OJCF Legacy Society Honorees Steve and Elaine Kantor Steve Kantor, JD, CPA, a native Portlander, started his career 40 years ago in accounting, where he specialized in business, estate and gift taxes and earned his CPA designation. In 1979, Steve moved to the local law firm of Samuels Samuels & Yoelin, now known as Samuels Yoelin Kantor LLP, where he has devoted his entire legal career. Steve specializes in estate planning, trusts, taxation, charitable planning, business entities, trust and estate administration, real estate and general business.

Throughout his career, with Elaine, his life partner and inspiration by his side, Steve has placed a strong emphasis in professional and community organizations. He is the past Chair of the Estate Planning and Administration Section of the Oregon State Bar, past Chair of the OSB Joint CPA Committee, Chair of the Title Insurance Subcommittee of the Oregon State Bar, and past member of a number of OSB standing committees. Steve is the recipient of an OSB President’s Award and the OSCPA Speaker of the Year Award. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association, has been designated by his peers as a “Superlawyer” and has been voted by his peers as one of the “Best lawyers in America,” who designated Steve “Lawyer of the Year” in taxation for 2016. Steve is the Chair Elect of the Estate Planning Council of Portland. He is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Council and has been recognized by Portland Monthly Magazine as a “5 Star Wealth Manager.” The American Lawyer Magazine has designated Steve as a Top Rated Lawyer in Trust & Estates.
On the community side, Steve has served on the boards of B’nai B’rith, Jewish Federation, Mittleman Jewish Community Center, Nature Conservancy and the Leonard and Lois Schnitzer Charitable Supporting Foundation of OJCF. He has served on committees for Congregation Beth Israel, Robison Jewish Home, University of Oregon Foundation and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Institute. Steve was a recipient of both the JWB and CJF Young Leadership Awards. He is a past President of Jewish Family & Child Service, and he was one of the founders of and a past President of the Oregon Jewish Community Foundation. Steve served as President of Ronald McDonald House Charities, and is a recipient of their Hall of Fame Award. He is currently a member of the B’nai B’rith Men’s Camp Association Board of Trustees, and was designated by BBMCA as their “Man of the Year.” The one recognition, however, that Steve holds in highest regard is his recognition as the Friendliest Man in the 1967 graduating class of Sunset High School.
