NO LIMITS
The right floor for every facility Bolidt and the fish processing industry go way back. By working and innovating closely with its clients for many decades, Bolidt has developed floors with ideal properties for this industry. The synthetic systems meet the most stringent hygiene and safety directives, are easy to clean and provide safe working conditions. Moreover Bolidt offers one big extra promise: business continuity. The client that chooses Bolidt flooring systems is given a crucial certainty: there will be no disturbance of production because of floor repairs, floor replacements or outbreaks of bacteria. How can Bolidt ensure business continuity to its clients in the fish processing industry? First of all, we need to look at the way Bolidt is organised. At Bolidt the entire business chain is integrated into one organisation. The smart strategy is to keep everything – laboratory, procurement, production, installation, sales and logistics – in-house. By controlling the entire value stream Bolidt is able to develop, produce and install the exact same quality standard flooring system world wide. Not only the organisational strategy, but also by the quality of the products is essential. A floor must provide optimal hygiene and safety. That is why Bolidt flooring systems are seamless, totally smooth and pore-tight. They do not absorb moisture nor allow it to penetrate. The result: there is zero risk of bacteria setting or accumulating. Drains, gutters, grid and skirting boards (including sandwich panels) are incorporated seamlessly into the floor eliminating every risk of bacterial growth. For the same reason Bolidt can install seamless wall systems. Of course, a floor still needs to be kept clean at all times. A piece of cake when having a Bolidt floor. The seamless system is not only dirt repellent, but also resistant to the daily use of a high-pressure washer and chemical detergents. Meanwhile the floor provides adequate grip and thus safe working conditions for employees. Water, chemicals, but also oils and fats can make a floor slippery. Therefor every Bolidt floor is sufficiently textured ensuring maximum grip. Even in wet conditions it remains relatively rough so there is no risk of slipping. The next big advantage of a pore-tight floor: it is resistant to high pressure and impact. Every tear can lead to dirt accumulation and the forming of bacteria. Luckily, a Bolidt flooring system can easily stand the use of heavy transport equipment. Manufactured from high-quality synthetic materials it is extremely durable, practically maintenance-free and ready for at least 20 years of intensive use. Bolidt, no limits.
How Bolidt floors contribute to food safety The seafood industry is one of scrupulous standards and procedures where hygiene and safety is concerned. With frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, from icy cold to boiling hot water, flooring needs to be strong and resilient. Beyond just water, there are a multitude of substances that come into contact with the floor; chemicals, blood, fish guts, and more. Henceforth, the quality of the floor becomes paramount. If an establishment doesn’t comply with food safety industry standards, their overall export and turnover comes under threat. Bolidt is well aware of the necessary procedures and, thus, makes sure that all standards are met. Here’s three reasons why Bolidt is the way to go.
1
Food safety Any facility handling food faces a whole host of industry standards, and this is especially true for the seafood sector. Organizations and certifications such as the HACCP, the BRC Global Standards, the Global G.A.P, IFS Food, and ISO 22000 Food Safety all ensure that every factor within the facility is as efficient, safe and as hygienic as possible. Without such regulations, public health could be at risk. olidt flooring is a firm foundation for meeting all of these requirements. Its pore-free B nature and impermeable quality allow for an easy clean and leave no space for scratches or bacterial growth. Bolidt specializes in providing details that feature no gaps or inconsistencies. Without a seamless connection between drainage points and skirting boards, germs have the chance to germinate and multiply. We focus on making a seamless connection between the walls and floors to avoid right-angles and corners. Bolidt can achieve this through a coved skirting. We also provide patented anti-microbial technology that kills bacteria on contact. A good flooring application leaves no space for the growth of bacteria, literally.
2
Mechanical and chemical resistance floor should be able to withstand decades of usage with heavy mechanical interaction. A On top of this, a seafood processing facility experiences rigorous cleaning routines that require a chemically resistant surface. A crack in the flooring or an outbreak of bacteria could see production lines come to a halt. Bolidtop® 700 can take at least 800 kilograms per square centimeter and has been tested with the most common cleaning agents used in the industry. hen it comes to durability, Bolidt takes a lifetime-perspective. We see our floors serving W clients for 20 to 30 years after the initial application. We also offer maintenance contracts, which involve annual maintenance inspections on our behalf, to ensure the highest quality and the longest possible lifetime.
3
Worker safety nother topic of utmost importance is the safety of the employee. With ice, water, and A fish, it’s almost inevitable that a seafood processing facility will face slippery conditions. However, Bolidt flooring systems provide the option of an anti-slip finish. Even in wet conditions, the slip-resistant quality perseveres. This in turn greatly reduces the risk of slips and falls among employees, improving the safety and the overall quality of a facility.
T hese are just some of the reasons that make Bolidt an ideal partner for the seafood industry. With over 50 years of experience, Bolidt understands the needs of such a high risk environment. In an industry where hygiene and safety are paramount, the quality of your floor is a crucial factor.
Low-maintenance and durable flooring To evaluate an investment in floor systems for the seafood processing industry properly, it is important to look beyond the initial investment. A lower initial investment is worth less if high costs have to be incurred quickly for professional maintenance and costly repairs. The service life should also be considered. Looking far ahead When it comes to maintenance and maintenance costs of synthetic floor systems, Bolidt dares to look far ahead. Bolidt takes that (financial) responsibility which fits the extremely long service life of the floor and wall systems which Bolidt supplies. If you want certainty beforehand concerning your total investment, choose a maintenance contract. Bolidt then carries out yearly inspections without you having to worry about your floor systems. Bolidt has various models which offer insight into the expected maintenance costs. Investing in the future Bolidt selects all materials used for the floor systems carefully and pays a lot of attention to the use, consumption and re-use of reproduced materials. The materials are free of chemical solvents and are completely used when they are applied. Even after their long service life, the Bolidt products
are suitable for re-use. Bolidt takes its responsibility and continues to invest in sustainable products and processes. In this way we invest in the generations after us. Responsible products Since its establishment in 1964, Bolidt has made optimal use of natural, non-rare raw materials. The principle is to completely guarantee the functionality of the floor systems. With regard to material usage, Bolidt meets the general emission criteria; the products do not contain solvents and there are no annoying smells during application. This prevents problems with the environment and labour inspections, and possible resulting stagnation. Furthermore, all Bolidt floor systems are free of PVC and plasticisers. In addition to product development, Bolidt is also innovative and trendsetting in making the application of its synthetic systems with its own people faster, more efficient and more durable. Bolidt operates according to the LEAN principle: a management philosophy aimed at eliminating waste and items without added value. An ongoing process which can be applied in all parts of the company.
The highest standards in terms of quality and hygiene Schmidt Zeevis, a company from Rotterdam with a big name in the industry and more than a hundred years of experience as a fish supplier to the catering industry, has moved from its location in the city centre to a location on the water. There, a completely new business premises emerged, where, in terms of quality, important decisions have been made. When it came to applying the floors in the new building, Schmidt Zeevis has once again opted for Bolidt. In the storage rooms, the corridors and the deboning and filleting area - a total surface of 3500 m2 - the Bolidtop速 700 floor system provided the right conditions in terms of hygiene and functionality.
Quality by and for Schmidt Zeevis In the fishing industry Schmidt Zeevis is a leading business in the Netherlands. The company delivers 133 species of fresh fish to catering companies, six days a week, but it does not stop there. Many catering companies make use of the experience and knowledge of the fish advisors from Schmidt Zeevis. The entire fish processing prior to delivery, is handled in-house. Therefore, it is not surprising that the Rotterdam-based company, in constructing the new building, has set the highest standards in terms of quality and, of course, hygiene. This was certainly the case for the new flooring.
Trusted Cooperation Schmidt Zeevis has chosen for Bolidt because of the positive experiences of the past. In 1992, Bolidt applied the floor in the building at the Rotterdam Mainland. These floors still meet all requirements, and Schmidt Zeevis is very pleased about them. So when the move became inevitable, the choice once again fell on the quality and reliability of Bolidt.
From the Mainland to the Spaanse Polder After nearly a hundred years Schmidt Zeevis has moved. The new building, with the outline of the bow of a ship and surrounded by water, truly catches the eye. The choice of moving was made because the company now has everything under own management - including a giant refrigerator. The old building proved to have insufficient space. A specific requirement of Schmidt Zeevis with respect to the floors in the building, was, among other things, aimed at the use of color. Marcel van Breda, director of Schmidt Zeevis, wanted bright colors that contribute to the sales function of the new company. Private individuals, after all, also visit the new building at the Spaanse Polder because Schmidt Zeevis also sells directly to consumers. The rich color palette of the Bolidtop速 700 series of Bolidt gave Schmidt Zeevis plenty of options. Bolidtop速 700 was applied in three different natural colors. In addition to aesthetic properties, the floor in the new building of Schmidt Zeevis also meets all functional and hygienic requirements.

The success of a project depends on the details The seafood industry has some of the toughest standards for hygiene & safety of any we’ve worked with, and rightly so. The requirements which need to be met for certifications related to food safety and personal safety are rigorous and thorough. Failing to meet these standards will result in loss of production, impacting turnover very quickly. At Bolidt we know this and our years of experience working with the seafood industry has given us clear insights into your needs. We know that the flooring systems we provide need to be strong enough to handle extremes in temperature which change rapidly. They also need to be able to stand up to more than just water; our products will regularly be exposed to chemicals, blood, fish guts, aggressive cleaning products and more. Beyond that, we know that the smallest things often matter the most, that’s why we focus on all aspects of our systems, including the detailing. It’s often in the details that bacteria and contamination can gain a foothold. Not with Bolidt.
Here’s three detailing touches which make all the difference in the seafood industry. Coved Skirting 90° corners are the perfect starting point for contamination. Installing Bolidtop® 700 replaces the need for rigid edges around the perimeter of the room. By applying the same curved finish using radius 30, Bolidt eliminates these problems before they start. Coved skirting seamlessly connects the floor to the wall, limiting the environment for bacteria to establish. In case the walls are protected by (high) curbs, Bolidt could cover these curbs with the Bolidtop 700 system to ensure a strong and equal finish, having the same appearance and functionality as the floor. From a hygienic and cleaning perspective the curb will be provided with coved skirting. Connection to drainage Seafood processing requires discrete areas, each handling a stage of production and each with its own drainage. These stages may only produce water or ice as waste, whilst others deal in more substantial organic waste.
Bolidt knows that this means the dimensions of the drainage systems will vary in each location. When installing the drainage systems, it should be noted that Bolidtop® 700 has a thickness of 5 mm. So, any drainage system installed should be a maximum of 5mm high from the foundation. This will ensure that the finish is smooth and even to help with easy and quick cleaning. We have a team of experienced specialists on hand to advise, so for any specific queries please feel free to contact us. Slopes Most modern facilities are built with slopes as an element of the subfloor as this provides easy liquid drainage. Bolidt flooring systems are applied directly to these structural slopes, following them exactly. By design, our flooring systems will make these slopes slip resistant, even when wet, and easy to clean to avoid bacterial growth.
