication, and, sometimes, sacrifice, but it always means Gospel values-- faith-filled fellowship, unconditional support, mutual respect, appreciation, validation. It always means you’ll have an advantage for life.
Christ is the Reason for this School. It’s no surprise that this is a phrase you will often hear at Bishop Montgomery. It’s not only a reminder of our mission, it’s also a call to service for our students and faculty. In fact, on any given day, you’ll see it being lived out all over campus: in our food bank stocked with pantry staples for local families in need, in our Concordia Club’s annual Pennies for Patients Leukemia drive, and in our bi-monthly Denim Days with proceeds going to a variety of local and national charities. Many of our students are also involved in service projects outside of school. Katie Miyamoto ‘19 and Kennedy Dierks ’19 (below center) are just a few examples of Christ in our community. Through No Crayon Left Behind, an organization dedicated to putting crayons in the hands of impoverished children, these students led a “crayon bundling” event at St. John Fisher School and, along with over 200 SJF students, prepared 8,000 crayons for delivery to schools and women’s shelters throughout the Los Angeles area.
BE INQUISITIVE. Why a Bishop Montgomery education? BMHS has a longstanding tradition of academic excellence. The value of a good teacher is immeasurable… and often intangible. How can you quantify the passion for English literature that Ms. Rudder brings to your classroom? Are there words to describe how that extra review time with Mr. Nguyen after school made you feel confident and prepared for your AP Chemistry test? At Bishop, our teachers bring a quality educational experience to each classroom on campus. All of our faculty members hold professional degrees and continue their own educations by pursuing advanced degrees, attending conferences and workshops throughout the year, and collaborating with peers in their field. They also value the Bishop Montgomery community: over 80% of our teachers have been at Bishop for 5 or more years. Almost 30% are BMHS alumni themselves!

Athletic competition isn’t just about winning. Commitment and the pursuit of excellence is where the real reward is… not just in games, but on the practice floor and, more importantly, in the challenges of daily life. That is where the real champions shine through.
Bishop, you’re not just an athlete, you’re a student-athlete working as hard in the classroom as you are outside of it. We want you to be No. 1 all the way around, and so do your coaches. Your academic success is as important to us as your athletic achievements.

“Taking the rigorous courses that Bishop offers, especially the AP classes, and also being part of the Robotics team helped me focus on a STEM career path. For four years, I was surrounded by friends who were academically-motivated--- they wanted to do well in school and they inspired me to do well, too.” Alexa Marquez ‘17 Aerospace Engineering Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Class of 2021
“Teachers and mentors at Bishop taught me to be curious, and go the extra mile to achieve my goals. In honors English classes, I was challenged to write at a higher academic level. At university, I found the preparation… gave me a leg up on my peers. Bishop is unique in the way it breaks the mold and pushes you to grow, and be confident in who you are. That’s given me the power to do what I do as a career-- speaking to tens of thousands of people every day.” Sïonan Barrett ‘12 News Anchor University of Massachusetts, Amherst
