The
Boise Weekly 2O13 Gift Guide
READY, SET, SHOP The holidays are at hand. Yes, it’s once again time to hit the stores in a spree of consumerism as you search for the perfect gift for everyone on your list before giving up, threatening to buy them all beef jerky from the convenience store and collapsing into an eggnog-induced haze. And it’s not like our friends and relatives make it any easier on us. There is no one-size-fits-all gift for the personalities in our lives, and some of those characters are even harder to buy for than others. You know the type: the person who has everything already, the one who only buys locally made products or the dreaded teenager who hates everything. That’s why for this year’s annual Boise Weekly Gift Guide, we’ve decided to address your needs by offering picks designed specifically for the difficult-to-buy-for. And, yes, our archetypes are a little over the top, but odds are most of us can identify a few of these folks in our own lives. Regular Gift Guide readers will also notice a shift in our approach to gift buying. Rather than putting the focus on specific items, we’re recommending stores that carry items each of these groups will love. All of the businesses we are recommending are locally owned and operated (of course), and we make note of a few particularly cool things at each of them. Since the Treasure Valley is filled with so many great gift-giving options, this is in no way a complete listing of stores, but think of it as a jumping off point from which to go and explore for yourself. Maybe this year you won’t have to resort to panicked Christmas Eve impulse buying. Maybe. —Deanna Darr

Gift shops aren’t typically holiday shopping hot-spots—snowglobes and decorative spoons being less than inspiring presents for most receivers. That couldn’t be further from the truth at Boise Art Museum. The jewelry, clothing, home decor and objets d’art—many of them related to BAM exhibitions—offered at the shop are imminently unique, tasteful and (bonus) proceeds directly benefit the museum. That’s two gifts in one; plus, if you’re a BAM member, count on 10 percent discounts.
