FEATURED FILM

Elevator to the Gallows, Louis Malle’s 1958 directorial debut feature film, is a crime- thrillernoir set in Paris following events that unfold within one day. Inspired by directors Alfred Hitchcock and Robert Bresson, Malle opens the film with a phone call between Julien (Maurice Ronet) and Florence (Jeanne Moreau) as they plot to kill her husband in order to be together and, through this action alone, accidentally set off a complex storyline of their plot interwoven with one focused on a young couple. In the role that propelled her to stardom, Jeanne Moreau, who was previously regarded as “unphotogenic”, shines in a minimal makeup look through her quiet and captivating performance as she walks around Paris all night looking for her lover as Miles Davis’s “historic” score plays in the background. Between the use of quick cuts, orchestrated camera movement, and natural lighting, Elevator the Gallows became an inspiration for the French New Wave, a groundbreaking era that transformed cinema. Elevator to the Gallows has a run time of 91 minutes and is available to stream on both Max and (free with ads on) Plex. 3

-Elizabeth Wildes, All The Film Things

Old Hollywood is iconic. It means everything to me. The stars before social media had to put in the work! Thus, making it no surprise that the films, acting, fashion, PR,etc. is a million times better than modern Hollywood. Not to mention, the ladies and gentlemen of Old Hollywood were known worldwide BEFORE social media. That’s iconic, a lot of “stars” in today’s society could never do that, well… except for Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, Drake and other greats who have reached over 1B streams and views of course!

CLASSIC HOLLYWOOD

Top 5 Iconic Women

1.Eartha Kitt What’s the definition of longevity? Ms. Eartha Kitt of course! From “Cat Woman” to “Emperors New Groove,” the icon has seen many come and go! Her fierce, feminine, feline energy forced the CIA to build a case on her, just so they can have an excuse to admire her!

5

2.Marilyn Monroe Just like Nicki Minaj, Marilyn Monroe is the star in any room she stands in! Often imitated, but never duplicated, Marilyn Monroe is undisputedly one of the most iconic sex symbols of all time!

6

3.Jayne Mansfield

7

Often referred to as the “other blonde,” Jayne Mansfield sex appeal opened doors for her that her high IQ couldn’t! Make no mistake, Jayne may have been inspired by Marilyn but she made a name for herself with her scandalous PR stunts, which kept her name in the media even after her tragic death!

4.SOPHIA LOREN

She’s Sophia Loren. Need I say more? The Latin babe opened doors for latino women in Hollywood. Quiet as it’s kept, without her impact, we wouldn’t have Latino women like Alexa Demie, Jennifer Lopez, and Cardi B dominating pop culture! 8

AND THEN IT HIT ME 5.DOROTHY DANDRIDGE

Ladies and gentlemen, here’s the FIRST black woman to be nominated for an Academy award for ‘‘Best Actress.” The Hollywood starlet made a name for herself with her beauty and sex appeal. When she’s on screen, you’ll find yourself watching her instead of scrolling through your phone! That says alot! 9
