food and hygiene: inseparable The poultry industry includes a broad range of companies. The sector is just as diverse as its products, ranging from embryo development to incubators, and from slaughtering to deboning and packaging. The common denominator in the poultry industry is that hygiene, efficiency and quality are at the forefront of its (automated) production process. Food and hygiene: inseparable. During the production process, the floor forms the basis for optimal hygiene. Certainly in the poultry industry, hygiene must be considered in relation to safety, as the work is done partly by hand in some places, such as in the case of deboning, filleting and cutting. Floors have specific functions in each phase of the production process. When the eggs are received, the trolleys are driven into the incubators, when cleaning the trays / crates in the crate washing area, or when the eggs are transferred in the transfer area. But also, for example, for the slaughter and packaging areas. For each function and space, Bolidt provides a specific floor finish; seamless, strong and slip resistant. Easy to clean thoroughly, durable and with an optimal mechanical resistance. With more than 50 years of worldwide experience, Bolidt provides innovative and reliable floor systems for all circumstances in the poultry industry.

quality as basis The basis of all Bolidt systems consists of a thermosetting polymer-based synthetic material. This material with special characteristics is developed by Bolidt for floor and wall finishing. Depending on the specific application, space and circumstances, Bolidt adjusts the composition. The Bolidt synthetic floor systems have a number of key features.

6

From antimicrobial to anti-slip Because Bolidt floor systems are applied seamlessly and free of pores, bacteria do not get the chance to germinate. Due to the excellent scratch resistance, this protection is guaranteed. In addition, the impermeability prevents that hazardous substances can enter the layer beneath and thus interrupt the continuous production process. The finishes also join the floor seamlessly. Coved skirtings and corners, and drains seamlessly flow into the floor surface, walls and columns. Durable anti-slip finishes guarantee safety in both wet and dry conditions. Maintenance is straightforward and cleaning is easy. Key basic features. But there is more.

Flexibility guaranteed Flexibility is important in the food processing industry. Expansions, innovations and alterations are very much the order of the day. Adaptations of the spaces are unavoidable. Floors must be easy to repair and simple to extend. Bolidt offers a maintenance contract which allows for this type of change. The fast drying time ensures that the production process is only interrupted for as short as possible. This enables changes to be made and reduces the life cycle costs. Optimal hygiene Bolidt floor systems are perfect for large surfaces, but also for small details. Bolidt offers the most varied finishes. There are

seamless joins to walls, facades, columns, gutters, doorsteps and more. The coved skirting provides the option to avoid angles of (less than) 90°. Together with the seamless and pore-free character, this type of finish provides optimal hygiene. Thus, the HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) criteria can easily be met. Indispensable for the poultry industry. Durable Bolidt does not supply floors, but floor systems. Each space in the poultry industry gets its own floor system, tailored to its use. By tailoring the system to its specific use, a long service life is guaranteed.

Minimal maintenance Bolidt floors require a minimum of maintenance. This not only lowers costs, but also ensures that the continuous production process rarely needs to be stopped for maintenance. Maintenance and cleaning are made very easy thanks to the optimised structure of Bolidt floor surfaces and the absence of protective films or layers in our floor systems.

HACCP With Bolidt floor systems for the poultry industry, the HACCP criteria for food safety can easily be met.

Bolidtop 700 ®

There is no floor (and no wall, corner or niche) which is inspected as critically as in the poultry industry. Floors may not have any cracks or unevenness and must be slip resistant, pore-free and resistant to mechanical loading. The floor system of choice for the poultry industry is the Bolidtop® 700.

a high pressure and impact resistance, making it extremely suitable for heavy fork lift truck traffic and pallet transport. In addition, Bolidtop® 700 is scratch resistant and durable. Resistant to chemicals Bolidtop® 700 is resistant to most common chemicals and is applied as a fluid using an in-house developed method. Bolidtop® 700 is available in a large number of terrazzo colours.

Suited for heavy loading Bolidtop® 700 is a 5 mm thick, mechanically compounded and seamless synthetic floor finish based on low-viscosity two-component synthetic resins, which are low-odour. The floor system features

for each space a specific application Entry The first impression is formed in the entry zone; the showpiece of the building. Here, colour, shape and material are of great importance. From a functional perspective, a high wear resistance and good cleanability are essential. This is because the loading of the entry zone is high and dirt is transported by employees and visitors from outside to inside. Hallways Hallways are the traffic arteries in food processing companies. Daily, thousands of eggs are transported from one space to the other. Flatness and seamlessness are the key characteristics floors need to have here. Furthermore, it is important that the floor is easy to clean. This is because of the traffic between production, warehouse and other spaces, and the extra contamination this causes. Threshold-free passages to the bordering spaces and low-maintenance features provide optimal accessibility.

14

Production spaces Here, the floor must be safe in both dry and wet conditions. A perfect nonslip function is crucial. Furthermore, production spaces place high demands on the mechanical and chemical resistance

of floor systems. Depending on the type of industry, the floors must meet HACCP criteria (food processing industry), GMP (pharmaceutical industry), impermeability (repair shops), electrical conductivity (electronics industry) and chemical resistance (pharmaceutical industry, laboratories, food processing and soft drink industry. In addition, the floor must be resistant to intensive traffic, falling objects and abrasive influences The many types of Bolidt floors offer a fitting and durable solution for even the most demanding and specific situations. Loading and unloading areas Loading and unloading platforms are subjected to a lot of wear and tear. Lorries are loaded and unloaded with fork lift trucks and hand pallet trucks. This causes an intensive loading and abrasive wear of the floor surface. Because the loading and unloading takes place (partly) outside, the floors must provide sufficient grip, also in wet conditions. A durable and slip resistant wearing layer makes this possible. Bolidt has years of experience with wearing layers on bridges and ships’ decks. This knowledge has been applied in the development of durable floor systems for industrial applications.

traffic with fork lift trucks and meet the HACCP criteria. This is achieved with an impermeable floor which is finished with coved skirting, rounded thresholds and/or rounded corners.

Laboratories For laboratories, it is important that the floor does not release any particles or attract dust from the air or the surroundings. A seamless, smooth and impermeable floor is what is needed. Hygiene is also important. Often, the floor needs to be resistant to aggressive chemicals such as organic and inorganic acids and solvents. Electrically conductive floors which prevent static charging facilitate a good functionality because in laboratories there must be no dust loading. During the development of laboratory floors, the possibly unique colours of light in these very specific spaces were also taken into account. Cold store and deep-freeze spaces Companies in the food processing industry often have refrigerated storage or production spaces. Furthermore, at some locations deep-freezing takes place. This requires temperature resistant floors. A dust-binding sealing of the concrete floor is very effective and makes cleaning easier. The floor has to be resistant to intensive

Offices There are other criteria for offices than for the other factory spaces. Significantly less wear resistance is required, but this is not entirely unimportant. Design and atmosphere play a key role here. Office spaces must be quiet and orderly, with a pleasant ambiance. Because chairs are moved a lot, scratch resistance is important. Thanks to their good cleanability, the Bolidt floors in offices can be combined excellently with those in the production and storage spaces. Toilets, changing and shower spaces In these spaces, hygiene is of the utmost importance. The floor must be easy to clean and resistant to dirt. Right angles or sharp corners which can collect dirt must be avoided as much as possible. A rounded and seamless transition between the floor and wall finishing can prevent this, Bolidt offers various finishes such as the in-situ produced coved skirting. An anti-fungal wall coating which is flexible and watertight provides extra reliability. Because of the intensive loading, the floor must be both hygienic and wear resistant.
