Minutes of the May 21, 2016 Business Meeting BMW Riders of Western Colorado Inc. President Brad Hoy called the meeting to order at 9:00. There were six members and one guest present. Officer’s Reports: Treasurer Orrin Beckner was driving his side by side on Sawmill Mesa SW of Delta. Orrin sent his report with Jeff. Orrin reported a bank balance of $4495.61 and a net income for the year of $327.11. Secretary Jeff Smith submitted a bill for his expenses including 6 member pins mailed to members, 250 Club stickers, filing the annual report with the Secretary of State, mailing 15 Club stickers, and two months of newsletter costs totaling $378.32. This adjusts our year to date income to a net loss of $51.21, and a bank balance of approximately $4117.29. Jeff reports that the club now has 30 members. The group discussed the location for the July social. Since it corresponds with the United Sidecar Association rally in Hotchkiss the club will ride there for dinner Thursday July 7. Rally: Gary Campbell has produced excellent route maps with descriptions for the rally. The maps are photo reproductions of road maps with the route highlighted and a description of the route on the back. They are 4” x 6”, printed on photo paper, and they cost around 9 cents each, very nice. Gary plans to have someone from the Alaska ride give a short presentation before the movie Friday night. On Saturday he has arranged for Milan Haase to give a talk about riding in South America. A movie will follow Milan’s presentation. Jeff brought three rally entries to the Sipapu Rally in New Mexico that the Land of Enchantment riders had given our club as door prizes to be given away at our rally in June of this year. But because our rally is now in September, and two weeks after the Sipapu rally, what could we do to distribute the three entries. After discussion, the entries were given to Dana Williams to be given as door prizes at the United Sidecar Association National rally in Hotchkiss in July. The Land Of Enchantment BMW Riders also sent a single entry to the 2017 rally with a request for reciprocation. This entry will be a door prize at our rally this year. In response to the LOE BMW Riders request, Jeff will send two entries to them to be given away this year at their rally September 9-11. Orrin has applied for rally insurance through BMW MOA at a cost of $400. New business: Also attending the meeting was Cindy Robbins from Granby CO. Cindy told the group about the Adventure Woman rally in Granby July 22-24. The event will be held at the Flying Heels Rodeo Arena in Granby across from City Market. “A Story Worth Living” Well, there still remains an opportunity to make a great movie about adventure motorcycle riding around the Colorado backcountry. The movie “A Story Worth Living” was hyped as ADVENTURE MOTORCYCLING but was heavy on Christian bonding adventures. Overall I came away feeling like I was entertained but it wasn’t what I expected.

BMW Rallies and Coming events 16th Annual Red Rock Rendezvous Rally June 16-19 Held in Panguitch, Utah, gateway to Utah’s Color Country. Day rides to Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, and Grand Canyon National Parks, plus Grand Staircase-Escalante and Cedar Breaks National Monuments. There are an additional 10 State Parks within one-half to two hours riding. 45th Annual Top O’ the Rockies Rally Please join us July 21 - 24 in the small town of Paonia Colorado for the rally that offers something for everybody. Our low elevation venue includes a large meeting hall, restrooms with showers, plenty of grassy camping and the convenience of walking to downtown restaurants, stores and motels. Your rally fee of $40 before (Aug 15),$50 at the gate, gets you dinner Friday and Saturday nights, H.S. Alaska 2016 Member Mark Lickers is leading the planning of the Alaskan adventure this summer. Between four and six members are making the journey. They plan to leave June 11 and head toward the border at Roosville BC and continue on through Banff and Jasper Parks. Then turning West through Prince George and then up the Cassiar Highway to Watson Lake. Mark has accommodations in Haines Alaska and that’s the initial destination. Several members may return on the Ferry to Prince Rupert.
