BOCA RATON – With the specter of a horrific shooting last week that killed 20 young students in a Connecticut elementary school, officials in Boca Raton and Palm Beach County have quickly responded by ramping up security around local public and private schools.

“In terms of Boca Raton Police, we have increased patrols citywide, around all public and private schools during school hours,” said Mark Economou, public information manager for the Boca PD. The Palm Beach County School District sent an automated phone message to parents during the weekend informing them of the increased police presence. Actually, school districts throughout the country are discussing and implementing methods to better protect children in the aftermath of the deadly Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that took the lives of 20 children and six adults in Newtown, Connecticut.
