Minutes of the January 19, 2019 Business Meeting of the BMW Riders of Western Colorado, Inc. The meeting was called to order by Presidents Mary and Paul Hughes at 10:00. There were seven members present. President Mary Hughes thanked the previous officers, Monte Potter and Dwayne Hall for their service to the club. Mary also thanked Gary Campbell and Jeff Smith for continuing as Treasurer and Secretary/Editor. Mary was pleasantly surprised by receiving the Roger Grudt award. Officers reports; Treasurer Gary Campbell was camping in Arizona but reported the bank balance as $6493.47. Secretary Jeff Smith gave Monte membership checks for seven renewing members and one member pin totaling $111.00. Monte has deposited the checks into our bank account. Jeff also gave the member pin that Orrin Beckner had ordered for Margaret to Joe Branson to give to her. Margaret is home recovering from recent knee replacement surgery. Mary will send a card from the club. Rally; Jeff Smith has submitted ads for the 16th Thunder Mountain Rendezvous to both the BMW Owners News and the BMW Riders Association On The Level magazines. The ads were included in the November newsletter for comment. Paul and Mary will be out of town for the rally having made reservations in Yellowstone. Mary and Paul will be sorely missed at the rally and members will need to help out in the absence of their organizational and cooking skills. Vice President Randy Schwartz brought an email from Pat Jacques about her proposal for an adventure riding class coinciding with the rally. The group reviewed the proposal and discussed issues surrounding it. Joe Branson expressed his support for allowing a mixed gender class. Joe had investigated the possibility of motorcycle events at the Fairgrounds when he was rally master and was rebuffed by Les. Discussion included whether to require class participants to attend the rally, if the class was offsite. No decisions were made, but the group was supportive of the concept. Mary Hughes will act as the contact person for Pat Jacques. They will work out details to present to the group. New Business; OOT (Out of Town) meetings were discussed with Paul reporting that he will arrange for the August meeting. Mary asked members to propose rides to meeting locations. Joe Branson volunteered a “Bean Soup Ride� to the Rest Area along Highway 141 near Gateway. A ride to Dinosaur, the Moab Car Show April 27, and the Palisade Vintage Motorcycle Show June 1 were added to the calendar. Dwayne suggested the best riding season in Colorado is Spring! Monte Potter suggested that a business meeting agenda could be sent out a week before the meeting to allow members who could not ride to an OOT time to comment on club business.
