MAY 2018

Minutes of the May 19, 2018 Business Meeting BMW Riders of Western Colorado Inc. The meeting was called to order by President Monte Potter at 9:02. There were 12 members present. Officers reports: Treasurer Gary Campbell passed around the check register and bank balance statement showing funds totaling $6329.25. Notable expenditures include a $200 deposit for the rally paid to Delta County. Secretary Jeff Smith reported the club has 34 members. The Vintage Motorcycle show in Palisade was discussed with members expressing support for a club ride to breakfast before the event. The group decided to meet at the new gas station at Exit 42 in Palisade at 8am and ride to the Wagon Wheel restaurant in Mesa for breakfast before the Vintage show. Rally:Jeff received a request from RJ Mirabal of the LOEBMW Riders club to donate two rally entries for the Thunder Mountain Rendezvous as door prizes. Their rally, the Bavarian Mountain Weekend in Sipapu NM is in September just before our rally. He included two gift certificates for their 2019 rally for us to give away as door prizes. Jeff was directed to send two certificates. The group discussed giving rally gift certificates to two BMW clubs a long distance from Western Colorado to attract some new riders to our rally. A motion was MSP to have Gary Campbell select two clubs and send them two rally entries each. Terry Toner was unable to get a better deal for insurance than what the MOA offers. Gary Campbell will contact the MOA and buy rally insurance. Rally food was discussed. Zack’s price was not competitive with Sam’s. The group decided on serving both pulled pork and beef brisket sandwiches with potato salad, a second side, and dessert for the Saturday night dinner. Rally Master Kerry Dolan spoke to the group about Paul and Mary’s sausage as being part of the Friday night meal. The details of the Friday meal are still in flux. Club rides were discussed with rides to Steamboat, Riverside Wyoming, and Encampment Wyoming drawing interest from the group. See the proposed ride on the next page. Randy Schwartz introduced Jim Ellis to the group. Jim recently moved to GJ from Glenwood. Welcome Jim. The meeting was adjourned at 9:50. Three members rode to Norwood for lunch. Respectfully submitted, Jeff Smith

MAY 2018 Club Ride Proposal Date: Weekend of June 9-10 Monte Potter

Options: 1. Club has held successful (fun) over night rides over the last several years. 2 trips to Salida via old railroad grades returning via old wagon roads to Taylor Park. One led by Gary through central and Southern Utah, and the most recent trip led by Dwayne (running on empty) Hall to South Fork via Lake City and Creede, with a return via gravel roads to Hwy 114 and Gunnison. These were memorable trips, enjoyed by all who participated. I'm suggesting a ride North, breakfast at Meeker, then on to Baggs-Riverside WY, stopping for the evening at Walden CO. This would be about 300 miles, and 6 hours riding time. Should be plenty of time for stops at scenic points, and etc. Several Motels appear to be available, at least a couple of restaurants exist, and it would appear that adult beverages can be had. Return would allow both road and Gs routes. Those desiring pavement could go Steamboat/Craig/Rifle (300 mi, 5.5 hours. Or, via Silverthorne and I-70 (230 mi, 4 hours) Gs types could cross Flat Tops through Buford to Meeker, Rifle, I-70 (254 mi, 6-7 hours) If a two day ride is not desired, we could do a group ride to Steamboat via 20 mile road, have lunch, and return via several options. Dwayne let a nice return last year via some gravel passing an interesting Indian vs Cavalry battle site. Pavement riders would have several good options. I'm not sure of the number of riders it would take to "make" the two day ride. It is more fun with more riders. Please let me know potter_monte@hotmail.com if you are interested in either of these rides. If numbers warrant, we can do more research on motel reservations, and etc.
