You are the creator of your Reality... so how will your 2021 unfold?
S
o many of us are ready to say goodbye to 2020. With all the unprecedented “moments” 2020 left us, we want to embrace 2021’s changes with open arms. So what exactly does “change” mean? By definition, change means to make someone or something different; to alter or modify. Hmm. Let’s look at how that works in business. What can we change, alter or modify in our behaviors as we conduct business in 2021? A lot. Since we know we cannot change another person—or that never worked for me in the past—let’s focus on how to change within. First of all, we can approach 2021 with a slate of endless possibilities for thriving in business. If you felt as if you were just “surviving” this year, leave that thought in 2020. Vow to yourself that 2021 will be your year. So many women in the Lead Up for Women Community thrived during the pandemic. They approached each day as an opportunity to grow, motivate others, live in abundance and seek ways to pivot their businesses. And I must say it worked. Many of you hit record months for revenue, client load and personal growth, which resulted in personal happiness. We control the outcome by controlling our mindset. That doesn’t mean controlling others, yeah I know I said that already, but that really doesn’t work. We believe in you, your abilities and your right to step into every spotlight you can. With Zoom being the new “normal,” you can network countless times per week, and never take off your pajama or put on shoes. That’s what I’m talking about. Lead Up for Women knows each of us can have the life we desire if we take the steps to create that life. Be the badass leader you know you are, and gain the courage and confidence through the strong support of our group of women, so that you can live your best life. We are here to show you how to tap into your greatest power, YOU. You are the only you that has ever been and the only you that will ever be. Be you and be strong, because you are brilliant and the world needs you. All the members of Lead Up for Women So many women in the Lead Up for are here to offer you support and sisterhood, which will help you leading your best life. The journey starts today. Women Community thrived during the I’d like to thank each of you who believes in our mission, who believes in the vision that women can lift each other withpandemic. They approached each day out competition or judgment, and will expand in abundance, as an opportunity to grow, motivate success and love, and in turn, inspire others to do the same. are all sisters in this world. So to create more jobs and others, live in abundance and seek ways We clear more pathways for women to shine in leadership, we must band together and blaze new trails. to pivot their businesses. SANCTUARY RECAP
Leave “I’m Fine” in the Past Sanctuary reinforces why you must THRIVE today, tomorrow and forever
A
fter many cancellations, rescheduling and relocating due to the pandemic, we finally welcomed an intimate group of ladies to The Mansion on Nov. 5. As Thursday approached, the ladies arrived one-by-one at the Scottsdale, Arizona Mansion. They come from New Jersey, Atlanta and, of course, Arizona. We know everyone left re-energized, fueled with intentions, commitment to growth and well-connected. Let’s explain how they got there.
Day 1 Thursday evening featured a scrumptious dinner, prepared by our very own Vegan Chef, Frances Graham of Nourish’d Culinary. Everyone got acquainted and spent the evening sharing powerful stories and why they attended. This connected the group, as they dug deeper into who they are and how they became the amazing people they are today. The evening ended with gift bags filled with beautiful gifts from our many sponsors (Thank you again sponsors).
Day 2 On Friday morning, our group was led through an energizing yoga session with Vanessa Siren of Siren Yoga. Everyone had

their bodies and minds revitalized so they could tackle the day’s workshops. In addition, as is the custom every morning, guests were treated to a fresh vegan breakfast, which included stories from Frances on her struggles before becoming a vegan. She provided cooking advice, as well as insights on why eating healthier can boost your brain function, stamina and success. Friday also saw the group dig deeper into the “why” of all of the roadblocks that may have existed. Working hard to acknowledge the blocks, the workshops went well into the evening. The group was able to sprinkle in “Hot Seats” to uncover hidden beliefs and reveal little gems that may have been hiding from the world.
November-December 2020
Day 3 Saturday was set aside to build on everything unraveled from the day before. It was a day to plan next steps, heal, bask in “me” time and serve others. The day started with a completely different style of yoga led by Vanessa. The session featured meditation and deep stretching, which helped connect the group to their inner self and release tension. Three Point Wellness’ Stephanie and Caitlyn joined the group in the afternoon to provide massages. The rest of the day was spent poolside, including sauna care and hot tub soaking. In addition, Lead Up co-facilitator Julie Jones led the group in creating Sunshine Jars for the OCJ Foundation. The jars are an inspiration for workers from the group/foster homes. For more information, visit ocjkids.org. The day ended with all the ladies dressing in white to symbolize their clean canvas. Dinner included a family-style Italian meal and some late night dancing, including an impromptu dance party.
Day 4 On the final day, Vanessa started the group with yoga, including a healing yoga/meditation session with cucumbers and essential oil clothes. The session helped solidify all the learning, growing and transformations the group experience over the weekend. As the Sanctuary came to a close, each attendee set intentions, which they will be held accountable for over the next four weeks of post-group coaching.
For more information on attending the 2021 Sanctuary, visit www.leadupforwomen.com/events and submit an application. Remember, if learning is beneath you, then leadership is beyond you.

Your Story Starts Here How to write a captivating short promotional biography
I
was born with a pen in my hand. From the time I was 11, I declared that I would become a sportswriter, and believe me, at that point, there were no women sportswriters. But writing came easy to me, and before I was 22, I was at the Detroit Free Press, on the front pages of the Los Angeles Times, at the Associated Press and The Washington Post. I used my writing skills to build one of the largest sports/entertainment PR firms in the country, and then wrote two best-selling personal growth books, the last of which was awarded the “Best Spiritual Book of the Year” at the International New Age Trade Show. Today, I write pitches that get authors and leaders booked on thousands of radio shows and podcasts. Writing has been my ticket to success, my intuitive craft. But I know that the ease and passion for writing does not come easily for other people. Most struggle with writer’s block on even the simplest projects. “Where do I start? What do I say? What do I leave in? Leave out?

In today’s world, you need every edge to attract clients— wherever that may be—including virtual and in-person, live speaking events, webinars, podcasts, radio shows, summits, videocast, and more.

How do I make it flow so it reads better? How do I make it impactful?” Indeed, there is a lot at stake. In today’s world, you need every edge to attract clients—wherever that may be—including virtual and in-person, live speaking events, webinars, podcasts, radio shows, summits, videocast, and more. As a leader, author, entrepreneur, coach or expert, your success at attracting clients is directly correlated with how much visibility you have within the communities of people assembled in a room, virtual conference or listening to a podcast. But the decision-makers who book presenters or interviews are notoriously overworked and besieged by candidates for their limited slots. How in the world do you stand out? The answer is a powerful short biography, which can establish you as the star you are and motivate someone to choose you. You will use it in your speaker onesheet, speaker introductions, webinars, summits, podcast introduction sheets, and more. They will help you get booked or impress the audiences with your expertise and accomplishments How do you get this essential life-summing up biography into a few paragraphs to resonate with bookers and make them feel you’re the right person to introduce to their audience? Or, how do bookers believe you’re the right person to get an audience eager to learn from your track record? Let me help take the intimidation factor out of writing your impactful, concise and compelling biography If you are pondering how many ways you might mess this up, let me come to your rescue with three simple tips that should make things easy.
November-December 2020
Before you start, remember that you’re writing in the third person, so you can detach from any reluctance to brag about yourself. This is not the time to be humble. Use powerful adjectives and active verbs. And do not write every sentence starting with your name; alternate using introductory clauses. Write it as if you’re summarizing the exciting career of someone you admire.

In the first paragraph, answer the questions, “What’s the benefit you bring to this audience? Why you? What will be the outcome for the audience? How specifically will their lives, businesses and mindsets improve? What’s different about you than everyone else in your genre?” While you may pepper other information in this first graph, this must be your core message.
In the second paragraph, touch on what you have done—things that will impress the decision-maker and the audience. What are your Top 3 results-driven business successes (and for personal growth and wellness leaders, these successes mean your Top 3 achievements with clients—individually, collectively or community-wide.) Expelling the Myth Finding financial freedom in a downward market
P
erhaps you have asked yourself if it is possible to reach financial freedom in a market that goes to a lower figure from time to time. If you answered yes, this article is for you.
Those who have become wealthy have come across hundreds of obstacles, as was my own experience. Having found myself working from paycheck-to-paycheck with less than $30 a month to spare, divorced—and to top it all off—a single mom, I decided it was time to make a change. I was able to create a profitable empire with only $500. So it is possible for you. As you read on, you will learn how to survive many of life’s ups and downs because I’m 100% sure the game is still

winnable. But you should know this path is a journey. You need to work hard, be committed with yourself and self-motivated every single day. Any hard-working American can reach this life as me. Let’s explore some aspects about taking control of your economic future.
The power of compounding Many times, we go aimlessly and don’t stop to plan what’s truly important to us

and our families, and what decisions will benefit us most in life. Did you know if you save 20% of your income and invest it at a rate of return of 5%, in 36 years you can retire at any age?
November-December 2020
If you can save a larger amount or get a higher return, you can retire sooner. If you manage to save 40% of your income and get a return of 7%, you’ll reduce the time until your retirement in 19 years. Additionally, you can reinvest that money by using the power of compounding. When you invest, you’re going to generate interests. These gains can be powerful if you learn how to use them. Compounding interest is the additional interest on your principal investment, or in other words, the interest on the interest. It works by reinvesting interest rather than paying out. It means the interest gained in the next period, plus the previously accumulated interest. Compounding interest means you’re making your money work for you.
gets, retirement plans, taxes, investments, real estate, among others.
Find a mentor Mentoring is different from brokering. A mentor literally can teach you how to invest, while a broker is driven by compensations and commissions. This is the real financial education aimed at developing the potential of entrepreneurial people. It is based on transferring the knowledge from the accumulation of experience of the mentor to anyone who wants to grow.
Generally speaking, a correction involves a loss of 10% off a recent major index high. A bear market involves a loss of 20% lasting at least two months or longer. It is hard to predict how long. There are strategies that can protect your investments, like buying bonds, gold or stocks down in value. So don’t waste more time waiting for someone to educate you. Be responsible for your economic situation and become a part of a chess game, not a chess player.
Many times, we go aimlessly and don’t stop to plan what’s truly important to us and our families, and what decisions will benefit us most in life.
Reduce fees and taxes Commissions to brokers can considerably impact your account values. You may think that if you don’t know anything about investment, looking for a broker is necessary to start operating. That is a myth. Pay attention to the great quantity of fees and taxes you pay to brokers in a year. Did you know that fees are extracted from your account? People think they don’t pay fees in their 401(k) plan, but that’s not true. If you reduce just 1% of your annual fees, you’ll save 50% of your money for retirement. That means almost 10 years longer, so of course taxes are important. But to save money, you don’t need a broker; it’s mandatory you educate yourself in finances. The world of investment is incredibly intimidating—full of complex terms and concepts that aren’t meant to be understood by the common citizen. Fortunately, this is a misconception. Financial education is available to anyone regardless of their level of education. It focuses on the ability to make sound decisions and manage financial affairs with confidence. This implies the possession of skills and knowledge that allow an individual to make effective decisions on various personal finance issues, including bud-

A mentor is someone who advises, supports and guides the entrepreneur, and gives the necessary tools to develop a project by overcoming obstacles in a professional manner, ensuring that you make the right decisions to avoid mistakes and future problems. You can connect through your mentor and networking along the path in order to acquire the necessary skills to develop both personally and professionally. Turning your idea into a profitable business and, if necessary, seek funding. This close relationship of trust with the entrepreneur includes providing agile tools, guiding and advising both in the short– and medium-term, developing a business model, a business plan, a financial plan, etc.
Understand how markets work Good investors know the bear market is essential. They actually are looking forward to better opportunities of buying. The stock market does not like Americans when it’s on sale, but if you learn all the necessary strategies and handling tools, I’m sure you will reach profits to reach financial freedom. Your quality of life improves and even you will transform your life vision. Differences between a bear market and a correction also are important to understand how industry works.
Don’t forget that study is the fundamental key to match your needs and goals to your business plan. Your interests have to be above the investment decisions.
Final thoughts Everybody can reach economic stability by financial freedom. You and your family deserve more than a day by day life. Although money is not the source of happiness, it’s clear it can help us a lot, especially if you want to spend more time with family and loved ones, ensure your retirement and even college for kids. Build your wealth, but don’t forget to find ways adding more value to people’s lives. Well-being is associated with happiness, so the more you give, the more you receive. Remember that financial freedom is different from each person and can be money, time or your unique values, goals and standards of living. Start working toward it now.

L.E.A.P. into the Lifestyle You Deserve
L
.E.A.P. That’s exactly what these eight ladies did when we visited Schnepf Farms in November 2020. After being greeted by owner Mark Schnepf, who grew up and inherited his parent’s potato farm, we were introduced to the farm’s history. We were to get an inside look at what happens when all those million-dollar ideas don’t happen on the first try. Our takeaway: When you fail, you must try again, and again and again. Without persistence, Schnepf Farms would not be the huge entertainment farm it is today—one that hosts hundreds of thousands of people each year. How do they do it? We dove into the topic during lunch, where we foraged for ourselves. We picked vegetables, rinsed them, chopped them into bite-sized morsels, and added them to our lunch masterpiece. And sure, not everyone enjoyed the foraging or prep work, but just as in business, you have to do things you don’t like sometimes in order to reap rewards. On this day, that reward was lunch.

We only have one life, one time on this earth to pursue our dreams, one chance to build the business we desire. So, what’s stopping you? There are basic steps that must be done to launch a business, scale a business, and to understand your profit margin. Your 10-point Plan to Greater, Positive Mental Wellness
W
e are living in a world where we’re constantly bombarded by stories, videos and articles of chaos, disease, darkness and destruction. Whether we’re consciously aware of it or not, we take all this into our awareness. Everyone needs a boost of joy and love during this time. In fact, studies provide proven strategies you can begin applying to your life to increase your mental wellness and capacity toward greater joy and harmony in our world.
Below, you’ll find some of the most powerful tips on improving your mental health during these unprecedented times. Choose three that resonate most with you and start applying them to your life, business and relationships today.
By Nadene Joy
Your Top 10 tips to improving your mental wellness include: 1. Have a positive mindset and surround yourself with uplifting people who do great things. You’re the product of the Top 4 people you spend the most time with. Replace negative thoughts immediately with positive ones and don’t focus on the negative. Remember, what you focus on expands. 2. Uncover your purpose and live each day with greater meaning by focusing on what brings you joy and fulfillment. Choose to be happy and joyful each day. Next time someone asks you how you’re doing, say, “I feel happy.” Just saying this out loud will make you feel happier. 3. Serving and helping others in need is one of the fastest ways to lift your spirits. One of my favorite quotes is so true: “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” — Mahatma Gandhi 4. Focus your attention on living in the present and let go of the past. This tends to lead to depression. Let go of your worries and fear of the unknown. Thinking of the future can lead to anxiousness. Instead, live in the present. That’s what brings true peace of mind and harmony into our lives and the lives of others. 5. Share your passions and gifts with the world. The first step is to define your gifts and talents by looking at what sets your heart on fire. Ask yourself: “If I could spend my today anyway I wish and money wasn’t a concern, what would I do?” Look at what you’re

already doing in those spare moments. How can you serve others? Seek out non-profit organizations that need volunteers. Visit a local senior citizen center. Get creative. Once you start looking, the opportunities will be endless. 6. Forgive those who have hurt you, including yourself. Rid yourself of unresolved feelings of bitterness, anger, judgement, criticism and resentment, and replace them with unconditional love for yourself and all others. When there is love, there is no room for hate. 7. Make smiling and laughing a part of your day. Smile at people you pass on the street, in the grocery store or on a Zoom meeting. It might be the only smile that person gets during the day or week. And it only takes a second. Smile at yourself in the mirror. Tell yourself how incredibly amazing, loved and special you are. Here are a few interesting facts about smiling: It is the universal sign for happiness. It boosts your immune system. It is contagious. Now, here’s a challenge: Smile at someone and see if they smile back. Every time you smile naturally, it relieves stress. Smiling helps you get promoted. Women smile more than men. There are 19 different smiles—polite, “social smiles” versus sincere, “felt smiles” are two categories identified by a UCSan Francisco researcher. Say “cheeks” instead of “cheese” to display a more genuine smile. Here’s a smile quote I love: “Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.” — Mother Teresa 8. Have a sense of belongingness to a community. That doesn’t have to mean many people. In fact, a community can be just two people who feel valued, seen and heard, and who truly matter to each other. Find ways to connect with others, even if it is just through text, phone or Zoom. Connections are what motivate us with what our “why” is for doing what we do in our daily lives. Belonging is one of our basic needs—above food, shelter and clothing. It’s why it is placed as one of the Top 10 universal ways to improve your overall mental wellness.
of trust, surrender and let go knowing you’re loved and protected beyond measure. No matter what you’re going through or have been through, everything happens for a reason. It brings greater lessons and blessings beyond your wildest dreams. Trust that God is ultimately in control of your destiny. Be obedient and take action on what you’re called to do. This will bring a deep intrinsic sense of accomplishment, joy, value and selfworth—feelings that are long-lasting. The power of prayer also is powerful. Make sure to include prayer/meditation/gratitude into your daily routine, not just during the bad times, but the good times, too.
not just in a state of worry. Don’t miss the hidden messages in your conversations. This might be the only cry for help you get from someone. Show them you love, care and concern. As leaders, it’s important to engage in this active listening process. Doing so brings much greater fulfillment for everyone involved, whether they’re your boss, client, friend, family or President of the United States. I encourage you to practice this, and watch your entire world and business culture get turned around for the better. These are a few strategies I have found that work both personally and professionally over my last decade working, coaching, speaking and consulting with top leaders, influencers, individuals, families and youth around the world as I ran a global business and events. Stay true to who you are and let your unique gifts, talents and passions shine brightly. Spread greater, unconditional love and kindness, and hope and joy with everyone you encounter.
As leaders, it is important to engage in this active listening process. Doing so brings much greater fulfillment for everyone involved. 10. Lead, speak and listen from the heart. We all desire to feel seen, heard and valued. In order to experience this, you must model this to others. Be vulnerable, authentic, genuine and real with everyone you meet. Listen and feel what others are saying from the heart,
Remember, it starts with your thoughts, which leads to your destiny. By simply replacing your negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll be on your way to improving your overall mental wellness, life, relationships and business.

How Careyann Golliver is helping people realize their dreams through franchise matchmaking for FREE
I
n the early 2000s, Careyann Golliver created a franchise options arm for a business broker in Denver. It was a cathartic experience that taught her many lessons on how to create, implement and manage sales processes and procedures for resale business transactions.
Two decades later, Careyann is known as America’s Franchise MatchmakerTM —a person who has acquired a unique perspective on helping others take the leap into franchise ownership. These keen insights were born from a career that included being a small business owner and that independent franchise sales arm experience for a franchising corporation. The process, as Careyann describes, includes building and maintaining strong personal relationships with people who are committed to finding real opportunities to be their own boss. She has become so much of a thought leader in the area that her insights have been tapped by the likes of Bloomberg Businessweek, Entrepreneur Magazine and FORTUNE, among others. She also is a highly sought after voice in the franchise industry. We sat down with her to discuss her beginnings, the future and what it feels like to be the conduit to other people’s dreams.

Give us a snapshot of Franchise Logic? I was first introduced into the franchising world when I helped build and grow a family business into a top rated national handyman franchise. With its success, it ultimately was acquired by one of the world’s largest retailer-owned hardware co-operative companies, Ace Hardware Corporation. I learned a lot on that magical ride, but the one thing that was crystal clear to me is that there were so many people out there who wanted to be The Boss. They just didn’t know where to begin or even how to conduct a proper due diligence on a franchise business. It can be overwhelming with nearly 4,000 franchises in the US alone today. Nine and a half years ago, I took my knowledge from the franchisor side, and applied it to guiding and coaching individuals who wanted my knowledge to
help connect them to franchise options that match their skill sets, goals, dreams and spend tolerance available in their desired geographic area. My services are free. My entire methodology is to bring education to the forefront. We all know the better educated one can be, the better decisions one can make. They can make confident decisions for their future, which ultimately results in higher chances of success. I also am helping franchise organizations grow their brands with the best-fit candidates—ones they might not have ever found on their own. It’s a win-win. That is how I became America’s Franchise MatchmakerTM.
Tell us what makes the Franchise Logic brand so unique? I believe my real-life experience on the franchisor side is a huge advantage in helping guide and coach others. I make sure they have their eyes wide open before they make any decisions or spend any money. This is a huge investment, in many cases, equal to the purchase of their home. Because I co-owned and assisted running a franchise myself, I feel it gives

my candidates an insider’s edge and highly educated perspective. I am gifted at matchmaking prospective buyers with potential fits for their needs. The process I have mastered is truly a self-discovery journey to identify their possible perfect franchise match. It is created to align skill sets and goals while helping prospective buyers take control of their destiny and fulfill the American Dream. Due to the majority of folks I work with being between 52-67 years of age, they won’t have enough years to recover if they don’t get it right.
executives ready to escape Corporate America. They have a true desire to do something on their own, but not alone.
What drives your decision to do this? My passion. Quite honestly, it is a blessing to be able to literally change lives. Most people coming out of corporate have always wanted to run their own business, knowing they can do it better. There comes a time when they realize they’re done renting their time and talent, only to create wealth for others.
What hurdles have you overcome being a woman in business? Let’s face it, women rock. Unfortunately, we are not always treated equally. But I love a good challenge. Some of my most favorite placements are women in male-dominated businesses, mostly because they generally run circles around the men. Many times it is frustrating and unfair to have your abilities and direction challenged because of your gender. Being a strong assertive female in my role allows me to professionally nurture my candidates like a mother. That can be extremely powerful. I think it’s a talent that men just can’t utilize.
Because I co-owned and assisted running a franchise myself, I feel it gives my candidates an insider’s edge and highly educated perspective. What do you do to give back?
What type of consumer do you target? The ideal target varies from stay-athome moms who may be empty nesters excited about having a new purpose and contributing to their family income, to investors or PE firms seeking an investment vehicle outside of the stock market (where there is no control that can result in yielding a high ROI) to corporate

I can show people an abundance of possibilities outside of traditional employment that allows them to build a career bridge—one that eventually takes back control and helps them build a real asset they own. Learning that someone I placed in a successful franchise business is now playing a mentoring role within that system validates my matchmaking effectiveness.
I am active locally with Denver Divas – Entrepreneur Women’s Group, Franchise Business Network and the International Franchise Association. I am also a community volunteer. I strive to maintain a lifestyle reflective to a strong commitment of balance, determination and drive in my own life, and assist others around me to achieve this as well. Every year around Christmas, Travis and I usually spend $500 on different toys to provide to our community for the less fortunate. While we don’t have children of our own, I can’t imagine how heartbreaking it would be to have to choose between gifts under the tree for your children or putting food on the table.
What are some of your biggest opportunities moving ahead? I am starting a Micro Influencer business online. I am balancing this learning

curve with upholding my current business responsibilities. It has been a bit of a challenge to maneuver. My franchise consulting business is very serious. Yes, I bring fun into the process, but it’s still very serious—surrounded with lots of rules and regulations. I feel like the “fun creative Careyann” doesn’t get to come out and play as much. I hope this second business will fill that void for me, and bring much success and happiness in a fresh new way.
How do you stay connected with other women in business? I engage in meaningful groups (like Lead Up). It helps me surround myself with other like-minded, Type A-player driven, entrepreneurial females. When you get a driven group of females together, it is magnetic. The goal is to stay active in networks that support other small business owners and surround yourself with people who will lift you up, not drag you down.
Being a business owner is not always unicorns and rainbows. It is a lot of hard work. Nobody else is going to care about your business more than you do. Due to COVID, there are endless virtual networking events that can literally fill hours of teleporting yourself via Zoom, helping inspire meaningful connections with a great deal of others in short order.
What people have played an important role in your success? My mother has been my biggest mentor. Even while raising my sister and I, she successfully balanced a tremendous career in real estate. I have always looked up to her, not only as my mother, but as a top professional woman in her field.

How do you stay current with today’s trends? I am lucky to have a great group of colleagues. We meet every six months face-to-face for a week-long meeting, and every month to discuss best practices and challenges we have with our businesses. It is uncommon to find a group of professionals willing to share their wins and failures, along with their secrets to their success from the same business you are in. These are very driven, Type A personalities, who even though they are extremely competitive, have enough respect to be open and willing to share with others.
What is your growth plan?
Let’s face it, women rock. Unfortunately, we are not always treated equally. But I love a good challenge.
I am highly competitive, which can be dangerous at times. My growth plan is to continue to raise the bar in striving to find new ways to deliver real value to those I serve. My goal is to continue to build my referral network, because working with referrals are the best candidates to work with—along with growing and building the Micro Influencer business at the same time.
What’s the biggest item on your to-do list right now? Restructuring my entire marketing strategy for my franchise consulting business. And boy is it a big one. This involves and requires a lot of trust in others to deliver and produce results at a large ticket price. It can be uneasy at times because I tend to be a bit of a control freak. You have to give up that control to make these tasks a reality.
What’s the most rewarding part of your career? I feel incredibly honored to say that 80% of my business is from personal referrals. I think it is a huge feather in my cap that others believe the value I bring to each relationship comes with honesty and integrity, and truly caring about their success.
What is your secret to success? Failure is never an option. Being a business owner is not always unicorns and rainbows. It is a lot of hard work. Nobody else is going to care about your business more than you do. Accept the things that you hate to do or don’t do well, and find others to do them. Define where your skill sets will generate the most return and spend most of your time in those areas. No one can excel at everything. Be okay with your weaknesses.

One-on-One with... Tell us about your family? Third time’s a charm. I had to have some not so great marriages until I found my soulmate, Travis. I often feel I wish I would have found him earlier because he would have been best friends with my beloved father, who had passed less than a year before we met. We have two Shih-Tzu fur-babies, Gertie and Garcia, who are brother and sister.
How do you prioritize your health, family and career? Health is my top priority, because without it, you have nothing. My family comes second. My career is third.

What are your strongest traits as a leader? Integrity, gratitude and self-awareness.
How are you mentoring/ sponsoring others? I feel like I mentor every day with my franchise candidates by guiding them on a journey of exploration and giving them a newfound clarity for their future.
What motivates you every day?
What book are you reading now?
Connecting with others. I love hearing their stories. And because I have a virtual business, I can speak with people from all over and really become an important fixture in the planning of their possible future. It’s exciting. In fact, I still get Christmas cards from people I placed into their perfect franchise over 15 years ago with our family franchise.

What are your favorite hobbies? I am all about retail therapy. I love working out and playing tennis and I love to hunt & fish. I also have fallen in love with Diamond Paintings lately, especially during the pandemic and these difficult quarantine times.
How do you like to spend your down time?
I am genuine. What you see is what you get. I don’t know how to be anyone but me. You will either love me or you won’t. Authenticity is something everyone is craving, so I strive to keep it real. I think people who know and work with me appreciate that.

Vision is Where You Start

uman nature. That’s the one, true common denominator. After raising two amazing kids, building two businesses and mentoring scores of people, I know this now. We all want to know we helped other people and have made a difference. But in order to do that, we must show up every day as the best version of ourselves and lead by example. I know this is easier said than done. We want the best for the people we love, but we tend to forget that it starts with us. People follow by example more than they do hearing words or reading books. Now more than ever, the next generation will need heroes. That’s you and me. They’re not going to get it from the outside world, even though we hope they do. That world—one that’s able to rely on good schools, good teachers, government leaders or even a church structure—has changed dramatically. We are at a place in life where we need a grassroots movement.
And again, it begins with us. So, where do we begin? I believe it starts with having a rock-solid vision for your life and knowing your purpose. Not the vision you have for your spouse, your children, your friends or an organization you belong to. You must get clear on what you desire for your life first. When I was 26, my first mentor told me to find a quiet space and take a day to write out all my heart’s desires. She suggested writing down everything I wanted my future to hold—my relationships, where I lived, what kind of mom I hoped to be for my future children, how I wanted to earn a living, and what kind of person I hoped people would remember me by. She wanted every little detail. That was more than 25 years ago.
What happened that day was magical. I was in such a quiet, spiritual space. I knew that God was talking and I was listening. I was so clear on the desires in my heart and, ultimately hearing the purpose that was in store for my life. Things began to unfold. Everything I asked for started showing up. My first business opportunity arrived just as I asked for it. I was able to grow that business and stay home with my children. I was able to start personally developing into the best version of myself and lead others to do the same. Here are the steps I took—ones I hope will help you get started: › Find a quiet place to get away and write down what you want your life to look like three years from now. How old will you be? How old will your family members be? Time and aging are nonnegotiable factors in life, so this is an awakening of what’s to come. › Write all your biggest dreams and desires for your life at that point. Don’t leave anything out, even if you think it’s not possible with your current situation. God and His Universe are more powerful than your limited beliefs.

› Share your vision with the ones you love and trust with your vision. There is so much power in verbalizing your desires. Here’s what having this clear vision will and can do for you. › You’ll be able to set better boundaries around your time, your money and the people you spend it with moving forward. You can answer every decision with a yes or no answer. It either aligns with your vision or it doesn’t. Imagine how much more time you’ll have and how much more enjoyable your life will be when you get freed up from all the things you’re doing and the people you finally need to set free from your life. › You can create a clear, goalsetting path for what you intend to create and follow it every day. You can stay focused on the most important use of your precious time here on earth.
› You can stop worrying about all the little things tripping you up because you’re on fire for what you want to create, instead of having anxiety about the things you cannot control. › Your vision gives you hope even on your worst days. We all face little and big obstacles daily, but when your vision is driving you, no matter what’s happening in your personal life or in the world, you keep going.
› Lastly, you become an agent of hope for other people. When they see you working through your challenges and that you can keep going, it inspires them to do the same. Remember, they’re watching you. To be our absolute best, we must lead ourselves first. I encourage you to take the challenge, to be brave not just for yourself, but for the people you love. “Suit up” your vision every single day.

y Grandma used to say, “Don’t wish your life away.” While 2020 has been challenging, to say the least, I can’t help but to look forward to 2021. New Year’s Day is my favorite holiday. It’s a fresh start with a clean slate laid out ahead of me. And right now is an optimal time to think about goals and put them to paper. Many of our goals focus on increasing income and the things we can do with that additional money. These goals are an end to the specific steps we take to reach these results. The actual goal simply describes the end of a journey. The same thing can be said for public speaking, both as a way to increase your income and a journey that ends with results.

organization. It’s the fastest path to more clients, more donors or more awareness, which all lead to more cash. for a cold call. Audience members either know you’re the speaker or know the topic you’ll share. Therefore, there’s an interest and a pool of potential clients. This is your foundation of the know factor. As the speaker, you’ll need to bring several more factors to your talk. You’ll need to be likeable to win over potential new clients. Speaking is your opportunity to showcase you. It gives the audience a significant timeframe to decide just how much they like you.

In addition, your talk should be easy to follow and provide information that’s valuable to your audience. And your delivery—meaning how you say the words and use your body to support your message— should be polished and professional. All these aspects add to these know, like and trust factors. The better you can put all the pieces together and deliver a memorable talk, the better your chances are to get the desired results. If you’re missing a piece of this puzzle, your audience will notice something is off. That leads them to lack trust in you and what you’re offering. This is where I come in. I can help fix what’s missing so that you’re making the most of your time in front of an audience. It is very difficult to rebound from fumbling through your presentation. It’s imperative you do everything you can to avoid damaging this groundwork. There are a few more concepts that contribute to that fastest path to cash. You must know this before you plan your talk. Focus on the end result first and then work backward to build a talk around those results. So many people give a talk and forget to make an offer. Audiences have become accustomed to hearing an offer when listening to a speaker. When there’s no offer or ask, your talk seems unfinished. If you think about it, you have put a lot of time into the whole process of writing your talk, practicing it, and then scheduling to deliver it at any number of groups. The Importance of the Ask I recently had a conversation with a woman who was speaking to get donations for a non-profit. She mentioned that she was disappointed with the lack of people wanting to contribute to the cause. I asked her to tell me what she was saying. As I listened carefully, I noticed there was an important piece missing—one that caused the audience to question her trustworthiness. I suggested she add information regarding what project would be funded by the donations. The next time she spoke, she had more success. In just a few weeks, the number of donations increased seven times over the previous results.

oreign languages are extremely cool. When I was growing up, our education system had limited class options compared to what’s offered today. Back then, it was very popular to learn Spanish or French. My friends believed learning a second language gave them a better chance to one day leave Missouri and visit faraway lands. My kids were fortunate to have had so many more language choices, including Chinese and Japanese. In fact, my daughter reached even further outside the box and enrolled in our high school district’s newly introduced sign language curriculum. She said it came in quite handy, particularly the time she stood in a fast food line and “read” the intimate, yet very entertaining conversation of two completely engaged signers. I, on the other hand, wasn’t as lucky. I studied Latin. Yep, Latin. Here I was, a Jewish girl who didn’t even know Hebrew, poring over the yawn-producing works of Virgil and Ovid. Why on earth would anyone pick a dead language to learn? I began my Latin journey in middle school, studied it throughout high school, and even minored in the strenuous

language in college. Please don’t ask if I remember any of the specifics today. I don’t. But I’ll admit the English portion of my SATs was easier. And I was literally the only person at work who actually knew what carpe diem meant before the movie “Dead Poets Society” popularized the phrase in 1989. That’s when I thought, “Hey, maybe Latin actually is cool.” But it isn’t. Not for my Dad, who studied it before me, or for my three children who begrudgingly studied it after me. Latin is sold as a language that enables you to learn other languages more easily. At least that’s what my teachers and my Dad said. It was once deemed a universal language. I saw nothing universal about it. To me, music is the universal language. It speaks volumes—whether the

The music alone makes you feel all the feels are possible in the universe: happy, sad, scared, relieved, peaceful, amused, and much more. As we inch toward 2021—or MMXXI for my fellow Latin lovers—I hope music serves as the inspiration for our universe to do better and be better. I’ve paired some of my musical favorites with groundbreaking nonprofits in an effort to show their harmonious relationship and inspire everyone to feel the music.

We Are The Champions This Queen song is an anthem to all everyone who has struggled and overcome. “We’ll keep on fighting till the end” summarizes the feelings of hope and resilience since, both now and in the future, since there is “no time for losers/‘cause we are the champions.” Support the champions: National Alliance on Mental Illness (www.nami.org), the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization, is dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. The words are based on a phone call that co-writer Steve Perry had with his dad, who after his son said his dream of becoming a famous musician wasn’t working out in Hollywood, responded with the “don’t stop believing” phrase. Strictly Speaking While I did learn a lot from studying Latin, I still cannot speak the language (it’s pretty much deemed a dead language anyway) or hear the language (unless I attend mass in the Vatican City.) But I can definitely feel a sense of serenity wash over me when listening to “musica” (the Latin word for “music”) in my universe, which gives me peace of mind and hope for our world after the year we’ve had.
