MEET THE CAST Academic Advisors – The School of Communication provides one-onone individual advising appointments to all declared COM majors who have completed more than 24 credit hours. Advising provides students with the tools they need to be successful throughout the college process by answering frequently asked questions, providing useful forms, reviewing sample plans of study, major checklists and much more.

Lambda Pi Eta – LPH is a

communication honors society for students who are academically exceptional and is dedicated to helping students in communication flourish and succeed. The organization helps facilitate greater awareness of graduate program opportunities, as well as facilitating student-faculty interaction.

PRSSA – The Illinois State University Chapter of PRSSA is an awardwinning, nationally recognized registered student organization. As part of the preeminent organization for students interested in public relations, they seek to provide their members with opportunities that will further their professional and personal development, as well as serve the public relations profession.

The Association for Women in Communications – The AWC

Student Chapter is a subset of the national organization that champions the advancement of women across communication disciplines and provides professional development opportunities. AWC recognizes excellence, promotes leadership and positions its members at the forefront of the evolving communication era. Student members benefit from a local professional network, involvement in the community, access to professional mentors, civic engagement and job shadowing opportunities. The AWC student chapter is open to all students at Illinois State University.

SMACC – The School of Communication launched the state-of-the-art Social Media Analytics Command Center (SMACC) on the second floor of Fell Hall. The SMACC is a 600-square-foot facility dedicated to studying social media analytics and strategy that serves as a classroom, research laboratory, media war room and consultation studio. Students, faculty, and researchers use the SMACC to identify public conversation from major and social media platforms, popular discussion forums and major blogs. The SoC is developing curriculum and programming that utilize the SMACC’s capabilities to enhance the social media skill sets of our majors in communication studies, journalism, mass media and public relations.

Forensics Union – The Forensics Union is Illinois State University’s Speech and Debate Team. They are a nationally recognized forensics team with over 80 individual titles in its history. Forensics offers Lincoln-Douglas Policy debate, as well as individual speaking events competition in interpretation, public speaking and limited preparation genres. In addition, members of Illinois State Forensics have the opportunity to travel across the nation. 1


MEET THE CAST Study Abroad – Study Abroad’s mission is to provide high quality international education programs to Illinois State Students by serving as a liaison between the university community and learning opportunities abroad. Our education abroad programs are designed to be diverse and affordable while cultivating student’s critical thought, intellectual and social growth, as well as fostering development as a global citizen. The SoC offers study abroad programs in: • Paris, France • Netherlands • Brazil • South Korea

The Vidette – The Vidette is Illinois State University’s official student run publication. Students are entirely responsible for the content provided in both paper and online formats. The Vidette is a member of the Associated College Press and the Illinois College Press Association. The Vidette provides Illinois State University students with professional work experience and serves as the university community’s daily newspaper. The Vidette is dedicated to the pursuit of truth, excellence and providing its readers with the knowledge they deserve. WGLT – WGLT is a public broadcasting organization and National Public Radio affiliate that is a unit of the School of Communication. WGLT prides itself on this partnership and its role as one of the University’s most important points of contact with the Bloomington-Normal community. WGLT is nationally recognized for its commitment to local news reporting, and offers diverse programming on multiple platforms (including 89.1 FM, WGLT.org, and various social media channels) for a growing audience. WGLT builds lifelong relationships by providing a valuable service to its customers, listeners, underwriters and the community.

TV10 – TV-10 is a real working newsroom serving BloomingtonNormal. TV-10 is the only TV newscast that covers the Twin Cities exclusively, and it’s been that way for more than 40 years. Students work as photographers, reporters, producers, and anchors. They write stories, create the graphics and produce the weather forecast. All of this is done under the guidance of faculty and staff who have all worked professionally in broadcast television. WZND – WZND’s mission is to provide practical experience and training for all ISU students interested in the radio broadcasting industry and related industries and to provide a radio broadcast service to the ISU student body, citizens of Bloomington/Normal and listeners of the World Wide Web.
