quality as basis The basis of all Bolidt systems consists of a thermosetting polymer-based synthetic material. This material with special characteristics is developed by Bolidt for floor and wall finishing. Depending on the specific application, space and surroundings, Bolidt adjusts the composition of the synthetic material. The Bolidt floor systems have a number of key features. Fluid and free of pores If there is one thing that matters in the care sector, it’s hygiene. Bolidt floor systems distinguish themselves in this area due to the specific manner of application.

8

During application, the synthetic material is fluid and it can be applied seamlessly. A smooth surface is guaranteed. The pore-free top surface and the absence of seams make it impossible for viruses and bacteria to germinate or grow. Besides floor systems, Bolidt offers (wall) finishes that monitor hygiene. Micro-bacteriological study shows that micro-organisms such as salmonella typimurium, staphylococcus cureus and MRSA do not thrive or reproduce on BolidtopÂŽ floor systems and finishes. Because the floors are scratch-resistant, bacteria-sensitive spots do not develop even after the floors have been laid. These properties make cleaning straightforward. In general, dirt load is also not a problem. Bolidt has floors which are resistant to disinfectants, chemicals, blood, urine, iodine and hand alcohol.

Bolidt Antimicrobial Technology Especially for the care sector, Bolidt has developed a revolutionary antimicrobial technology using new control techniques: a differentiated potential difference between the multi-resistant bacteria and the Bolidt floor surface. Existing antibacterial paint systems are based on chemical control of the bacteria with, for example, silver salt. Bolidt floors come with the patented AM-technology based on mechanical control. The Bolidt technology makes it impossible for bacteria to reproduce or survive, protecting large contact surfaces against the development and spread of bacteria. Durable Each space in a hospital, GP practice, dentists’ practice and nursing home gets its own floor system, geared to the use of the space and thus guaranteeing a long service life.

Flexibility guaranteed Care is continually developing. Changes and innovations follow each other in rapid succession, which requires flexibility. Spatial adjustments in buildings and interior design are the order of the day. This places special demands on the floors; these must be easy to repair and simple to extend. With a Bolidt maintenance contract, there is always room for changes and aesthetic adjustments, In this manner, a floor can be quickly and easily given a completely new appearance. And an interior can be adjusted without having to lay new floors. Perfect flexibility in combination with lower lifecycle costs!

functional and attractive When developing the synthetic floor systems, we tend to pay close attention to the functional requirements. Floors in medical centres must, of course, be hygienic, strong, non-slip, durable and easy to clean and maintain. But appearance is also important. Medical centres are becoming more and more transparent in terms of setup, with the floor taking on a more prominent and atmospheric role. The right floor contributes to a sense of homeliness, safety, privacy and autonomy. Bolidt has a lot to offer in this regard. Functional under all conditions Medical centres have spaces with widely varying functions. Bolidt offers excellent solutions for all spaces, inside and out. For spaces with sensitive equipment, there is a conductive floor which prevents ESD problems. For wet cells, there are floors with extra grip. For the car park, there are heated ramps, parking roofs and parking decks available. For an impressive entrance, there are floors with special effects. And for hygienic spaces, there are seamless skirting-boards and finishes, which prevent bacteria, viruses and accumulations of dirt. At the back of this brochure, you will find a summary of the floor systems which you can best choose for the various types of spaces.

Hygiene To prevent infections and complications, hygiene in medical centres needs to be completely guaranteed, which is conducive to optimal patient recovery. The seamless character and the antimicrobial technology developed by Bolidt guarantee the hygiene. The scratch and wear resistance ensure that no damage which could house bacteria and viruses occurs. Noise Peace and quiet in a medical centre are obviously important. Sounds of walking and rolling, produced by doctors, nursing staff, patients and visitors are the order of the day. The floor construction can help minimise noise nuisance. Bolidt has developed a unique system with the seamless floor finish being laid on an absorbent base layer. The excellent properties of the synthetic resin floor remain completely intact and less noise is produced when walking or riding on the floor. These properties make the floor ideal for patient rooms and hallways. Wear resistance A high walking traffic intensity means a high load on the floor. From a functional point of view, it is important that the floor is resistant to this. Damage to the floor is undesirable because that complicates cleaning and allows dirt to accumulate in scratches, holes and uneven spots.

13

14

Unlimited design possibilities In both the new construction and renovation of medical centres, patients’ and staff’s perceptions take centre stage. Bolidt likes to share its ideas on this and to show clients and architects how a healing environment is created. A range of possibilities is available in the form of all imaginable colours, either plain or mixed. Patterns can be scattered in, mother of pearl can be added. A print or a painting can be incorporated into the material as can lighting. Even a 3D effect is possible. These aspects can be used not only for aesthetic effect, but also for communication purposes. Special

signposting in the form of light to show the way, a print to integrate text and relief to guide the blind. Almost anything is possible. Minimal maintenance The Bolidt floor systems are known for their very long service life and require just a minimum of maintenance. That not only saves on costs but also contributes to a high availability and minimum inconvenience for patients. Due to the optimal structure of the floor surface and the absence of protective films or layers on Bolidt floor systems, maintenance and cleaning are very easy.

15

low-maintenance and durable To properly evaluate an investment in synthetic floor systems for a hospital or clinic, it is important to look beyond the initial investment. A lower initial investment is worth less if high costs soon follow for professional maintenance and expensive repairs. The service life should also be considered. Looking far ahead When it comes to maintenance and maintenance costs of synthetic floor systems, Bolidt dares to look far ahead. Bolidt takes that (financial) responsibility which fits the extremely long service life of both the floor and wall systems that Bolidt supplies. If you want certainty beforehand concerning your total investment, choose a maintenance contract. Bolidt then carries out yearly inspections without you having to worry about your floor systems. Bolidt has various models which offer insight into the expected maintenance costs.

16

Investing in future generations All raw materials which Bolidt uses for floor systems are carefully selected. Bolidt pays a lot of attention to the use, consumption and re-use of materials. The materials are free of chemical thinners and are used to the full when they are applied. Even after their long service life, the Bolidt products are suitable for continued use and re-use. Bolidt takes

its responsibility and continues to invest in sustainable products and processes. In this way, also investing in future generations. Responsible products Since its establishment in 1964, Bolidt has made optimal use of natural, non-rare raw materials, completely guaranteeing the functionality of its systems. With regard to material usage, Bolidt meets the general emission criteria; the products do not contain solvents and no unpleasant smells are produced. This prevents problems with the environment and labour inspections, as well as any stagnation. Furthermore, all Bolidt floor systems are free of PVC and plasticisers. Besides product development, Bolidt is innovative and trendsetting to accelerate the application of their synthetic systems to make that more efficient and durable. Bolidt works according to the lean principle: a management philosophy aimed at eliminating waste and items without added value. An ongoing process which can be applied in all parts of the company.

17

for each space a specific application Patient rooms Patients spend most of their stay in their rooms. In terms of recovery then, it is important that these rooms feel good. This can be achieved through an appearance of security, safety and trust. The floor plays an important role in this. Comfortable, foot-warm materials and the right choice of colours can enhance the atmosphere in patient rooms, with noise absorption promoting peace and quiet. It is important that a patient room is a good workspace for staff. The floor must be non-slip and easy to clean. The ‘wet areas’ in a patient room – the bathroom and toilet – call for extra hygiene and safety. A seamless and pore-free floor with anti-slip can guarantee this.

18

Hallways Hallways are the main arteries of medical centres. They lead hundreds of patients, visitors and staff from one space to another every day. Beds and trolleys load the hallways even more. Wear resistance is the most important property of floors here. Furthermore, the material must

damp sound and must be easy to clean. Passages to adjoining spaces without thresholds are required for general accessibility. Entrance The first impression is formed at the entrance; the showpiece of the building. Here, colour, shape and material are of great importance. Functionally, durability and cleanability are essential. The load on the entrance is high and visitors bring dirt in from outside. Cafeteria/restaurant The cafeteria and the restaurant are spaces for patients and visitors. It is a space in which to relax and the interior should reflect this. The choice of colours and materials has a great impact. Furthermore, the floor must be functional. Hygiene is extra important here; the floor must be easy to keep clean and resistant to caustic cleaning materials. Toilets and showers Besides the wet cells in patient rooms,

home. An extra feeling of peace and quiet can be achieved through the use of a noise damping finish.

there are many ‘public’ toilets in medical centres. The floors here must be wearresistant due to the intensive use. Besides this, hygiene is an important point; Right angles or sharp corners which can collect dirt must be avoided wherever possible. The transition from floor to wall should, therefore, be bevelled and seamless. This can be achieved with an in-situ produced coved skirting. An anti-fungal wall coating which is flexible and watertight provides extra reliability. Rehabilitation spaces In rehabilitation spaces everything must contribute to the patient’s speedy recovery. Functionality and appearance can help. A floor with good damping, safety and wear resistance properties accelerates the actual rehabilitation. A comfortable and secure appearance is psychologically welcoming. Visitor spaces/waiting areas Visitor spaces and waiting areas should radiate peace and quiet. No shouting or busy scenes, but an accessible, homely and trusted environment for a broad group of people. A space where people feel at

OT / ICU Operating theatres and intensive care units are primarily functional. They stand out through a large amount of sensitive equipment and instruments. These spaces must be clean and sterile to reduce the risk of infections. The high-tech equipment and the use of oxygen and other gases require a conductive floor to prevent ESD problems. Resistance to chemicals, iodine and disinfectants is essential. Neutral, restful colours promote concentration among medical staff. Laboratories / research areas In laboratories and research areas, floors must be resistant to chemicals. Hygiene is also important here. Therefore, seamless and watertight floor finishes are usually required. And yet these spaces do not always have to look sterile; choice of colour and design can make the working area more pleasant. First Aid The First Aid is a very intensively used area where the floor often has to endure heavy-duty use. There is a lot of walking traffic, which requires frequent cleaning. As such, it is important that the floor is resistant to disinfectants and iodine and can be cleaned quickly and without problems. A restful appearance often has a positive effect within a hectic environment. 19

(Dishwashing) kitchen Kitchens have strict hygiene requirements. Treating foodstuffs responsibly is obviously important. A seamless, pore-free and easy to clean floor is required in a kitchen environment. Furthermore, it should be resistant to intensive walking traffic and remain non-slip under wet conditions. Offices Offices have other requirements than the other hospital spaces. The standards of hygiene are less stringent but, indirectly, still important of course. Sound insulation, design and atmosphere play an important role. A seamless synthetic floor provides a modern appearance and, at the same time, is economically attractive. Car park/ramps A car park needs to be accessible, welllit and friendly with a good signposting. The surface must be wear-resistant, seamless and resistant to oil and lubricants. Signposting and lineation are also important. Distinct parking spaces are recommended.

20

For ramps, a very wear resistant, nonslip finish is needed, possibly with integrated heating. This ensures safety and accessibility in all weather conditions. An electrically heated wear layer is a must for the entrance for the ambulances to the first aid.

Parking deck A parking deck, especially the top floor of a car park, is exposed to weather influences and intensive traffic. This calls for a non-slip, wear-resistant finish that also contributes to the water-tightness. A long service life, little maintenance and an acceptable weight are essential. Besides this, oversight, accessibility and clear signposting are important. Parking roof Other than with a parking floor, functional spaces such as offices, patient areas or technical spaces can be found underneath a parking roof. Besides non-slip and water-tightness, sound and heat insulation are criteria that the roof finish must meet.
