Play and exercise for a generation
At BOERplay, we are passionate about creating inspiring indoor and outdoor spaces where people of all ages can play, exercise, discover, and meet. We believe that play and exercise is essential for the development of people on physical, cognitive, social-emotional, creative, and intellectual aspects, regardless of their age.
Experience and expertise
With well over 60 years of experience of designing (inclusive) outdoor spaces for play, sport, meeting, and exercise, delivering our services and products worldwide. We cooperate with schools, recreational organisations, municipal authorities, and other organisations, using various furnishing concepts based on the needs of the users.
Attention to needs
Whilst designing an outdoor area, we look through the eyes of the end user and select exercise and play equipment that meets the
different needs, age groups and play types. Thus, contributing to their physical and mental health as well as their social well-being.
Materials and safety
Our playground equipment is manufactured by skilled professionals in our own factory in Nieuwendijk (NL). We warrant a long lifetime as we use sustainable materials, such as FSC® certified (hard)wood, coated aluminium, stainless steel and recycled plastics. In the design process of the equipment and the overall exercise- and play areas, we give safety the highest priority. In addition, we strive to reuse materials to promote sustainable solutions that are of value for both now and the future.
The influence of play on development
Playing is a great opportunity for children to stretch their limits. By taking risks, they learn to recognise and stretch their limits. This has a positive impact on the development of young children in the following ways:
• Sensorimotor development: Whilst playing, children use their senses to gather information about the environment and about their own bodies. By rocking on a springer, they feel the resiliency beneath their body and see the upward and downward movements. This improves their balance and coordination as they learn to control and adapt movement.
• Physical development: Playing challenges children to develop their motor skills such as balance, coordination, strength, and endurance. Through climbing, jumping, running and other physical challenges, they develop muscles, strengthen their bones, and build a healthy body.
• Cognitive development: During play, children are being challenged to solve problems, discover new things, and use their imagination. This stimulates memory, logical thinking, and creativity. Play also has a positive influence on the ability to plan, make decisions and concentrate.
• Emotional development: Exploratory play allows children to overcome their fears and insecurities, build self-confidence and develop self-esteem. By taking on challenges and overcome obstacles, children learn to deal with frustrations, setbacks, and risks. They develop resilience, emotional regulation, and self-awareness.
• Social development: Playing together encourages cooperation, communication, and social interaction. Children learn to negotiate and support each other during adventurous play activities. They develop social skills such as understanding others’ perspectives, respecting each other’s limits, and building healthy relationships within a group, and empathy.

Star score
With our score we show what kind of influence a play value of a playground equipment has on a child’s development, on a scale from 1 to 5. The higher the score, the more the play value contributes to the child’s development. A play value can be relevant to several developmental areas. Below, we give an example for each activity in one developmental area:
Climbing and clambering stimulate physical development: Children learn to coordinate their bodies, maintain balance, and develop self-confidence whilst overcoming obstacles. In climbing a climbing frame, they develop strength, balance, and motor skills.
Imaginative play stimulates emotional development: Children take on different roles, imitating everyday situations and use their imagination to create stories and scenarios. As a result, they become socially interactive and enhance their lingual skills, through which they develop their problem-solving skills.
Sliding promotes sensorimotor development: Children learn about speed, keeping balance and spatial orientation whilst having fun. When sliding, they experience different speeds, helping them to control their bodies and senses.
Balancing promotes cognitive development: Through balancing, children become aware of their posture and movement to keep their balance. This helps develop spatial orientation skills, such as understanding left and right, forward and backward, and estimating distances and positions.
Rocking on a seesaw enhances social development: Children learn to work together. They learn to interact, take account of each other, and have fun in group activities. Through rocking together, they learn to collaborate and coordinate their movements.
For each playground equipment, we visualise how it scores in total on this rating scale. For example:
Hours of fun in the forest
Adventure Play Little Explorer is a product line where exploratory play and the magic of nature join, developed especially for toddlers and preschoolers. Enter the world full of adventure and discovery, where little explorers get inspired to push limits and stimulate their senses. Our play equipment is designed with sustainability, safety, inclusiveness and fun in mind, providing the ideal play environment for all young adventurers.
Exploratory play challenges children to leave their comfort zone, gain new skills and improve themselves. We encourage them to overcome obstacles, take risks, think creatively and push boundaries.
By doing so they gain self-confidence, develop resilience, and grow on both a physical and mental level. The various play elements with different textures and visual stimuli boost the development of both senses and imagination.
Allow your little explorer to take part in the ultimate forest adventure! Let them search for the bait that fell on the fishing bridge. Will they find all the fairy doors? After making sand pancakes in the kitchen of the forest house, they can pretend-eat them at the table with a set of mushroom stools.
The wooden playground equipment is manufactured from carefully selected, sustainable FSC®-certified wood which provide strength and stability. With rounded edges and safe structures, parents/carers can let their little adventurer play and explore along with full confidence.
Whilst playing, they expand their borders as they immerse themselves in the magical forest; offering many hours of fun!
The story of Ollie the Owl
“It was a peaceful evening in the deep, enchanted forest. I, Ollie the owl, was sitting high up in my favourite tree, my eyes wide open to observe every little detail of my beloved forest. Suddenly, I heard cheerful voices and the sound of children’s laughter whispering through the trees.”
“Curiously, I turned my head and peeked down. There, in the middle of the forest, an enchanting scene was unfolding. A group of little adventurers had made their way to a beautiful playground. They were glowing with enthusiasm and their eyes were sparkling like stars in the night. With each step, they discovered a new world full of adventure and imagination.”
“A boy skilfully climbed to the top of the the wooden watchtower. He waved to his friends and turned into a brave forest prince who watched over his kingdom. His imagination knew no boundaries, as did his courage to defy the balance route.”
“As I watched them this way, I felt the magic of the forest coming to life. The forest house, the observation tower and the wobbly bridge gave the little adventurers the freedom to dream, explore and grow. These offered them a setting for limitless fun and adventure, while I was watching as a silent witness.”
“The evening passed, but the memory of this enchanted encounter remained engraved in my heart. The forest and its play opportunities had left an unforgettable impression on the young adventurers.”
“I cherish the moments where I see children grow up and develop by pushing their boundaries in the magical forest.”

Sustainability and circularity
When developing play areas, we aim to make these as sustainable and circular as possible. We believe in the importance of protecting our planet, not only for the generation using our playgrounds now, but also for generations to follow.
1. Sustainable base materials
Our playground equipment is manufactured out of both recycled and recyclable materials such as recycled plastic and sustainable wood carrying FSC® certification. By doing so, we reduce the demand on valuable primary resources.
2. Long lifespan
We ensure that our playground equipment has a long lifespan. They can withstand intense weather conditions and intensive use; they will last for decades without the need of major repairs or replacements.
3. Modular adaptable playground equipment
This means that individual components can be replaced or upgraded. This allows the equipment to grow with the user’s needs, thereby further extending their life expectancy.
4. Reuse
When a piece of playground equipment reaches the end of its lifespan after a lengthy period, we inspect the parts for potential reuse. This reuse of parts allows us to design and produce playground equipment without being completely dependent on new base materials.
Playing is fun for everyone
Little Explorer fits everywhere
The products of the Adventure Play Little Explorer line are suitable for any location where toddlers and pre-schoolers can play. Think of a nursery, children’s centre, catering establishment, leisure park or local playground.
Energizers, structure seekers, builders and observers
A playground is more than a mere collection of play equipment. Children prefer to play in an environment with room for their own interpretation where there is sufficient “incentive” to do what they are ready for in terms of their development. When designing a playground, we look at the four play types of children; Energizers, Structure seekers, Builders and Observers. Each type of player has its own needs and wishes regarding play. Inclusivity
Each child is unique and has different abilities and needs. This is why we make sure the playground is suitable for children with different physical and cognitive abilities. We have added various play features to the Little Explorer product line, such as a kitchenette, a fishing rod and or bait. This way there is plenty to discover for everyone.
