ARMY LIFE When you’re in the army you live and work at a military base either in the UK or overseas. When deployed on operation you can be away for up to 6 months in hostile areas.
It is good to stay fit and healthy as there are regular fitness tests and various training that requires a high level of fitness. Military bases have subsidised canteens where they provide nutritious meals for residents. You will learn how to ‘bull’ your boots. ‘Bull’ means polishing your military boots to have a shine with a mirror-like finish. You should almost be able to see your face on the tip of the boot. It takes months to perfect.
There are opportunities to develop your skills and achieve qualifications in the army, with opportunities to work as an apprentice, gain NVQs and Degrees.

GOI N G TO UNI VER SIT Y ?
On a Level 3 course?
Want to go to university in 2021? You can start your application for university from the 20th May, 2020. University applications are made through UCAS and are always completed early, so that the universities have time to look at everyone’s application.
All the help you need to start your application is on the ‘Going to University in 2021’ section of your college homepage. There are PowerPoints and Word documents, which talk you through each section of the application. We will also be sending resources to you through Signal, and all the advisors are available by email and phone. When we are back in college, we will have UCAS drop-ins, in Student Services, three times a week.
So, what can you do now? Have a look at the ‘Going to University’ PowerPoint, which might give you some ideas about choosing a degree and university. See ‘How to Register on UCAS’ which will help you to register and start your application. Start to think about your Personal Statement, which is an important part of the application.

After Lockdown… A message of reflection from our ESOL students We should keep our environment clean, so this does not happen again. We probably will be feeling excited and maybe a little sad that the summer is going to be over. However, going on days out which we had planned to have more frequently for two months in April and May, will probably be in August maybe when there aren’t any working days for our parents. While staying at home some of us are playing FIFA most of the time, to help us reduce stress and overall to make our time to fast for Ramadan or Lent. This is one way we spend the days.
Also, the college asked everybody to study online at home. It’s quite interesting because while we are in our houses, we can do a lot of other things. We do some abs exercises, classwork and cooking. Wow, it’s very exciting to be home even if we are not doing work! Finally, what students want is to go back to college as soon as it is safe, because we really miss our classmates and our Smaller children will be a bit teachers. scared and nervous going back to primary school for the first day, because they don’t know what will happen next. If we remember that a better day must come, and if we listen to good government guidelines, we will be proud of our country.

Lockdown Tips Coping with the new normal Support and advice during Covid-19. The recent TSR student poll shows that students across the country are struggling with the changes brought by COVID-19 and the consequent lockdown restrictions. When asked about factors affecting their mental health, many identified a lack of purpose or routine as having the biggest impact on their wellbeing. Loneliness brought by lack of social contact was also noted to have an impact on their wellbeing.
Top things you can do to help
We’ve put together a list of useful tips on how to cope with the new normal: Create a timetable
Maintain the same routine as you would do on a normal day when you would go into college. Start each day by creating a timetable and a list of tasks you need to complete for the day. This is important for giving you a sense of routine and purpose.
Distinguish your workspace from your personal space
Schedule Breaks
Schedule frequent breaks to help you stay focused.
It is important that you maintain a work/life balance. It is easy to feel that you have no routine when working from home. Your personal space has suddenly become workspace and there’s no sense of escape. By setting up a workspace in your home, you are able to set a specific area to work in and with the help of your timetable, you will be able to switch off when you need to.
Understanding how to stay positive Stay Fit Pencil in some daily exercise routines to add structure to your day. Added benefits include boosting your immune system, reducing stress, and supporting your mental health.
Stay Connected Don’t isolate yourself and lose your connections. Luckily, we live in the 21st century where technology has helped us to connect or reconnect with people from all around the world. So, even though we cannot physically meet up, there are always ways to enjoy each other’s company virtually, to help take our mind off things.
Look After Your Wellbeing When you start feeling overwhelmed, practise mindfulness. You can do this by meditating, doing yoga, or anything else you may find therapeutic. Here are some NHS-approved wellbeing apps to aid mindfulness: https://www.nhs.uk/apps-library/category/mental-health/
