New Facilities, Amenities coming to Lake Lytal Park YMCA of the Palm Beaches (YMCA) has finalized an agreement with the Palm Beach County (PBC) Board of County Commissioners that authorizes the YMCA to lease approximately five acres in Lake Lytal Park from the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department (PBC Parks) for 50 years with one 50-year extension option. The partnership will bring new facilities, amenities, and improvements to Lake Lytal Park, located at 3645 Gun Club Road in West Palm Beach.

• Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar, a casual dining restaurant known for its handcrafted American food and drink, is celebrating all parents this Mother’s Day and Father’s Day by supporting Baby2Baby’s mission by providing diapers, clothing and the basic necessities to children living in poverty.

• A Florida Atlantic University management major who wants to create a company offering restaurant-quality healthy meals from a vending machine won the $10,000 first prize in the 14th annual Business Pitch Competition held by FAU’s College of Business and the Adams Center for Entrepreneurship.

• Boca Helping Hands (BHH) received more than 1,400 pounds of food from Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers, a scratch kitchen in West Boca Raton that makes each meal fresh. When the restaurant closed in observance of Passover, it was left with a large amount of food that would otherwise go to waste. Boca Helping Hands picked up the food on Friday, April 15, offering it to those in need of a meal.

• B’nai Torah Congregation is hosting an important and meaningful Yom HaShoah event that will include a procession of survivors, hidden children, liberators, and survivors’ children/grandchildren, followed by a Yom HaShoah service with guest speaker Dr. Peter Hayes and a candle lighting ceremony.

• The Leon Charney Diplomacy Program at Florida Atlantic University recently competed in the annual diplomacy competition in New York City. The program received two Outstanding Delegation and nine Best Delegate in Committee awards, finishing first overall out of 207 competing universities.

• The Fuller Center Foundation hosted the 2nd Annual Legacy Polo Brunch recently to benefit under-resourced children and families. The reception and brunch was followed by the USPA Gold Cup polo match at IPC – International Polo Club Palm Beach.

“We are so pleased to donate the food to Boca Helping Hands to share our holiday with those in need,” said Rachel Stone, Ben’s Deli Director of Catering and Assistant Manager. “It does feel really good to let us extend that notion of feeding people into feeding people who are most in need of a good meal.”

Ben’s has been faithful through the years with their donations at Passover, and we always look forward to this significant assistance. Partnerships with local restaurants are vital to carrying out our mission at Boca Helping Hands.”

“Surging food prices and supply chain issues are affecting all areas of our hunger relief programs. We’re purchasing food to subsidize our decreased inventory, and wholesale prices have increased,” said Greg Hazle, BHH Executive Director. “With increased prices, our client’s dollar stretches less at the grocery store, so they have to rely on us more. Unfortunately, that means Boca Helping Hands has to buy more food at a higher cost.”

Coco’s Story is Serving as Encouragement to Local Girls Until her grandmother dragged her to the Pompey Park gymnasium recently, Sheryl Malone knew very little about tennis superstar Cori “Coco” Gauff.

“I heard people talking about this young girl who played tennis, but I didn’t know anything more about her, … who she was or where she was from,” the Delray Beach teenager said after meeting the teen champ. “But after what I heard today, she is definitely a good role model and one day, I would like to be just like her.”

Malone,14, was among about 130 family, friends and fans who attended Gauff ’s “Welcome home from Wimbledon” celebration inside the gym Saturday evening. The event, which was also attended by Delray Beach Mayor Shelly Petrolia, Deputy Vice Mayor Bill Bathurst, City Commissioner Ryan Boylston and Chief of Police Javaro Sims, was moved indoors at the last minute because of what Gauff ’s aunt, Joi Odom, called “liquid sunshine.”

As I scanned the gymnasium, I counted less than 40 young girls under the age of 17. I think that gymnasium should have been packed considering what she represents to

young people in her hometown.

“Coco is a huge role model for girls her age and younger. She is showing us girls that anything is possible if we put our minds to it,” said Asianna Livingston, 15, of Delray Beach. “My peers … wish they can be like her because she has accomplished so much at a young age, and the City of Delray Beach is really proud of her.”

While visiting Pompey Park recently, I noticed Gauff was speaking to her grandpa, Eddie “Red” Odom, via FaceTime from England.

He was telling her how proud he was after she began generating front-page stories and international buzz as the youngest competitor to qualify for the Wimbledon Tennis Championships since 1991.

Several kids were holding court around him and asking, “Is that the real Coco?”

(Coincidentally, the baseball fields at Pompey Park are named after Odom and are just feet away from the clay tennis courts where Gauff grew up training and the same courts where Venus and her sister Serena Williams spent their formative tween years practicing in the 1990s.)

It was then that it dawned on me that these kids, whom I am certain did not see the match, were witnessing a historic moment. Only days earlier, the 15-year-old had knocked off her longtime hero, Venus Williams, in the first round of Wimbledon, and then beat Magdalena Rybarikova in dominating fashion, before pulling off a comeback over Polona Hercog that will live on in Wimbledon lore.

Her victory thrust the country into Cocomania.

She became an inspiration to youths all over and urged them to give their best and never give up.

“To all the young girls and boys out there, you can do whatever you want as long as you work hard and stay dedicated. The road isn’t always easy,” Coco, who has absolutely nothing to lose and whose confidence is at an alltime high, told the crowd on Saturday. “Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, not even your parents. It’s ok to be crazy sometimes. Crazy is good.”

She added: “A lot of people may say I’m crazy for dreaming so big, but I think you shouldn’t just reach for the sky when you can

reach for the stars. I think the possibilities are endless.”

She has learned not to let naysayers on social media affect her performance on the court. And even when she was down by two points, she remained focused and determined, thinking on the advice of the late football coach and principal C. Spencer Pompey, through her grandpa, “Never say die.”

I have had the privilege to see Coco off the court and away from the cameras and limelight and she is just like any other teen despite her tennis prowess.

In fact, when a reporter asked her how she plans to spend the nearly $200,000 in Wimbledon winnings, with the innocence of a child, she said, “I mean, I can’t buy a car because I don’t drive.”

She however said she may buy some hoodies.

As you listen to her, you will see that Coco is beyond the fame and gold medals. She is indeed a young woman who cares about all young girls and wants to see them succeed.

Her perseverance and positivity are exactly the kind of influence all parents should want in their daughter’s life.

Do You Know Where You Are Going?

A challenging question once posed to me was: “Where will you be when you get where you’re going?” I quickly recognized that it had much more to do than with geography only. It could entail a location but, more importantly, it related to where one will be physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, spiritually, and in other life dimensions as well.

Far too often, people only let life happen to them instead of being pro-active in attempting to shape the way things need to go and to be. Many people never measure consequences nor think of the results of their own choices and actions.

Yet, it is easy to expect that lack of purpose and of planning leads to inevitaApril 29 - May 5, 2022

ble failure. For a long time people may still move in a forward direction, based on previous impulses they had received, still maintaining motion which, unfortunately, won’t lead nowhere!

There is no need for anyone to wake up suddenly to an unpleasant new reality when a positive, enduring accomplishment could’ve been planned in advance. Unfortunately, many dreams are never realized simply because they are constantly being altered by the dreamer. You cannot reach a destination by checking in the wrong map!

The healthy challenge is for one to seize each moment, not necessarily to remain there, but to continue moving farther ahead while grasping impacting, new reali-

ties. Maintenance of the status quo will never produce satisfaction; moving in the wrong direction will never lead to the right place.

People often wake up too late to recognize that their life was wasted for lack of proper planning, and on account of gross neglect of what brings lasting results and permanent fulfilment.

Avoid inaction and illegitimate action if you wish to get somewhere. Don’t count on time alone, which may never be sufficient, or even available, nor on a future that is still so uncertain! The consequences of inaction, or of delayed action, can be destructive of life itself!

Don’t just make plans! Rather, begin to execute them as quickly as feasible; take

the necessary steps to see ideas fleshed-out, plans made concrete! Never stop in pressing on toward the mark. Forbid yourself to live aimlessly for lacking good direction! Live each new day with a clear aim, and what you desire for yourself will come to pass in far greater measure than your expectations!

Impact Fee Affordable Housing Assistance Program Palm Beach County Mayor Robert S Weinroth has announced the County’s Department of Housing & Economic Development has $2,114,290 in available Impact Fee Affordable Housing Assistance Program funding from its Fiscal Year 2021 funding cycle.

The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners authorized the utilization of County impact fee investment earnings to support the construction of affordable owner-occupied, for-sale, and rental housing in Palm Beach County.

Program policies are found within the Impact Fee Affordable Housing Assistance Program Guidelines at pbcgov.com/HED/ Pages/Impact-Fee-Affordable-HousingAssistance-Program-.aspx HED will begin accepting applications for funding on March 29, 2022 at 9AM at its offices located at 100 Australian Ave Ste 500 West Palm Beach FL 33406.

Applicants will be funded on a firstcome/first-eligible/first-served basis.

AVAILABLE FUNDING: This NOFA makes available up to $2,114,290 for the payment of the following Palm Beach County impact fees.

Road Impact Fees: Zone 1: $316,972; Zone 2: $476,423; Zone 3: $258,518; Zone 4: $273,885; Zone 5: $519,371.

Park Impact Fees: Zone 1: $23,014; Zone 2: $57,408; Zone 3: $78,176.

Public Building Impact Fees: $110,523.

ELIGIBLE COSTS: Palm Beach County Roads, Parks, and Public Building impact fees associated with the construction of affordable housing are the only costs eligible for IFAHAP funds. The requested amount may not exceed the actual Road, Park, or Public Building impact fee amount for the affordable housing project.

Applicants who have already received building permits for their projects at the time of application are not eligible for assistance under IFAHAP. The Certificate shall not be used to obtain a reimbursement of impact fees already paid, but shall only be used to offset impact fees due but not yet paid.

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS: For-profit and non-profit developer entities which seek to build affordable rental or for-sale housing units, and persons who seek to build owner-constructed housing units for owner occupancy as their principal place of residence.

PROJECT LOCATION LIMITATIONS: Projects must be located within Road Impact Fee Zones 1 through 5; Park Impact Fee Zones 1 through 3; or Public Building Impact Fee Zone. Maps of these zones are included in the application packet.

OCCUPANCY AND AFFORDABILITY REQUIREMENTS: All affordable housing units which receive assistance under the IFAHAP must be occupied by households whose incomes do not exceed one-hundred forty percent (140%) of the Area Median Income. Occupancy periods and housing unit affordability requirements are detailed in the IFAHAP Guidelines.

PROPERTY RESTRICTIONS: IFAHAP assistance and the associated affordability requirements will be secured by a Declaration of Restrictions recorded on title to the assisted property.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES: The following deadlines will be strictly adhered to: Funding awards under this NOFA must be approved by the BCC no later than March 8, 2023.

Funding is provided in the form of a Certificate of Award shall expire within two (2) years after the date of funding approval by the BCC. Applicants must obtain a certificate(s) of occupancy from the building department with jurisdiction over their projects for all assisted units and must have such units occupied by eligible individual or households as specified herein within four (4) years after the date of funding approval by the BCC. Starting A Business God’s Way (Part 2) Last week we started to explore biblical principles for starting a business.

In this edition of “Monday Manna,” we will look at three additional principles.

The fourth principle I would suggest is, “What will you provide customers that no one else provides?”

A friend was describing for me how he viewed his niche in providing retirement plans for Christian organizations. His firm has specialized in developing investment options for their clients that screen out investment opportunities that are not in alignment with biblical values. He took a product that many companies need and added to it biblically responsible investing options many Christians would prefer.

Romans 12:6 teaches, “Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly.”Just as God has given you unique gifts, He also has a unique plan for your business. Determine those gifts and use them to carve out a niche for your business.

When I was a banker, I met with hundreds of entrepreneurs. It was not uncommon when I asked how much they needed to fund their new business, to hear, “How much will you give me?” This usually meant they ether had no plan or had not taken the time necessary to fully formulate a business plan.

Kent, however, was different. He knew exactly how much it was going to cost to build his manufacturing business, when he was going to hire staff, and how much he wanted to borrow. His

plan gave me, as his lender, confidence that he might succeed – and he did.

Proverbs 21:5 teaches, “The plans of the diligent lead surely to advantage, but everyone who is hasty comes surely to poverty.” This leads to principle #5: If you’re starting a new business, develop a plan that answers the question, “How will you fund, staff, build and maintain your idea?”

In my experience, patience does not seem to be a virtue for many aspiring entrepreneurs. Once they have an idea for launching a new business, they often want to start today, even though they have not considered the optimal timing or starting their enterprise and have not yet arranged for the necessary funding to see it through to profitability.

Sometimes God gives us an idea in advance so that we can save and prepare for the future launch. When we attempt to shortcut this process, it usually results in an underfunded business or settling for a less than desirable location. Lamentations 3:25 affirms the wisdom of patiently waiting on God, both for His perfect timing and His sufficient provision.

It teaches, “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him.” When starting a new business, follow principle #6 by being prepared to answer the question, “When and where will this take place?” Be careful not to get ahead of God in the process. This will enable you to avoid considerable risk – for yourself and for your business startup.

FAU Diplomacy Program Places First in the Nation The Leon Charney Diplomacy Program at Florida Atlantic University recently competed in the annual diplomacy competition in New York City. The program received two Outstanding Delegation and nine Best Delegate in Committee awards, finishing first overall out of 207 competing universities.

FAU also came in first place at the Washington, D.C. competition in November 2021, making it the first time in the competition’s 95-year history that the same university won the national award at the Washington, D.C. and New York competitions in the same academic year.

FAU had 54 students compete in New York, joining more than 3,000 college students where schools represent countries and students step into the shoes of diplomats to solve global problems.

“I am so proud of our students and their hard work and dedication,” said Annette LaRocco, Ph.D., senior associate director of the Leon Charney Diplomacy Program. “This delegation has achieved unprecedented success thanks to their efforts throughout the year and at the competition in New York City. We are fortunate to have them represent FAU.” The Leon Charney Diplomacy Program,

which trains students in world affairs, dispute resolution and debate, was established in 1996 and is a unit of the Center for Peace, Justice & Human Rights within the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters. To date, the program has won 54 national and international awards for academic excellence and four national titles.

“This meant a lot to me because it proved I can set the stage in an international affairs arena and that the Leon Charney Program was successful in teaching me prized diplomatic skills that will help me in my future endeavors,” said Farantos Carras, a senior at FAU and member of the diplomacy team. “More importantly, I managed to make my professor proud and remind him that his influence is every student’s core strength in this competition, and this strength was shown by our entire delegation.”

In 2017, the program was named to honor the diplomatic legacy of Leon Charney, who played a key role in the 1978 Camp David Accords. Along with LaRocco, FAU professors Jeffrey Morton, Ph.D. and Timothy Steigenga, Ph.D. direct the program, which will next compete in nationals in Washington, D.C. in November.

The Fuller Center Foundation hosted the 2nd Annual Legacy Polo Brunch recently to benefit under-resourced children and families. The reception and brunch was followed by the USPA Gold Cup polo match at IPC – International Polo Club Palm Beach.

The event was chaired by Peg Anderson, Kelly Baker Ferrarese, and Eamonn Gunther. The event attracted 50 members of the Fuller Foundation’s Legacy Society; a group instrumental in helping the organization fulfill its mission of providing child-

care, aftercare and other services to working families.

“We were so pleased to see such a great response from our Legacy Society members who play a critical role in helping local kids and families in need,” said Peg Anderson, event co-chair.

Take These 6 Steps to Get Your Health Back on Track (StatePoint) Since the start of the pandemic, Americans have been postponing routine care. With more Americans vaccinated against COVID-19, medical experts are urging patients to return to routine health care and get caught up on delayed or foregone preventive health screenings.

“While we know that prevention is the best medicine, the pandemic has caused many Americans to delay important routine health services vital to keeping themselves and their families healthy, particularly critical immunizations and preventive cancer screenings. We urge everyone to get up to date on their routine health care needs,” says Gerald E. Harmon, M.D., president of the American Medical Association (AMA).

According to the AMA, you and your family should take these six steps to get your health back on track: 1. Get screened: Estimates based on statistical models show that since April 2020, 3.9 million breast cancer, 3.8 million colorectal cancer and 1.6 million prostate cancer diagnoses may have been missed due to pandem-

ic-related care disruptions. Check in with your health care provider. If you’re due for preventive care, tests or screenings, make an appointment. These measures are designed to keep you healthy and help your doctor spot certain conditions before they become more serious.

2. Don’t wait: An estimated 41% of adults with one or more chronic health conditions reported delaying or forgoing health care since the pandemic started. Additionally, one in three of those adults reported that doing so worsened one or more of their health conditions or limited their abilities to work or perform other daily activities. Whether you have a chronic health condition or not, don’t wait until something is wrong before seeing

a doctor. If something does feel off, schedule an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible.

3. Consider telehealth: If you’re uncomfortable or unable to go in person to your physician’s practice, check on telehealth options, which have greatly increased over the past two years.

4. Visit your pediatrician: During the pandemic, pediatric immunizations decreased. As public health measures are rolled back, people gather in groups, and traveling resumes, nonCOVID-19 infections that decreased during the pandemic are likely to increase again. Wellchild visits and recommended vaccinations are essential to helping ensure children stay healthy and protected from serious diseases.

5. Get vaccinated: Adolescents and adult immunizations also sharply declined during the pandemic and an estimated 26 million recommended vaccinations were missed in 2020 as compared to 2019. Get up to date on vaccinations, including the COVID-19

6. Don’t neglect mental health: While mental health screenings via digital health tools are up, routine care for mental health is down. Approximately 52% of adults with mental health conditions delayed or forewent care since the pandemic began. Given the adverse effects the events of the past two years have had on mental health, such as increasing anxiety, depression and loneliness, it’s especially important to prioritize this aspect of your health now.

FAU Student’s Plan to Provide Healthy Meals from Vending Machine Boca Raton, FL – A Florida Atlantic University management major who wants to create a company offering restaurantquality healthy meals from a vending machine won the $10,000 first prize in the 14th annual Business Pitch Competition held by FAU’s College of Business and the Adams Center for Entrepreneurship.

Brandon Feinstein’s Fit Oven would provide the meals from custom-built vending machines that refrigerate, heat up and dispense the food to the consumer in 90 seconds or less.

Feinstein graduates in May from FAU, but the idea for the company started in 2018, when he was an undergraduate at Florida State University. Living in a campus dormitory with no access to a car, he was left to whet his late-night appetite with sodas, candy and chips from the dorm’s vending machines.

“I weighed over 325 pounds, and my eating habits were terrible,” said Feinstein, now 24. “With all this technology we have, I always wondered, ‘Why are these vending machines outdated?’”

Feinstein later came back home to Boca Raton and enrolled at FAU, where he developed his idea for balanced meals on the go.

He said he will use the prize money to build his venture, working to put the vending machines in airports and universities.

He hopes to launch the first vending machine in three to six months, and eventually he wants to franchise the business.

B’nai Torah Congregation to Commemorate Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) Boca Raton, FL - B’nai Torah Congregation is hosting an important and meaningful Yom HaShoah event that will include a procession of survivors, hidden children, liberators, and survivors’ children/grandchildren, followed by a Yom HaShoah service with guest speaker Dr. Peter Hayes and a candle lighting ceremony.

Yom Hashoah is a day set aside for Jews to remember the Holocaust and commemorate the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust, and the heroism of survivors and rescuers.

The name comes from the Hebrew word ‘shoah’, which means ‘whirlwind’.

Coral Springs Museum of Art RUSHING Down Exhibition From May 3-June 18, 2022, the Coral Springs Museum of Art will be presenting “RUSHING down” a show that combines the works of contemporary artists Hermes Berrio and Carmen Smith. Berrio and Smith capture the significance of everyday life, relating to the grand scope that emphasizes both the mundane and the extraordinary.

They simultaneously explore how the built environment affects emotional and psychological states surrounding them and their environments.

Smith’s current series Night Swimming emphasizes the nocturnal urban South Florida landscape, imaging it as a magical, otherworldly playground of glowing pools and colorful buildings. Her compositions are kept simple, while her use of color is exaggerated to elicit an emotional response.

Berrio’s urban paintings are personal snapshots of his people, the city, and a sublimely laid out perspective that feels universal and unpretentious; his pieces are

documentary-like in nature. His paintings present a monumental vision of urban life.

Both artists capture inspiration from their memory, familiar settings, and urban landscapes then morph those visions into dynamic and colorful works through use of materials, vision or technique. The nuances of the works show how personal landscape provides new ways to interrupt one’s visual truth using experience, memory, and identity as the roots of the vision. The artists’ shared love of their personal surroundings and use of color complement each other while providing the viewer a vision of RUSHING down through the daily hustle and the nightly wind down.

Visitors will be able to ask the artists questions at the Opening Reception, and during an artist talk and other events to be held at the Museum. Dates for additional programming in conjunction with this exhibition will be forthcoming on our website and social media channels.

FAU Celebrates 2022 Employee Service Awards Florida Atlantic University recently honored faculty and staff at the Employee Service Award Ceremony at its Boca Raton campus. The event recognized several employees for their outstanding service to the university.

Financial aid coordinator Suzanne Paton was awarded the 2022 President’s Leadership Award.

The award honors an employee’s extraordinary effort and benefit to the university community, and the winner is selected by FAU President John Kelly from a pool of nominees.

“Suzanne stepped into a leadership role and orchestrated the distribution of $57,642,818 in Coronavirus Emergency Grants to students during a time of uncertainty and complexity,” said Tracy Boulukos, assistant vice president for financial aid & new student service initiatives. “Her extraordinary efforts facilitated the financial support for students to continue their studies.”

Paul Agostinelli, director of student financial aid IT operations, and Mitchell Roshel, assistant director, career center senior liaison, were awarded the Jeffrey Gabor Exemplary Employee Award.

Rebecca Dixon, program assistant in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, and Taina Teran-Campbell, administrative services coordinator in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts & Letters, were awarded the iTHINK Financial Customer Service Award.

T he 2022 University Faculty Ser vice Award recipient is Adam Dobrin, Ph.D., from the College of Social Work and Criminal Justice.

Employees with five years to 50 years of service were also recognized for their time with the university. Boyd Breslow of the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, and James Hartman of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, were honored for 50 years of service to FAU.

Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation and YMCA of the Palm Beaches Partner to Develop New Facilities, Amenities to Lake Lytal Park YMCA of the Palm Beaches (YMCA) has finalized an agreement with the Palm Beach County (PBC) Board of County Commissioners that authorizes the YMCA to lease approximately five acres in Lake Lytal Park from the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department (PBC Parks) for 50 years with one 50-year extension option. The partnership will bring new facilities, amenities, and improvements to Lake Lytal Park, located at 3645 Gun Club Road in West Palm Beach.

Palm Beach County’s Outstanding Volunteers Were Honored at Fuller Center’s 20th Annual ‘Men with Caring Hearts’ Event Four dedicated volunteers with community nonprofits were recognized at the Fuller Center’s 20th Annual Men with Caring Hearts Awards Celebration on April 8th at Boca West Country Club. The evening’s theme was “Havana Nights.”

The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Gary Collins of Master Club Advisors and Florida CMAA, and the 2022 Man with a Caring Heart Award went to Michael O. Miller of FAU. SBA Communications was the recipient of the Community Impact Award. The biggest surprise of the evening and perhaps the best kept secret of all was the Fuller Center’s own award, “The Bernie,” named in memory of former Board member Bernie Finkelstein, given to Stacey Packer, a Fuller Center Board member and outstanding volunteer who has consistently gone above and beyond on behalf of the agency. The entire crowd was on its feet when it was announced that “behind every great man is a great woman!”

Florida Blue Foundation grant to help establish a center for social justice and health equity The Florida Blue Foundation awarded a multi-million dollar grant to the UF Health Jacksonville’s Urban Health Alliance (UHA) that will allow UHA to establish a statewide Center for Health Equity and Social Justice.

The $3.7 million grant provides a major boost to the UHA’s goal of improving health equity and social justice to ensure that families, individuals and communities of need have both the access and opportunity to achieve positive health outcomes.

The UHA was created two years ago to serve as a comprehensive resource center and community health innovation hub that focuses on improving health by collaborating with health care, government and community organizations.

Florida Blue Foundation, the philanthropic foundation for the state’s Blue Cross Blue Shield plan, supports programs focused on improving food security, health equity, and mental well-being in communities throughout the state. UF Health Jacksonville and Florida Blue Foundation have a strong track record of collaborating over the course of 20 years on community-based programs that advance health equity and address long-standing social, health and racial inequities.

SPORTS Sailfish Fall to Bobcats The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team took on NAIA opponent St. Thomas in a mid-week matchup earlier this evening. The Sailfish dropped the game 6-4 after a rough showing from the bullpen.

The Bobcats come into this game as the number eight ranked team in NAIA. They struck first in the second inning off of an RBI single to center field. The Sailfish would get off to a decent start in this game, responding in the bottom of the second with two runs of their own. Sean Houck led off the inning with a single to left field, followed up by a single down the left field side from Jake Roper. Jiovel Lantigua’s infield single brought Houck in to score, and Roper reached home plate with the help of a Nate Housen sacrifice fly ball.

It was a joint effort from the Sailfish bullpen tonight, but they had some trouble with walks in this game. They allowed 12 batters to reach base on balls, which set up the Bobcats to do some damage on the scoreboard. St. Thomas tallied three runs in the fifth inning off of five walks and zero hits. The Bobcats would get two more runs in the seventh inning to make the score 6-2.

The Sailfish would make things interesting in the eighth inning. Sean Houck would drive a run in on a sacrifice fly ball and a Matty Warren’s RBI single up the middle cut the St. Thomas lead to just two.

The Sailfish comeback would come up short, as the solid defense from the Bobcats prevented any more damage.

Austin, Honzovicova Earn C-USA Pair of the Week

The No. 10 Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team (21-8) won the Conference USA Pair of the Week award for the second consecutive week, fourth time this season. After another successful weekend on the sand, the Owls’ court three pair in Ellie Austin and Julie Honzovicova earned C-USA Pair of the Week. This marks the pair’s first ever weekly honor.

Austin/Honzovicova finished 2-0 at the FIU Beach Bash Tournament on court three to help the Owls earn two 5-0 sweeps over the weekend. The pair began Friday’s play with a 21-17, 21-8 dominating victory over Tulane, who has received votes in the AVCA Poll, to clinch the dual for FAU. Austin/Honzovicova then picked up another huge win over No. 15 FIU, 21-16, 2321, which contributed to the Owls clinching all five courts in straight sets over the

Panthers. The Owls’ 5-0 sweep marked the team’s first of its kind over the Panthers in school history.

This season, the pair is 18-7 at the end of the regular season slate. Their 18 wins as a pair on court three marks the most by a pair on flight three in school history. In just their first season together, the pair is tied for the seventh most career wins overall as a pair in school history.

Beach volleyball ended the regular season with a 21-8 mark, 7-1 in C-USA play, with the program’s 21 wins being tied for a single-season record. The Owls, who are on an eight-match winning streak, is set to compete at the C-USA Championship from Thursday, April 28 to Saturday, April 30 at the John Hunt Sand Volleyball Complex in Huntsville, Alabama. Men’s Track Takes on SSC Schools Fighting Knights selected to in Tampa compete in NCAA South Regional The Lynn Fighting Knights women’s golf team has been selected as the top seed in the NCAA South Regional, which will be held from Monday, May 2 through Wednesday, May 4. The event will be hosted by Nova Southeastern and will be played at the Grande Oaks Golf Club in Davie, Florida.

Lynn headlines a region that consists of 12 teams representing the Sunshine State Conference, the South Atlantic

Conference, the Peach Beach Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Gulf South Conference. The SSC is the most represented league with six of the 12 teams in the field.

To advance to nationals, the Fighting Knights will need to finish in the top five of the region. Nationals will be held May 10 through May 14 at Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville, Georgia.

The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s track team competed for the first time in nearly three weeks on Saturday at the Sunshine State Conference Invite hosted by the University of Tampa.

The squad started the day with the 1500m event. Tyler Ketcham was the best finisher for the ‘Fish, placing seventh with a time of 4:06.00. Ethan Wattles (4:12.33) placed 15th while Samuel Lenes (4:26.77) followed with a new personal record in 23rd.

Denny Murphy, Joshua Bartley, Stephen Snow, and Camden Dangler teamed up to run the 4x100m event. The team finished third in the race with a time of 45.39, besting SSC foe Lynn.

Murphy followed that up by leading the team in the 400m race. He finished sixth in the event, running a 52.10. Justin Reed (53.54) earned a 10th place finish, Snow (53.70) placed 12th, while Dangler finished 16th (56.93).

Mitchell Gray (15:59.57) had the best time for the Sailfish in the 5k, finishing sixth. Zach Rohrbough (16:26.96) finished

ninth, and Birhanu van der Riet (17:52.92) earned 16th.

Bartley was the lone representative for the Sailfish in the 100m. He finished seventh with a time of 11.40, just missing a personal record.

Jake Lonsdale finished fifth in the 800m race.

He ran a personal record time of 1:56.24, setting a new fastest time in school history. Ketcham (2:00.65) placed 12th, Wattles (2:02.85) earned 16th, Bobby Babcock (2:03.21) finished 18th, and Connor Wallace (2:24.18) came in 26th place. Wattles and Babcock each set personal records.

Bartley competed again in the 200m race. He placed sixth with a personal record of 23:04. Murphy placed 10th in the event, running a time of 23.56.

Riley Becomes First PBA Golfer to Earn Spot at NCAA Regionals The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s golfer Andrew Riley was selected to compete in the South/Southeast Regional of the NCAA DII Men’s Golf Championship on Friday. The tournament takes place at the Kinderlou Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga. from May 5-7.

Riley, who is a freshman on the team, is one of four individuals selected from the South Region for the tournament and is the first Sailfish golfer to earn the chance to compete at the regional tournament.

shine State Conference, Peach Belt Conference, Gulf South Conference, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, South Atlantic Conference, and Conference Carolinas. All are vying for a spot in the finals held at TPC Michigan in Detroit. In order to qualify, Riley must be one of the top two student-athletes in the field not on a team advancing to the final site.

In the first collegiate season of his career, Riley has already etched his name into the PBA record book. His season stroke average of 72, in the best season performance in school history.
