In 2009 Jody and Jessica shared an affinity for offering movement in a respectful, beautiful and safe environment. Their combined vision resulted in Boise's first physical therapy clinic and Pilates studio alliance. Although individually owned, the two businesses share a mission to offer a positive movement experience while empowering people to participate fully in life.

These days, about 1 in 20 people suffer from Compulsive Hoarding Disorder. If left unchecked, it can lead to serious health hazards and safety concerns, which is why it causes 22% of evictions, according to a 2012 study.1 Physical Therapy at Thrive, LLC exists to facilitate patients on their journey to healing, recovery from surgery, pain management, optimal health and highest function. Our team of physical therapists utilize hands-on techniques, movement quality training and enthusiastic education. We understand that a hoarding matter is a deeply emotional and challenging time in the lives of all parties involved, and many times affects all aspects of a person’s life. The family members and loved ones of a hoarder often feel helpless and unable to cope with this situation, and do not know how or where to even begin to look for help. This is why people turn to Bio-One to assist them in addressing these types of situations. We are BOIS

Boise Weekly has been around longer than the age of some people who work here. It was founded in 1992 by Andy and Debi Hedden-Nicely, two daring innovators, they built the foundation upon which we continue to grow and who are, to this day, my good friends and mentors, as are former owners Larry Ragan, who bought the paper in 1997; and my colleagues at the City of Roses Newspaper Company (owners of Willamette Week, the Santa Fe Reporter and The Indy). Had someone asked me before I bought Boise Weekly in 2001 if I could see myself running a newspaper, I probably would have said no. If someone were to ask me now if I could imagine not having owned Boise Weekly, my answer would again be no. I take my leadership of Boise Weekly very seriously, and I am driven by a sense of responsibility to make a difference in this wonderful community I moved to sight-unseen so many years ago and now proudly call my home. The beginnings of the alternative press stemmed from people feeling disenfranchised with “the establishment” and its control over media. Publishers who were driven by journalistic pursuit over profits began building newspapers that became the papers of choice for a generation that did not identify with mainstream media. They still are. My daughter is studying science at BSU. Though she works a few hours a week at Boise Weekly, she has no aspirations

to pursue publishing, which isn’t surprising—she has watched me struggle to keep the dream alive. We went to see Oscar-nominated movie The Post, which is based on the true story of Katharine Graham, the Washington Post publisher, who made a bold decision in 1979 to report on leaked classified documents relating to the Vietnam War—something other papers had been barred from doing. The movie was a poignant reminder of the depth of my responsibility and the importance of alternative journalism. When I asked my daughter what she thought, she said “Boise Weekly has always been a huge part of my life, but I have only recently realized the importance of the independent press to our democracy. I am proud to be part of a family that is really trying to make a genuine difference in the world.” In the current landscape of an inconsistent application of standards and lack of trust in news, the independent media—including Boise Weekly—is more important than ever, especially as the divisions in our country deepen and corporate takeover of media continues. The details that have emerged about the new leadership of LA Weekly illustrate the affect changes in ownership have over the underlying mission. Brian Calle, one of a group of investors who purchased LA Weekly, has been put in charge of the paper. Calle comes from the Claremont Institute and according to the OC Register, he “worked as vice president of the Claremont Institute and as

a congressional aide in the United States House of Representatives.” According to its website, the Claremont Institute “has identified the principles that will be necessary to defeat progressivism. We teach the principles of the American Founding, and their application today, to the brightest young conservative men and women who will, with our help, go on to positions of power and influence in government, the courts, academia and the media.” It seems that the new owners have an agenda and plan to use LA Weekly as a vehicle to undermine the very principles that define the mission of the alternative press. Every day, we are assaulted by news from and about the current administration, which is trying to drown out its detractors with a misrepresentation of facts, venomous name calling, unfounded accusations and blame, referring to anything that doesn’t support the party line as “fake news.” The hypocrisy is astounding, and the tone is set by the president himself. It is all too familiar, and The Post serves as a great reminder to us all that good journalism might be the only way out. I hope more of the estimated 75 million millennials in the U.S. see The Post and are inspired to read newspapers. Sincerely, Sally Freeman Owner/Publisher Boise Weekly

Without them, there wouldn’t be Boise Weekly. We will continue to fight the good fight, reminded by the words of Katharine Graham: “If we had failed to pursue the facts as far as they led, we would have denied the public any knowledge of an unprecedented scheme of political surveillance and sabotage.” Recently, I asked Andy and Debi why they started Boise Weekly. Andy said, “My vision in starting Boise Weekly in 1992 began with the idea that Boise had grown into a city large enough to support an independent alternative newsweekly—a paper for the rest of us, if you will. A local publication that had a sense of purpose and a sense of humor. A paper that would bring new ideas and perspective to our increasingly diverse community. That’s what we tried to publish when we started, and that’s what is still being published today.”
