Dear Producers,
The Livestock Merchandising Class at North Carolina State University will be holding its 11th Annual Wolfpack Roundup Sale on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 1 pm. An educational program will start at 10 am and consist of research updates, presentations on reproductive technologies and bale grazing, and sale updates. Lunch will be served at 12 pm.
The Livestock Merchandising class is responsible for the organization, preparations and running of the Wolfpack Round Up sale. The class was started to give students the opportunity to learn about different methods available to merchandise livestock. Students also gain hands-on experience through promoting and conducting a livestock auction. You can get to know our 2024 Livestock Merchandising class on the following pages and meet them in-person on sale day. This year’s class has taken on the challenge of hosting the largest Wolfpack Round Up sale to date.
For those that cannot attend in person, we will be showing the sale via Facebook live. You can call one of the phone numbers below by Friday, April 12th and we will make arrangements for you to bid on the animal(s) of your choice on sale day. You can also leave us with a bid and we will take care of you. Check our Facebook page (link on the information page) for updates.
If you would like to view the sale offerings before sale day, you can contact the respective Educational Unit representatives to make an appointment to visit.

2024 NCSU Livestock Merchandising Class
Alivia Carl
Coming from a non-agricultural background, this class has allowed me to have actual experience with livestock and gain a better understanding of many of the intricacies of livestock merchandising.
Madison Gosnell
I am a senior studying Animal Science set to graduate this spring. After graduating, I will work at a small animal veterinary hospital in Charlotte and work on my application for Veterinary School.
Carter Hamilton
I love all that marketing these animals has to offer, but with the inclusion of marketing lambs, I felt this class had valuable information for me in the world of sheep.
Lauren Howard
This class has shown me the many different sides of marketing and merchandising, as well as giving hands on experience I had never had before.
Duncan McSorley
Being an employee at the beef unit, I wanted to extend my experience even further into the marketing side of the livestock industry. I’ve gained a lot of insight in this class that I plan to take with me into my career.
Brazil Perrine-Rollins
I took this class to gain more experience with livestock specifically cattle and to learn more about the industry.
Mason Carpenter
I took this class because I wanted to learn more about livestock sales and what goes into marketing livestock more effectively.
Erin Medlock
I am taking this class to learn a part of the livestock industry that I have never been introduced to. I am taught useful applications of marketing that could be beneficial to my future plans.
David Wesson
I enrolled in merchandising to learn how to effectively market cattle, whether that be commercial or seedstock and the different market types for them to be sold in.
Emma Lewis
I took this class to further my understanding of the livestock industry. This class has taught me so many useful things and given me plenty of experience that I will be able to utilize in my future career.
Tea Turner
I chose to take this class to expand my knowledge on the livestock industry. I feel like this will allow me to connect better with my clients in my future jobs.
Gaby Culler
I’ve learned how to effectively market and merchandise clothing and textiles through my concentration, so I thought how cool it would be to learn how to merchandise livestock as well. Many would guess that they’re two very different worlds, however, there is one thing I’ve learned that stays the same no matter where or what you’re marketing to: know your audience and target them!
Kaley Kiser
I took this class to help gain a better understanding of how merchandising livestock works. I hope to take the information and use it to help my future clients make marketing decisions on the animals they plan to sell or buy.
Olivia Mabe
I took this class because although I probably won’t go into marketing as my career, I find it very important to be knowledgeable on market trends as a livestock veterinarian. This way, you can better understand and relate to clients so you can help them make the best choices for their animals.
Wil Haines
I decided to take this class because I wanted to learn how to maximize my profits by increasing the value of my cattle and the revenue generated from sales. This class was also beneficial as I am an employee at the NCSU Beef Unit and am interested in beef cattle sales.

Thank you!
Gary Gregory
With the release of the 11th Annual Wolfpack Round Up catalog, we would like to take just a moment to thank the founder of the Livestock Merchandising class and the Wolfpack Round Up sale, Gary Gregory. Gary recognized the needs of the NC State Students and had a vision of how to build a class to specifically meet them. Even after retirement, Gary continues to play a critical role at the NC State E. Carroll Joyner Beef Education Unit working with students and labs. There are not enough words to describe the impact that Gary has had and continues to have on helping students achieve their goals. From the countless students Gary has mentored, we say THANK YOU !

A tremendous PVF Insight daughter that has worked in both the Angus and Balancer program here at the Beef Unit, her 2021 daughter was the Champion AOB at the Carolina Classic. 42F is a direct daughter of the 311-donor cow that is the matriarch of the most prominent Angus cow family on the place. This one is really hard to let go of, but with multiple daughters in production and our commitment to providing the highest quality sale offering our loss will be your gain.

Another direct 311 daughter that is huge ribbed deep bodied and extra stout. We think a lot of this young cow and truly believe that she has a productive career ahead of her making fancy replacement heifers and profitable sons. Her 2021 daughter is by far our favorite Angus two year old, raising a huge heifer calf. 47G’s yearling daughter 66K sells as part of a great set of Baldy females later in the sale. Don’t miss the opportunity to buy the factory that made that possible.

Bid with confidence on a proven cow that hasn’t missed, her first two Angus calves both had a weaning weight ratio over 104. Since then, she’s had a big impact in our cross bred program turning in three more calves that have helped push the scales down at weaning. With the current calf market, don’t miss the opportunity to buy one that generates the easy to sell calves.
