Southwest showcase bull sale Welcome from Transcon Livestock Great bulls, great people! A huge bonus here is the fact these bulls are born, bred and raised in Southern Saskatchewan, developed for the environment in which they sell. Off the Eastern slopes of the Cypress Hills is the beautiful X Bar T Ranch, owned by the Lundberg Family. We are proud to call these people more than customers, but real good friends, and we collectively boast that they have sold cattle for more than 50 consecutive years, encompassing three family generations, with Transcon Livestock Corp! No doubt you need to “adjust your sights” when appraising these “April” born fellas. What I saw in the bull pen on my tour with Ryan in January was a wonderful set of naturally thick, super hairy set of bulls that showed off their sire groups, particularly “Missile”. The bull himself was standing in the pen next to his sons and is simply a specimen. The Scherger Family and ourselves also have a long track record and we are pleased to see Lane & Kacie (& Kale on certain weekends!) continuing on with the efforts that Tim & Kathy have laid before them. On that same January tour, this pen offered me a good cross-section of brothers that were sired by their own resident herdsires and some notable industry A.I. Sires. This bullpen is one of the quietest I’ve seen anywhere in my travels! Add to that, the fact they are big-ribbed, easy-doing, naturally long-bodied and well muscled, just a real nice set of beef bulls that will excel well in prairie conditions. Move to Boundary Ranch and we find people who really live the ranch life. Not only operating a purebred Simmental herd East of the Consul prairies, there is also a purebred Angus herd, a remuda of Quarter Horses and a large commercial herd all owned and operated by different family members. Here’s a bullpen that is being responsibly developed for longevity but also showing their genetic promise. Many of these bulls have Daddies that have bragging rights as former high sellers for Boundary Ranch, of which they retained semen on these top bulls they have bred to use in their own program. The Southwest Showcase consignors reserve the right to collect semen on any bull in the sale for their in-herd use only. Any questions please contact the consignors.

BULL DEVELOPMENT & DELIVERY

The Southwest Showcase consignors will keep bulls free of charge until May 1st, 2020. Buyers need to insure the bulls while being cared for by the consignors. Option A Bulls can be picked up at Heartland Livestock sale day and a $100 discount will be deducted from the sale price Option B At the buyer’s option and risk, the bulls can be returned to the consignor’s farm and picked up anytime at the buyer’s convenience. Option C Please make arrangements with the consignor if trucking is required.

EPD EXPLANATION

EPDs are “Expected Progeny Differences”. They are a useful tool in selection. EPDs incorporate the individual animal with its averaged ancestry performance. EPDs do not compare across cattle breeds, they are individually based per breed. EPDs indicate a probable variance above or below breed average for that trait for a given bull’s progeny. Use them for guidance in the direction you want your herd to go. With the release of the BOLT system, data is transmitted to the evaluation weekly and new results are loaded weekly. This means that averages and percentiles are subject to ongoing change. Please use the CSA website for the most up to date and accurate averages and percentile rank infomation. EPDs for this catalogue were taken on February 10.

If you are unable to attend the sale but are interested in bulls, give the consignors a call and they will personally go over the bulls and your program and recommend bulls that would meet your needs and refer you to one of the sale staff who will represent your needs in a professional and confidential manner.

All bulls are guaranteed to be satisfactory breeders in accordance with CSA guidelines. Should a problem occur barring physical injury or mismanagement, a bull of equal value will be provided or a credit will be issued towards the purchase of another bull. We guarantee you will have a bull to service your cows.

HEALTH AND FERTILITY

All bulls will have a scrotal measurement and a vet examination done prior to the sale. All bulls over 12 months of age will also be semen tested; any bulls under 12 months of age will return to the seller’s farm to be tested after the sale. These bulls will be delivered once a semen test has been passed. All bulls have been treated with Ivomec and have current vaccinations. Contact the breeder for specific herd health programs.

A stout, big volume, big hipped, wide topped, Esquire son out of a good uddered “Capone” daughter. His grandam is the SVS Red Nikki 11X cow that has a feature son that sells (Lot 4). If this bull was the same age as the rest of the offering, he would be at the top of the pen. EPDs top 35%BW. Take a second look at this quality, younger bull, with a proven pedigree. Homozygous Polled

ET bull off one of my favorite cows to ever walk this place. 83G is the male version of his Donor Dam. Big, powerful, sound, with a sweet disposition. She was Champion Cow at Ranchmen’s multiple times because of her beautiful phenotype, perfect udder and ability to produce. She also had the high selling heifer calf at CWA to Ter-ron, the high selling bull calf at this sale, and 2 daughters in herd. Isabella’s udder quality is still superb at 12 years old, and her ability to pass this trait on is unmatched. Her granddaughter has a son in the sale (Lot 9), and no big surprise, she’s built like Grandma. Red Mountain calves easy, has sired excellent, heavy milking daughters and some of our high selling bull calves. 83G had EPDs top 30% CE & BW, 10%MILK, 25%MCE, 20%MWWT. He also had the 2nd highest actual WW and YW of the red bulls. Big performance bull with tons of maternal potential. Homozygous Polled

Dark red, long bodied, and has near perfect feet, Renegade was selected for the heifer pen with hopes he would also work well on cows. With his daughters entering production this year, we can say that appears to be the case. Part of a flush that averaged $25,000 including “Sleep Easy” marketed by Bohrson. His Dam MRL 836W also raised “Capone” who worked well here and “El Tigre”. Renegade calves easy, improves udder quality, moderates’ size and his progeny have dispositions second to none. Welcome to our 11th annual Southwest Showcase bull sale. We’ve been raising these cattle for a lot of years and they seem to fly by faster every year. I think we have brought you our best selection of bulls ever. There are larger framed power bulls, top end heifer bulls, and something to suit every cow herd in between. The bulls are hand fed a 14% bull ration, crested wheat hay, and 20% lick tubs. They are fed to be grown out and just be in good condition at sale time. They will not be over conditioned and will not melt down when they are out with your cows.

Our cow herd has been developed over 50 years to look after themselves. They graze year-round on native grass and are supplement fed on pasture over the winter. There is no room for slackers here. They have to be good footed, good uddered, and fertile or they are gone! A sincere thank you to all past buyers and a warm welcome to all first-time buyers. We spend a lot of resources and time accessing top end genetics to help you improve your cow herds.

The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made previous to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should any purchaser fail to settle for his purchase Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released.

BID Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. DISPUTES In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final. PURCHASER’S RISK Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale but no risk is assumed by the Sales Management or Seller. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instructions when making settlement.

BREEDERS GUARANTEE As per applicable Canadian Breed

Association Breeding Guarantee guidelines. Copies are available at the sale settlement desk to be picked up by the buyer at any time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for reimbursing more than the purchase price.

EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE

In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void.

HEALTH It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province or state. Transcon Livestock Corp. assumes no responsibility for the health status of any animal in the sale. ACCIDENTS

Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sales Management, auctioneer, consignors. or Association assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS The above terms and conditions

of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.
