NOVEMBER 2018

Minutes of the November 17, 2018 Business Meeting of the BMW Riders of Western Colorado, Inc. The meeting was called to order by President Monte Potter at 10:00. There were 9 members present. Officers reports; Treasurer Gary Campbell reported the bank balance to be $6616.09. He confirmed that we have received our deposit back from Delta County and the only outstanding debt is for half of the set of tires we gave away at the Thunder Mountain Rendezvous. Gary also gave Secretary Jeff Smith a check for newsletter expenses. Secretary Jeff Smith brought the new BMW Owners of America club charter certificate and replaced last year's in the existing frame in the BMW Club corner at Grand Junction BMW, after the meeting. Old business; The Christmas party on Saturday December 8, was discussed. Orrin asked a couple of club members to arrive around 5:30 to help set up. Members should bring a side dish to accompany ham and/or beef brisket and their own beverage. Gary suggested the club invite Traci to the party. The Nominating committee worked diligently and persuasively to recruit officers for 2019. Gary Campbell has agreed to return as Treasurer and Jeff Smith as Secretary/Editor. Randy Schwartz has stepped up to run for Vice-President, and in an unprecedented development, Paul and Mary Hughes have thrown their hat into the ring as Co-Presidents, with the stipulation that the May through October business meetings will be held out of town on a ride. They want the club to be more of a riding club. The ballot for this slate of officers is included in this newsletter. It may be returned by mail or brought to the Christmas party. New Business; The 2019 rally was discussed. Kerry Dolan volunteered to return as rally master, and September 20, 21, 22, 2019 were selected as the dates of the rally. Kerry will contact Les to reserve the Delta County Fairgrounds for our event. The group discussed Pat Jacques’ proposal to offer a woman’s adventure riding class in conjunction with our rally. Joe Branson expressed concern that the event should be open to men as well as women. Now that the club has committed to holding the 2019 rally, the details of Pat’s proposal can be worked out. President Monte Potter brought up the Club’s commitment to motorcycle safety and the lack of any concrete action by the club over the past year. He and Terry Toner have talked to Colorado West Outdoor Advertising about a digital motorcycle safety billboard. The details remain to be worked out but a digital motorcycle safety message sounded like a good idea to the group. Respectfully submitted, Jeff Smith Secretary/Editor New Motorcycle Rental Business in Grand Junction Motodiscoveryrentals is an adventure motorcycle rental company recently opened in Grand Junction Colorado.
