(SCCI), the nonprofit foundation of the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation, was created in order to showcase the beauty of Upstate South Carolina and the hospitality of its citizens to the world; to create an event that brings the Upstate a fun and entertaining week centered around professional athletes and world renowned celebrities; and raise money and awareness for South Carolina charities. Since 2001, the tournament has distributed more than $13 million to more than 200 charities, part of the PGA TOUR’s $2 billion raised for charity. The BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation is the only tournament on the Web.com Tour where amateurs and celebrities are grouped with Web.com Tour professionals in a threeday better-ball competition over two courses. Samantha Reeves was on the golf course with her high school team the first time she had a seizure, in February 2018. Seizures soon became frequent, often accompanied by an excruciating headache. Samantha was put on homebound leave from school. She and her family sought answers from multiple specialists and tried different medications, but nothing helped. Then Samantha, close to the breaking point, came to the Pediatric Pain Medicine practice of Children’s Hospital of Greenville Health System*. Dr. Blake Windsor suggested a series of multifaceted plans for tackling the problem until they found the one that worked. Samantha has not had a seizure in three months, thanks to maintenance medication and good hydration, along with a plan for quickly dealing with headaches when they do occur. She’s now attending school regularly and participating on the golf team. MOBILE MEALS BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation

MOBILE MEALS MISSION is to provide nutritious meals, services and fellowship to the frail and homebound of Spartanburg County. The stories and life circumstance vary with each Mobile Meals recipient. Some have no family to care for them and our volunteers are the only person they communicate with each weekday. Our homebound seniors should not be forgotten. We serve 1200 recipients each weekday with 130 volunteers. Funds donated help us purchase food that is freshly cooked at our facility each weekday then delivered to the recipients’ homes. Mobile Meals is not a government agency. Our organization depends on the generosity of the community for financial support and the service from faithful volunteers. Those who deliver meals range from children with a parent, seniors with a friend or businesses with a co-worker. We have a place for everyone! If you have family or friends who have thought about delivering, but don’t know what to do, please have them call Mobile Meals — we would love to have them. MEET BEN VAUGHN MECHANICAL ENGINEER AND INFORMATION MANAGER AT MICHELIN Ben grew up in Greenville and attended Greenville County Schools. Ben remembers going on a BMW plant tour at the age of 7 and how that sparked his interest in how things work.

He remembers coming to Roper Mountain Science Center for school field trips at an early age, but his experiences in the summer camp program “were some of the most formative experiences and set the course of my life. Those experiences have done more to determine the course of my career than anything I ever learned in school.” His mother heard about summer camps at Roper Mountain and brought home the Summer Camp Guide one day for Ben to look at it. He says, “it felt like Christmas; looking through the catalog knowing I could choose anything I wanted.” He remembers taking every class about model rocketry that he could. He learned about building and crafting things – how important it was to craft a rocket to make it faster and better than everyone else’s.

At the time, he didn’t realize how much those experiences were impacting his future career choices. As a mechanical engineering student at Clemson, and later as a design engineer at Michelin, he traces his success back to what he learned at Roper Mountain, “The critical thinking skills I learned at Roper Mountain - how to think systematically and how to break down problems into simple steps - they laid the foundation for my future success in engineering.”

CLIFFS RESIDENTS OUTREACH has worked with and mentored students from early childhood through college. One of our students, a junior in high school was responsible for her two younger siblings. Her father has not played a role in her life since she was 3. Her mother is dealing with substance abuse issues. She is taking 4 AP classes and working 2 jobs to support her siblings, pay rent and utilities and on top of all of this has had to move 3 times during her junior year. Her resilience, tenacity and positive attitude are inspirational. CRO is comprised of five CRO Communities which represent the Cliffs’ Communities of Glassy, Valley & Mt. Park, Keowee Vineyards, Keowee Falls & Keowee Springs. Representatives from each of these CRO Communities serve as Directors of the CRO Corporate Board. Each CRO Community has a volunteer Advisory Council which works independently to support the needs of their local schools through fundraising and volunteering, all aligning with one consistent mission – enabling Upstate children to succeed.

COME FIRST Mission: To provide resources to regional children that promotes opportunities for lifelong success. Founded in 2007, CRO focuses on education and human services through literacy, nutrition and mentoring. Serving 3 counties (Greenville, Oconee and Pickens), CRO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is a 100% volunteer organization with over 600 volunteers from all 6 of the South Carolina Cliffs Communities, who volunteered over 22,000 hours in 2018, impacting over 7,000 children in the Upstate. CRO raised over $3.5 million from residents and corporate partners in the last 10 years, benefiting these children. In 2018 alone, over $600,000 was raised, spending less than 2% of revenues for overhead and less than 10% for fundraising. CRO volunteers tutor, mentor, provide crisis funding, technology, field trip sponsorship, nutrition through back pack programs, and parent programs at 2 early childhood centers, 7 elementary schools, 3 middle schools and 3 high schools and several non-profits who focus on improving the lives of children.

THORNBLADE CLUB Thornblade Club is situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the beautiful city of Greenville, South Carolina. The club was established in 1990 and designed by world renowned architect, Tom Fazio, in collaboration with PGA and Champions Tour Veteran, Jay Haas. Thornblade Club is a Par 71 course with multiple sets of tees to challenge the skill set of any golfer. The Fazio Design team is back at Thornblade in 2019 as we are doing significant renovations to our bunkers and surrounds. Thornblade selected a state-of-the-art liner system, Bunker Solutions, and a specific sand to ensure the finest conditions for our players regardless of the weather conditions. The positioning of the new bunkers will certainly add a new element of shot making to a golf course that already demands your full attention. Brushy Creek winds its way through the property, rendering beautiful scenery, and at times, precise play. Thornblade Club is certainly a golf course to be enjoyed by our youngest generation of golfers as well as the finest players in the world and everyone in between.

THE CLIFFS VALLEY Tucked into its lush namesake, The Cliffs Valley golf course follows the land’s natural contours and elevation changes, challenging members to play over and around streams, ponds and rolling hills. The temperate weather and beautiful course has created one of the most enthusiastic golf communities at The Cliffs, including The Cliffs Valley Ladies Golf Association, the largest group of female golfers in our seven communities. The Cliffs Valley course benefitted from nearly $500,000 and 15 weeks of enhancements in 2017, including a full conversion of all greens surfaces to Champion Bermudagrass, along with the addition of several unique and challenging bunkers. At The Cliffs Valley, Ben Wright’s goal was to move as little dirt as possible — an enlightened approach twenty years ago that has become the mantra of modern day course design. The course is invitingly walkable, and absolutely a joy to do so as you traverse the many stone bridges that remind us of the game’s origins. True to its name, Valley is surrounded by the mountains, steep to the north and soft to the south. The North Carolina state line is visible as it traces the northern peaks. But Valley is also park-like, where lakes and streams play into every hole. It is colorful, not only alive with flowers in spring and summer, but an explosion of color when autumn arrives.

The fact that the hills are lush and waterfalls seem to be around every corner owes to the generosity of Mother Nature. And so when the course is set deep in a valley such as this, one can expect that water is going to come into play, and at The Cliffs Valley it does on just about every hole.

The Cliffs Valley is consistently rated by our members as their favorite course, in part because of its walkability and its reputation for being playable virtually every day of the year, which members absolutely do. This is a rich golf experience in every aspect of the game, from the golf shop to the range and surely to a classic clubhouse. At The Cliffs Valley, architect Ben Wright absolutely got it right. Course Details: Tee to green ranges from 6,176 – 7,050 yards at the tips and challenges are presented in surprising ways, not the least of which is water. Par is 72 and if that number is to be achieved at any of The Cliffs seven courses, it’s likely here. Depending on your tee box, ranges from 69.3 – 73.5 and the slope 122.0 – 131.0. A parkland-style course with impeccably maintained Bermudagrass tees and fairways and champion ultra-dwarf Bermuda greens. Course designer is Ben Wright, Emmy and Peabody award-winning golf commentator. The Cliffs Valley debuted with honors from Golf Digest, garnering a Best New Courses Award.
