Mappin Simmentals

20th Annual Bull Sale

Presented by

MARCH 1, 2025 - 4PM

AT THE FARM, BYEMOOR AB

Welcome to the 20th Annual Mappin Simmentals /Silver Smith Farms Bull sale. A lot has changed over the past 20 years, yet much remains the same. The cattle market is as strong as it’s ever been, and for this we are thankful. As always, thank you to our previous buyers, we value your trust and your support. Same format as last year, we are having a live sale on the farm and broadcasting via DLMS for online bidding.

We strongly encourage you to visit the farm in the weeks prior to the sale to analyse the offering, along with the dams, sires and sisters of the sale bulls. We would be happy to recommend bulls to you that will suit your needs and work in your unique cowherd. We are proud to offer diverse pedigrees that can’t be found everywhere and are a true outcross to many herds. We have had several visitors comment on how dark red and hairy the pen is this year. We feel strongly that part of our job as a seedstock producer is to offer exceptional reproduction genetics. As such, we utilize a VERY short 42 day breeding season. We continue to believe this means you get a bull with the best reproductive potential possible, a trait that is vitally important to all cattlemen.

All bulls will have passed a semen evaluation and will be ready to work as of sale day. Every bull in the sale is a registered Purebred and will come with an included transfer of paper. Sale weights will be available just prior to the sale day. Actual BW, WW and YW are shown on the paper and yes – we do own a calf scale and use it. For our customers use, we will be frame scoring again this year, and will be posting this data with the sale weight for your reference.

The bulls were weaned a little later than average in mid September, and are being fed a TMR, consisting of barley silage, cut hay, pea straw, super oats, a few split peas, and rolled barley along with a custom mineral pack. We work closely with Delta Animal Solutions, Jack Fisher, to ensure the bulls are developed on a balanced ration, high in forage and nutritional value. They have again been an extremely healthy group with lots of energy, so expect to see fresh, well developed, free moving bulls ready to work on sale day.

For the 2nd year in a row, we are offering a group of 25, Non Registered replacement heifers. These beautiful ladies will be sorted and sold in groups of 3-4 head. These females are straight out of our “keeper” replacement pen and will be outstanding mother cows. This is a great opportunity to augment your own replacement pen with some very proven genetics. More details are listed in the inside back cover under lot 63.

March 1st is coming quickly. Please give us a call to discuss any of our bulls on offer or make plans to come to the farm in the weeks prior to the sale OR during the sale day viewing from 2-4 pm. We look forward to seeing you. Maureen & Eric

Mappin Simmentals/Silver Smith Farms implements a comprehensive herd health program developed with Lacombe Veterinary Centre. The cows and bulls are all SelectVac GOLD+ verified. ANCHOR D SUPERMAN 443K

HOMO POLLED 1399612 JANUARY 1, 2022

REFERENCE SIRE TO LOTS 1-10

Superman is a bull who was intriguing to me on paper, but was a must have when we saw him at Anchor D in 2023. Cherry red, blaze faced with a beautiful foot, Superman’s progeny are very similar in type. He is a very aggressive breeder and his calves are born very easily, but with plenty of grow and stoutness. If you are an EPD person, Superman has got quite a set.

Mothered by the high selling cow at the WLB dispersal, who is also Top Tiers mother, this moderate framed, blaze faced cow’s influence runs deep, as progeny of Superman definitely take after his mother. Superman’s sire, Tycoon, needs no introduction, as he has been widely used for his cherry red color and excellent foot quality.

MOES EVERYBODY’S IRISH 110M lot 1

HOMO POLLED 1460482 JANUARY 19, 2024

Like all of the Superman calves, Everybody’s Irish continues to impress me throughout the winter as he develops into a great herdbull prospect. Dark red with a big hip and middle that ties together in a smooth package, he will add a ton of value to his calves both male and female. I love his skull shape and overall look.

Mothered by a moderated framed, big middled Roar daughter who is good footed and very functional. She has a daughter working in our herd and is the mother of lot 7, as well as a son working in Louis Hermus’ herd.

As time goes on this bull just keeps impressing me more with his presence and jam. He will be one to watch for on sale day.

Mothered by a larger framed dark red Chief cow who is very unassuming, but gets the job done. Good uddered and big middled, this young matron has sent a bull to work out at Redwing Farms, and we have a daughter producing in our herd.

Ciderhouse continues to be one of the powerhouse bulls in the pen this year. Cherry red with a bold blaze face, he has been a standout since a young age, weaning off at over 1000 lbs last fall, he has got excellent frame, bone, dark feet and a herd bull look.

Mothered by an excellent Chief daughter who goes back to the Twin Chief Rancher bull, expect longevity, superior udder structure and great feet, combined with that dark red color. A cow that is often picked out by visitors for her mass and volume, feminine look, and huge calf at foot.

Super Dirty is another well put together red blaze face Superman son who fits into the group of big topped, deep middled herd bull prospects that Superman sired for us. Great length of body and thickness, he will sire those beautiful blaze faced females that command premiums as replacements.

Mothered by a beautiful solid red Landmark daughter. We used Landmark to try and build a herdbull for ourselves, and managed to get all heifers-however these females are very, very good cows. Good uddered and good footed with lots of middle.

Super Hot is a super athletic, dark red blaze faced bull who will work in a variety of situations and add a ton of value to his calves. Hairy and stout, he is moderate framed but with lots of stretch and flex.

Mothered by a fleck influenced cow we purchased from the great KSL program at Beaverlodge, she has fit right in here, her first calf going through last year’s sale in a female package, and this bull being her second calf. An easy keeping, good footed female with a different twist in pedigree

MOES HAPPY HOUR 1101M

lot 7

MOES COINTREAU 82M

lot 8

Happy Hour is a good haired solid red, solid made Superman calf who was moderate at birth but continues to grow and develop well. Similar in type to his ¾ brother, lot 1, I often have to read their tags as I can’t really tell them apart at first glance.

Born to a moderate framed 2nd calver, she is out of the strongly maternal Goose bull who left us with hard working useful momma cows. A good young cow.

lot 9

Cointreau is a moderate solid red Superman son who has great length and width over his top. He came into the world at a mere 84 lbs., and has some highly maternal blood in a different pedigree.

82J is an unassuming 2nd calver who has a bright future-the Regulator cows are cookie cutter in their type, being hairy, middle-sized cows with square tidy udders and lots of depth of body. A young matron with a unique pedigree for us and a bright future.

lot 10 MOES BOY RYE RYE 310M MOES TAILGATER 212M

Tailgater is a dark red, good haired, solid made Superman son. Born a twin, he was a bit smaller at birth, but vigorous and has made up for lost time, weaning off at almost 800 lbs. He is an athletic bull who should be able to cover some ground.

Mothered by a deep bodied Venom cow, who goes back to Gunner and a really good Sunny Valley Panama cow, great udders, feet, and longevity are bred in. She calved early again in 2025.

My Boy Rye Rye is the only black Superman calf we had this year. Long spined, smooth made, with an exceptional set of balanced numbers. He was born at a mere 86 lbs., but still weaned off big in the fall. Rye Rye could be used in a variety of situations-and being black blaze faced, he will add a ton of value to his calves.

Mothered by a big volume black Chief cow, she did a great job by having him in the barn during a cold snap, and then licking his ears until they froze during a little cold snap in February. She is an excellent matron, good uddered with lots of volume, and longevity with the 310Y cow being her mother.

ADAIR RANCH 916G

ADAIR RANCH 446B

Bruce was our pick of Adair Ranch’s offering in 2023-with a big, square, black foot, deep ribbed with plenty of muscle and a different pedigree. His first breeding season he bred cows and heifers, and with his great calving ease history, we turned him into the heifer pen in 2024. Bulls and heifer calves alike are stout, hairy, with depth and thickness. All were born unassisted.

Mothered by a Red Summit cow who belongs to one of Ken’s favourite cow families. As good as the Bruce son’s are, I am most excited about the heifers coming up as they look to be outstanding. A bull with a great set of EPD’s.

MOES GOT SOME KICK 241M

HOMO POLLED 1460485 JANUARY 20, 2024

Got Some Kick is just that-a deep red standout in the bull pen for his presence and mass. Black footed, good bone and muscle shape, Kick will sire those stout, good performing calves the industry is craving, along with those females everyone wants in their herd. Weaning off just shy of 900 lbs., off of a 1st calf heifer who bred back early.

Mothered by a heifer we purchased from a good, up and coming young cattleman, J.R. Good, she did an exceptional job on her 1st calf. Delivering him unassisted, he was up and going in a matter of minutes and never looked back. She is a rich red, larger framed cow with exceptional udder quality.

N V Abull is a Bruce son that is easy to find in the pen, he is a big, soggy dude. Deep middled with a thick top, good quarter and a free moving stride, he will have friends on sale day looking for that power and performance. Weaning off at over 900 lbs., his steers will have plenty of pay weight. A pen favorite.

Mothered by a larger framed coming 13 year old black cow who always weans off a big calf. Sometimes these older cows put a bit more placenta punch in their calves and birth weights are steamier, however she always pops them out and gets them up and going quickly. An excellent footed, good uddered cow who could pass for half her age.

Sweet N Salty is a real performance type bull, in a super easy going, blaze faced package. The performance, mass, muscle shape and bone is admirable. He weaned off just shy of 900 lbs. this fall and has kept growing and gaining at a fast pace. He will sire those heavy duty steers that the feedlots love to feed.

Mothered by a larger framed, blaze faced Chief daughter who has sent two sons through the sale prior years, to Coppock Legacy Farms, Castor, and Roy Zakariasen, Standard. She has fantastic udder structure like all of the Chief cows.

Our pick and the high seller at Westway Farms Ltd. bull sale in 2023, this big stout hairy beast was a standout for his mass and presence. Great birth to weaning spread, and his EPD profile supports the actual numbers we are seeing in his progeny, being in the top 25% for calving ease, and the top 5% and 10% for weaning and yearling respectively. We only got a few calves this first year, but they are exceptional and are cookie cutter in type, with length of spine, hair, and muscle shape.

Mothered by a Roosevelt first calver who is a larger framed, big middled cow with a beautiful udder, and Top Tier, the curve bender calving ease bull. This is likely one of the most notable cow families in the WFL program.

TYMARC CHIEF 48D MOES MISTERIA CHIEF 91F NUG MISS 90Z

The final of the 4 Top Shelf sons, with a lot to offer-length, thickness, and that heavy hair coat. Likely the darkest red of the brothers, born unassisted like all of the bulls in the sale, he was a bit larger at birth, but continued on that growth curve, weaning off at over 900 lbs. in September. Although this bull will offer exceptional growth and pay-weight to his calves, his true strength may be in the fantastic females he should sire.

Mothered by a front pasture type Chief daughter, 91F is always picked out by visitors for her deep red color, pear shape, and tidy square udder structure. Chief cows are unassuming, very useful cows who just work.

LRX BIG RED “CLIFFORD” 105J

Purchased from Robb Farms as one of their high sellers in 2022, ‘Clifford’ is massive framed, huge black footed and cherry red. Clifford sires those big framed, with good bone, growthy bulls and heifers our breed is needing, but in very sound, very useful packages. We are calving the 1st daughters this spring and are very pleased with what we are seeing to date-tidy udders with great maternal value.

MOES PAINTED RED 7M

Painted Red is a really complete end of January herd sire who is a favorite for his mass, larger frame size, big black foot, and quiet personality. He weaned off at 800 lbs. and then really took off when he came in on feed; he should add muscle and length which will result in pay weight.

AJB MACHO MAN 16H

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to tour the exceptional AJB herd in Manitoba. There was a red cow there that day that I couldn’t get out of my mind; she was the deepest bodied, best footed, broodiest cow I had seen on my tour in MB. Fast forward a few years, and Amy calls me and says that 8A cow had a bull calf, would we be interested, and he’s out of the cow maker, 3C Macho. The rest, as they say, is history.

Macho’s 4th calf crop is arriving in 2025, his first heifers are now 2nd calvers, and we are still grateful I happened to stumble across the 8A cow in my travels. Easy keeping, heavy haired, good footed cows that will have that amazing longevity.

MOES CONVICTION 200M

Conviction is a bull that will be easy to find on sale day-stout, long, and hairy. 2023 breeding season we bred a few more power red cows to Macho and Conviction is one of the results. Being one of the younger bulls in the pen has not slowed this big fella down. I have a lot of Conviction that he will do great things in just about anyone’s breeding program.

When great cow families are stacked, the guesswork is removed. Conviction is mothered by a cherry red Brooks daughter we hold in high regard for her mass and broodiness. She mothered our high selling red bull in 2023 who sold to Bar CL and Twin Springs, and reports are in that he is an awesome breeding piece. Another son is working at Luv-n-it Cattle Co., AB

MOES DEVILS HANDSHAKE

Devil’s Handshake is one handsome devil! Stout, heavy haired with lots of muscle shape and top, he will sire those heavy duty, good converting steers that feedlots want to feed. Longevity, foot quality, and easy doing are all attributes of this cow family, meaning female progeny should be at the top of the replacement pen. His full sister calved this spring and she is an awesome young matron.

Mothered by a 12 year old Stubby cow who is large framed, deep bodied and good uddered. She got a knee injury during breeding season which plagued her through the summer and impacted her bulls weaning wt, but she is bred back to calve early in 2025. She has two bulls working in Greg Standings good herd, as well as Jace Poffenroth’s.

Overboard is another really stout and hairy Macho son who will add a ton of value to British based cows in the form of muscle shape and hip. Wide topped, good haired and smooth fronted, bulls and heifer calves will be very good and very marketable.

Mothered by a moderate framed, tidy uddered Shock N Awe cow who has sent bulls to Greg Standing, Triple K Farms Ltd., Anchor D Ranch, and Madge Simmentals. 501D stifled herself but still managed to raise this last calf as best she could. A fantastic, hard working, cow family with excellent foot quality and longevity.

High Road is a lower birthwt, end of February, Macho son. Long spined, thick topped with the Macho look, he will sire those big time maternal females that are so in demand to rebuild the shrinking cowherd. A maternal brother sold last year to Yellow Rose Cattle Co. and Hampton Simmentals.

Mothered by a large framed direct Red Mountain daughter. The Red Mountain cattle are very maternal with a shot of calving ease. Big middled, good uddered cows who do their jobs and keep their condition year round. Good productive cow family.

Undertow is a big time performance blaze faced bull with a unique pedigree, being a red son of Macho and weaning off at 900 lbs. He is stamped with that heavy hair, big hip and top, and that powerful herdbull look. He will be one to really stamp those replacement females with that valuable blaze face.

Mothered by a blaze faced cow held in high regard around here for her year round condition and her production of excellent bulls and females. Sons are working at Hayes Land & Cattle, and Darryl Freison’s good cowherd. One of the few remaining Dirty Hairy daughters in the herd as they have aged out.

MOES CRUISE WEIGHT

Cruise Weight is another super stout, red blaze faced Macho son who patterns very similarly to his brothers. Big hipped, big topped with heavy hair, and excellent bone and structure. A bull that should breed for years and add value with that money stripe.

Mothered by a black blaze faced Ballistics daughter who has been a really good producer. The Ballistics cows are good milking cows in a larger frame, but with plenty of middle and muscle shape. This good young cow has sent bulls through the sale who are working at Jace Poffenroth’s, and Mathieu Farms’ good programs.

lot 44

MOES BACKFIRE 430F MOES RANCHIN 47J MAPPINS RANCHIN 47U

Woodstock is the only solid red Macho son, but is thick topped and heavy haired like his brothers. Born at just 87 lbs. to his 2nd calving mom, he has done well this winter on feed. He will be a moderate framed bull that should last several seasons.

Mothered by a red blaze faced hard working young Backfire cow. She is moderate framed and tidy uddered like all the Backfire females. Woodstock is likely to throw blaze faces on his progeny, as we find these bulls mothered by blaze faced cows often will sire those blaze faced calves.

MOES MAKE PEACE NOT WAR 301M

lot 45

HOMO POLLED 1460392 JANUARY 15, 2024 WELSH’S WARSAW 312Z

We love our State of War calves, and Make Peace is a prime example of why. Born at 81 lbs. to a 1st calf heifer and then weaning off at 800 lbs., the birth to weaning spread is fantastic. Solid black, good haired with muscle shape and smoothness. He will work in a variety of situations to add calving ease, and maternal value, without losing performance. If you like EPD’s, he is quite the curve bender on paper too.

Mothered by a beautiful, moderate framed, belly dragging 1st calf heifer, who raised this big bull, and bred back early. She has been picked out by visitors since she was just a young calf for her pear shaped profile.

MOES ACCOMPLICE 430H

HOMO POLLED 1331003 JANUARY 25, 2020

Accomplice has been a great breeding piece, siring those deep, dark red bulls and females with the unusual combination of tremendous length of body, and depth. His first daughters are now having their 2nd calves, and we are very pleased with the type of cows they are turning into. He has a unique pedigree for many red Simmental herds.

Mothered by a belly-dragging King Ranch 55W cow who we held in very high regard for her mothering ability, outstanding production, and outcross pedigree.

MOES BLOODHOUND 22M

HOMO POLLED 1460398 JANUARY 17, 2024

Bloodhound is a favorite in the pen, and not just for his purple/red color. Long spined, thick topped with great muscle shape and a big black foot. Moderate at birth, with excellent growth, he will add a pile of substance and value to his offspring. If you are hunting that elusive deep purple color, he will likely do the job. A maternal brother sold to Ryan King, SK in last year’s sale.

Mothered by a good young black cow who is a Backfire daughter-her grandmother is another foundation cow, Blackranch 201Z, and her mother is the dam of lot 25. Longevity, and excellent udder structure.

MOES JOHNNY ON THE SPOT 884M

VIRGINIA REDCARPET MAPPINS DIRTY ACE 884B MAPPINS RED LEGACY 884P

Johnny on the Spot is another dark red Accomplice son who will add top, rear quarter, length and pounds. Another one of those moderate birthwt bulls who grew well over the summer and continued to flourish on feed this winter. This pen of Accomplice bulls are very uniform is type, color and what they will contribute to your breeding program.

Mothered by a good producing Dirty Hairy daughter who has sent several sons through the sale, including to Bob Campbell, Tateson Ranch, and Randy Campbell. She also spent a few years in our recipient pen as she is fertile, highly maternal, and a good milker.

MOES FALLBACK FRED 122M

CHIEF 48D

Fallback Fred has been another one of those bulls who has really developed over the winter-great hip structure and muscling, combined with length and thickness, he will add a ton of value to a pen of feed steers and replacement females. When you see his mother, you will want to keep all of his daughters.

Mothered by a moderate good young Chief cow who is excellent uddered, good colored, and very feminine fronted. She has several sisters working in our herd, and a full brother was a herdbull for KD/SIBL Simmentals. Great cow family as her mother keeps cranking out these fantastic matrons.

MOES BORDER PATROL

OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE 104C

MOES MISS STEAKHOUSE

Border Patrol is a really great blend of some of our herdsires over the years-Cowboss, Steakhouse, King Ranch, and of course, Accomplice. All of these herdsires were super deep red and contributed to Border Patrol’s rich red color, thickness and overall mass. He will add a ton of rib and muscle shape to his calves, as well as that rich color and heavy hair.

Mothered by a beautiful Steakhouse daughter who is a medium size cow with a great udder, plenty of depth of rib, and do ability. She has an excellent daughter working in our herd and a bright future of production.

Over Served was born twins with his brother at a mere 81 lbs. Momma didn’t really care for little brother so this fella got momma all to himself after the 1st month. He is a big square hipped, wide topped bull with good hair and big testicles.

Mothered by a heavy milking Anchor D cow who always does a great job on her calf. Her daughter is lot 17’s mother. Good foot structure, do ability and fertility in this cow family.

Besito is another twin bull, born with a twin sister. His momma raised them both for about a month. He is another good haired, big middled, deep chested Accomplice son who should sire some really good replacement females.

Mothered by a larger framed Chief daughter who is deep ribbed with lots of volume. Carter Renscher, Castor, picked up her good Accomplice son in last year’s sale. lot 49

HOMO POLLED 1496323 FEBURARY 23, 2024

Bumbu will be easy to pick out on sale day-dark red, heavy haired with a ton of rib, and muscle shape. An end of February bull who has done a really good job keeping up with his older pen mates. Black footed, easy moving, and an easy going demeanor. His females should be tremendous.

Mothered by a real solid Rimmer cow-she is a belly dragger but super feminine and easy on the eyes. She is really nice footed, hairy, and easy going. Last year’s heifer calf was Tulsa’s 2023-24, 4-H project-just ask Tulsa and she will tell you all about her heifer Paprika!

BROOKS 669D

51G

Home Boy is a long, thick meat machine that will add muscle, hip, and top into his calves. He would work in a situation where maternal strength is needed as well as frame moderation without giving up pounds and performance.

Mothered by a real good blaze faced Brooks cow that stems back to the original 51K cow family. This cow was given the old matriarch’s number and has been an excellent producer like her predecessors. Two son’s have sold through the sale in prior years, to Gadsby Colony, and to Twin Creek Angus.

Nine to Five is a really stout, moderate framed herd bull will a ton of middle and thickness from front to back, and the youngest bull on offer. Due to a herd bull shortfall we had, and had to AI a few cows we hadn’t intended on AI’ing. As a result we got a few of these Homegrown bulls a little later born, but super good in quality. Athletic and free moving.

Mothered by a medium framed Venom cow who is deep bodied and tidy uddered. These Venom females are turning into great producers, with excellent feet, great doability and good dispositions. This cow sent a popular son through the sale last year and he is working at Coppock Legacy Farm, Castor.

Grow Op is a big time performance bull who will work to add pounds at weaning time, and resulting cash in your pocket. Heavy steers are worth big bucks and Grow Op will sire those steers who have hip, top and middle-the kind the feedlots want to feed.

Mothered by a big bodied, larger framed Steakhouse daughter, she has daughters in our herd and always wean’s off one of the heavier calves. Great cow family going back to the foundation cow, 1722N.
