BOERplay and miffy Miffy was “born” in 1955. While on holiday in Egmond aan Zee, Dick Bruna would tell his eldest son, Sierk, bedtime stories about a little, white bunny, who scampered around the garden of their holiday home. This bunny became the inspiration for Miffy. Later, when Dick began sketching Miffy, he decided he would prefer to draw the bunny in a little dress, rather than a pair of trousers, and so Miffy became a little girl bunny. In 1961 BOERplay was founded, supplying the (public) outdoor space with places to play, sport, meet and exercise. Entire generations of children have played on our playgrounds. We have always tried to make our playgrounds attractive and challenging for all kinds of children, whether they are energetic, structure seekers, builders or observers; there is something for everyone! We believe playing on a playground is not only purely ‘for fun’, but also helps children develop their fine motor-, physical-, social-, emotional- and cognitive skills. Especially In their early years, play and exercise are essential for the maturation of the brain
as it activates the connections and interaction between the left and right hemispheres of the brain. If both halves work well together, one can process stimuli and information much better. This collaboration not only has a positive influence on learning, but also on ones’ functioning in general and on ones’ well-being. In many countries, entire generations of children have grown up with Miffy through booklets, videos, clothing, et cetera. Miffy has a high natural appeal to toddlers. With Miffy playground equipment, children can now discover the world of Miffy in an entirely new way. Highly recognizable, and full of tactile elements that stimulate both fine motor skills and imagination.With these products, children can act out Miffy’s many adventures and of course create their own. And after they are done playing, nothing is more fun than sitting together with their parents in the reading chair, looking at/ listening to new stories.
