bicycle parking facilities

Safe cycling in the largest cycle parking facility in the world There’s good reason for being ranked the second-best cycling city in the world (according to Lonely Planet). Near Utrecht Central Station – the largest public transport hub in the Netherlands – a project involving the construction of five large cycle parking facilities has been underway for a number of years. Once completed this will provide spaces for about 22,000 cyclist to park their bikes. A top priority for a cycle parking facility is the safety of the cyclists. In addition to safety, ease of use is also important for the new parking facility. What makes the now completed facility special is that it is a ‘bike through’ facility: the idea is that users are able to reach a free spot without having to dismount and walk their bike. Once you’ve found your spot, you have plenty of space to get off and park your bike without inconveniencing other people parking around you. That’s all fine and well, but how do you ever find a spot in a parking facility of that size?! Very simply: clear signage on the floor combined with electronic signage guide you to the available spots.

Bolidt flooring systems for bicycle parking facilities The Netherlands is very much a nation of cyclists. With an average of 1.3 bicycles per person, the Netherlands is still the only country in the world that has more bikes than inhabitants. Finding a place to park your bicycle can be a problem though, especially in the big cities and at Park & Walk/Park & Ride locations. Creating ground level or underground cycle parking facilities can help address this problem. This enhances the quality of life and accessibility in the local community, giving playing children, pedestrians, cyclists and greenery more space. Safety for users Having the right floor finish helps make for a clear, orderly, light cycle parking facility and it increases the safety of the users. Bolidt has specific solutions for the various zones of a cycle parking facility. For example, we advise the use of a non-slip finish on the bike lanes to keep cyclists from slipping. On the walkways and parking areas as well, a non-slip finish puts the users on secure footing. Safety is not just about slip resistance though: markings and signage also play an important role. To prevent collisions and dangerous situations, cycle and pedestrian routes and the parking areas need to be clearly segregated using visual cues. Our Boligrip® flooring systems can be supplied in a variety of colours; in addition to providing a beautiful aesthetic touch this makes surface markings really stand out. The bright colours give the parking facility a fresh look, which also helps make the visitor feel safe and secure. The Boligrip® flooring systems are also wear-resistant and so extremely durable. In other words, using Bolidt flooring systems prevents unsafe situations posed by wear and tear. And last but not least, the installed floors are easy to clean, meaning users won’t have to worry about slipping on muddy floors. Liquid tight Bolidt flooring systems are both seamless and liquid tight, making it impossible for water and other liquids to penetrate the surface and damage the structure below. They also form an impenetrable barrier against substances like road salt, a crucial property. When this road salt seeps through to the subfloor it causes structural damage and eventually leads to corrosion in the rebar in the concrete. Everything under one roof In addition to experience and specialist knowledge, Bolidt has even more to offer: reliability. Take, for example, the construction of the world’s largest cycle parking facility, a project which took years to complete. Bolidt has the experience and the people to handle such a major project. Developing, manufacturing and installing the synthetic floors as well as the advice that goes with this is entirely in our own hands. Thanks to this, Bolidt does not depend on other parties and can independently meet all agreements and schedules. This makes Bolidt a reliable partner for every project.

Our flooring solutions Boligrip® 50 P This slip-resistant, vapour-permeable, environmentally friendly flooring system for the parking zones is based on water-based synthetic resins. The inert aggregates broadcast over and integrated into the pigmented compound ensure a wear-resistant system. Boligrip® 50 P is very suitable for bike parking zones and bike rack spaces. Boligrip 50 R This slip-resistant, vapour-permeable, environmentally friendly flooring system for bike paths is based on water-based synthetic resins. The inert aggregates broadcast over and integrated into the pigmented compound ensure a wear-resistant system. Boligrip® 50 R has been specially developed for areas in cycle parking facilities that are subject to heavier use. ®

Boligrip® 300 The Boligrip® 300 system is a slip-resistant

finishing system specially developed for car park applications. The system, based on low-odour, low-viscosity, two-component synthetic resins, features high application thickness, shock and impact resistance and slipresistance. It is seamless, durable, liquid tight, low maintenance, and resistant to the most common chemicals. Boligrip® 200 P This slip-resistant floor finishing system based on low-odour, low-viscosity two-component synthetic resins has been specially developed for bike rack spaces. The inert aggregates broadcast over and integrated into the pigmented compound ensure a wear-resistant system. Boligrip® 200 R This a slip-resistant floor finishing system based on low-odour, low-viscosity two-component synthetic resins has been specially developed for driving lanes in car parks. The inert aggregates

broadcast over and integrated into the pigmented compound ensure a wear-resistant system. Boligrip® 200 R has been specially developed for areas in cycle parking facilities that are subject to heavier use. Boligrip® WH This non-slip, robust and exceptionally durable floor finishing system is very suitable for ramps and slopes in cycle parking facilities. The aggregates broadcast and incorporated into the Boligrip® WH compound ensure an extremely wear-resistant surface. Boligrip® WR This non-slip, robust and exceptionally durable floor finishing system is very suitable for bicycle parking zones. The aggregates broadcast and incorporated into the Boligrip® WR compound ensure an extremely wearresistant surface.

Boligrip® 1250 Thanks to the balanced layer thickness, this tough, pliable synthetic wearing course is extremely suitable for intensive bike traffic on ramps. A variety of aggregates are available that can be incorporated into flooring systems; these ultimately determine the level of skid resistance and the appearance. A rough, non-slip finish is advisable on ramps exposed to wet conditions. Bolidtop® 525 This system is ideal for spaces like parking administration offices for example. This comfortable, walk-friendly floor system creates surveyability through its matt surface and uniform colour scheme. Its viscous-elastic properties produce high wear resistance and a reduction in contact noise. Due to the versatility in colour options, this finish can always be fitted in with the architect’s aesthetic wishes.
