TThe goal of the Boerne Police Foundation is to increase community awareness and support for the Boerne Police Department, and assist those officers who contribute to making Boerne a safe place. “We work hard as an organization to provide support for our local police officers and to bridge any gaps between the City of Boerne’s budget and certain needs the department may have,” said Board President, Rey de la Fuente.

There are four core areas in which the organization aims to assist the Boerne Police Department: 1) Training, ongoing education, and professional development 2) Advancement of Community Service Programs 3) Assist with purchases of specialized crime prevention and personal police equipment 4) Provide financial support, as needed, for personal hardship assistance and surviving family members of officers injured or killed in the line of duty

Because of generous donors, the Boerne Police Foundation has been able to provide important contributions to the Boerne Police Department. According to de la Fuente, “We have assisted with expenses for continuing education and officer development. Another thing we were able to contribute to was the acquiring, equipping and the training of several K9 specialty units. Our organization has also provided the department with first aid equipment,

such as tourniquet belts for all the officers.” The Boerne Police Foundation is also proud to have assisted a local officer that was injured in the line of duty. “When Chief Kohler has a need, or knows of an officer or their family who needs assistance, he often comes to the board. We are happy to say that because of the generosity of the local community we are usually able to help,” added Rey.

The Boerne Police Foundation was incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) in April of 2014. They have seven highly engaged directors who donate their time to assist the foundation in fulfilling its purpose. Board memREY DE LA FUENTE, BPF BOARD PRESIDENT bers include Rey de la Fuente (President), Melissa Bendele (Treasurer), Cathy Cowan (Secretary), Misty Stout (Director), Sandie Ford (Director), Lloyd Voigt (Director), and Cody Blackmon (Director). The organization is proud to be a nominee for Non-Profit of the Year at the Chamber Gala on May 22nd.

The Boerne Police Foundation is thankful that our community is so supportive of the BPD and all first responders. “It is a blessing to be in a community that holds in local law enforcement in such high regard and is so generous with their support,” said de la Fuente. “Our objective for 2021 is to increase community awareness of the BPF and educate them on our mission and purpose to the Boerne Police Department.”

If you would like to be a part of supporting the BPD, you can donate your time, services, or donations. They do also have several board positions available. The BPF website provides information on current department needs as well as a link to make donations or become a member. BBM
