Dear Member, We are making some important changes with this issue of our Membership Resource Guide that we wish to share with you. You will notice that this issue does not include a directory of membership or a listing of specialists by city. We have now moved this critical resource for you onto our “Members Only” section of our website. Our Membership Committee and the Executive Council gave this change significant thought and solicited feedback from some of you in that process. Here are the reasons for the change: • The printed Membership Directory was out-of-date before it even got off the press. Members move, change practices and forget to update the Dental Society. By being online, we will now be able to update the membership and specialty listing every quarter and add it to the online directory. This will ensure you will be able to access the most current membership information each time you go online. • Our website was converted to a mobile phone friendly format a year ago. This will allow you to access the membership listing through your telephone or other mobile device whenever and wherever you need it. • With an online directory, we no longer have the page constraints associated with a printed version. Our new directory will list multiple offices locations for our members and specialists. We will no longer be confined to one listing for each member and specialist. We believe this will be particularly valuable for our specialist members who may have offices in various geographic locations. • Finally, please know that the information that appears in this online directory is drawn directly from the American Dental Association’s membership database. If you see an error in your listing, we can update that for you; and, it will automatically update the ADA and the WSDA. We are excited about this change. By harnessing technology, we believe you will have the most current membership information literally at your fingertips and through your mobile telephone. That said, we recognize the value of much of the reference material that existed in the former Membership Directory. So, included in this publication, you will still find information about the reduced cost dental clinics in King County, the leadership of the Dental Society and Foundation, your membership benefits, upcoming continuing dental education classes and so much more. We welcome your feedback and suggestions in regards to this change and hope it benefits you and your practice. 4 l 2017-2018 SKCDS RESOURCE GUIDE

Find contractors you can trust. Join the Home Owners Club® and you'll gain access to a trusted group of carefully screened contractors who can help with virtually any upkeep, repair or remodeling need you may have. Whether it's a small repair job, ongoing maintenance, a major project or an unexpected emergency, one call to the Club is all it takes to find a contractor who'll perform good work at fair prices. Guaranteed! Unlike other contractor referral services, HOC is a membership organization for homeowners. The contractors the Club dispatches are not employed by HOC, and they don't pay for listings or referrals. They're independent businesses that have proven time and again they can provide the service and workmanship Club members demand. Since 1959, Seattle-area property owners have trusted the Home Owners Club for quality workmanship and fair prices. Almost 50 years later – and after successfully completing more than a quarter-million jobs – the Better Business Bureau records still show no unresolved complaints. If you're looking for a better way to care for your home and/or office, do what more than 15,000 other homeowners have done – become a member of the Home Owners Club. Membership in the Club costs just $60 per year. Additional residential or commercial properties you own may be added for $10 each.

Why support our work

We continue to support organizations that provide dental care to the most vulnerable among us.

Top 15 Mistakes Employers Make that Lead to Litigation With attorney Bob Howie The Bellevue Sheraton Hotel, 100 112th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98004 The United State is a litigious society and employers are frequently the targets of workplace lawsuits. Such things as workplace injuries, sexual harassment, discrimination and wrongful termination can burden your practice and take the focus off your real job – serving your patients. This lecture, “Top 15 Mistakes Employers Make that Lead to Litigation,” is a 90 minute review of the most common ways in which employers create risk and leave themselves vulnerable to claims and lawsuits by current and former employees. Participants will learn how to avoid these mistakes and improve the way they manage their work force. About our presenter... Bob Howie is a partner with the law firm of Fox Rothschild LLP in Seattle. He advises businesses on a wide range of employment issues such as guiding employers on discrimination, harassment, wrongful discharge, wage/ hour compliance, leaves of absence, disability accommodation, WISHA compliance, affirmative action compliance and many other workplace issues. Bob helps his clients comply with federal, state and local labor and employment laws by reviewing handbooks and employer policies, as well as conducting internal audits and investigations. He also presents highly entertaining and interactive seminars and training classes for managers and non-managers alike regarding myriad workplace issues. Bob represents companies in a wide array of industries, including aerospace, hospitality and restaurant, financial institutions, health care, manufacturing, utilities, real estate, construction, telecommunications, technology and nonprofit organizations. He attended Washington and Lee University School of Law (J.D., summa cum laude, 1993) and was named among the Washington Super Lawyers in Labor and Employment Law (2003-2017).
