Our full-time study programmes are designed to maximise your career prospects and widen your options for further or higher study.
Your programme consists of the following elements:
The Level 1 course consists of 10 BTEC units covering an introduction to working in the public services – starting from a practical and basic theory perspective, working towards preparing you with the knowledge and skills required for progressing on to higher-level courses and employment. This course focuses on practical participation and is designed to help you pass the selection processes of a number of public service organisations. Work experience is also an integral part of our study programmes, enabling you to gain essential exposure to the world of work.
• Study of your chosen vocational subject (50% of your programme) • English and maths (continued until the achievement of GCSE grade 4 (C) or equivalent) • Employability skills (e.g. punctuality, attendance, communication and team work) • Work experience (giving you a taste of working life) • Tutorial & personal development (e.g. healthy living, volunteering and citizenship skills) • Fitness Testing

What You’ll Learn
Formal qualifications are not required – just the interest and ambition of a career in the Public Services. All learners will be interviewed by staff to assess their suitability.

There are no formal examinations on BTEC courses, so learners are assessed using a variety of different methods such as presentations, observations and coursework-based IT tasks. Many of the units have very practical-based assignments that require visits to local armed forces facilities to participate in activities. We hold internal and external competitions.

Taught within a disciplined environment, and using the excellent training facilities on campus, you will develop your leadership and teamwork skills whilst improving your physical fitness. Study Programme Overview The purpose of these qualifications is to provide specialist knowledge, skills and understanding relating to working in the police service in areas such as leadership skills, physical fitness, equality and diversity and inclusion, which can then be applied to current or future employment. The content has been developed with employers, subject experts and tutors to ensure that it’s relevant to the real world and meets the need of employers. You will gain a broad understanding of policing. A number of our existing Uniformed Services units have been contextualised to Policing. We have also developed new units so that this qualification is focussed on a career in the police service.
