Enrichment Programme

At Bolton College the Sports & Public Services department offer a wide variety of enrichment which includes Sports and Fitness activities. These are a great way to make new friends, socialise with different people from other departments and try new challenges. Each activity is overlooked by qualified coaches who have vast experience of delivering high quality sessions. We aim to make each session fun, enjoyable and competitive, allowing you to showcase your skills. We also have a variety of different sports teams that we enter into the AOC Leagues. This means that you will have the opportunity to represent the College and travel to different venues across the country. Don’t want to play competitive Sport? Not a problem! The enrichment programme is designed to target all students, whether that’s socialising with friends, playing competitively or running off some energy. All enrichment activities are free of charge and run every morning between 7.30am-8.30am or afternoon, between 12pm-5.30pm. Men’s Football Activity – Football enrichment takes place every Monday, 12pm-1pm, in the Sports Hall. Students from all departments and areas come down to play fun and competitive 5-a-side matches, organised by a fully-qualified Level 2 Football Coach. Each student will be put into a different team every week, getting the chance to showcase their skills against peers and friends. This session is extremely popular, attracting learners from different backgrounds with a passion for the game. The activity is a drop-in session with all abilities. If students are interested in playing for the College team, there will be an extra high-quality training session on Tuesdays, 4.30pm-5.30pm, delivered by a fully-qualified UEFA B Coach from Bolton Wanderers. The best players will be selected for the College team, taking part in the AOC League and competing across the country, representing Bolton College and Bolton Wanderers on Wednesdays. These sessions will take place at Queens Park during the summer period and in the Sports Hall over the winter period. Opportunities – There will be chances to meet new people and friends, socialise with others, understand the game more, represent Bolton College/Bolton Wanderers, build confidence and play in competitive competitions. CRICKET Activity – Cricket enrichment takes place every Thursday, 12pm-1pm, in the Sports Hall. Students from all areas gather to play fun inclusive indoor cricket, overlooked by sports staff. Each student will get the chance to bowl, bat and field and will work within a team environment. This activity is a drop-in session where all abilities can come to take part and have some fun. If students are interested in playing for the College team, there will be an extra net session on Fridays, 3.30pm-4.30pm. The best players will be chosen to represent the College, competing across the country against other colleges in the AOC League. Opportunities – There will be chances to meet new people and friends, socialise with others, understand the game more, represent Bolton College, build confidence and play in competitive competitions. WOMEN'S FOOTBALL

Activity – Women’s football enrichment takes place every Tuesday, 12pm-1pm, and is delivered by a fully-qualified UEFA B licensed Coach from Bolton Wanderers. This session is for any female who has a passion for football, is interested in trying a new challenge or simply wants to come and socialise with friends and peers. The College enter a 7-a-side women’s football team into the AOC League every year, giving students a chance to compete against other colleges across the country competitively every Wednesday afternoon. All abilities are welcome at the session. Opportunities – There will be chances to meet new people and friends, socialise with others, understand the game more, represent Bolton College/Bolton Wanderers, build confidence and play in competitive competitions. Essentials – ID badge, water, towel, correct kit - shorts, sports pants, sports top, football trainers, boots, shin pads. All abilities welcome


PAN Disability FOOTBALL

Activity – PAN disability football takes place every Friday, 12pm-1pm, in the Sports Hall and is delivered by a Level 2 qualified Football Coach. PAN disability is available for learners who have impairments such as partial sight, deaf and/or hearing impaired, cerebral palsy, amputees, learning disability, wheelchair users or any other form of disability. We have a huge cohort of students with disabilities who love the PAN disability sessions because they are fun, inclusive, relaxed and socially engaging. The College also enter the AOC PAN Ability Counts League, a competitive tournament giving students the opportunity to play against other colleges across the country. Opportunities – There will be chances to meet new people and friends, socialise with others, understand the game more, represent Bolton College/Bolton Wanderers, build confidence and play in competitive competitions. BOCCIA

Activity – Boccia enrichment takes place every Thursday, 12pm-1pm, overlooked by a fully-qualified Level 1 Boccia Instructor with vast experience. Boccia is a target ball sport which tests both muscle control and accuracy. From a seated position, players propel balls to land as close as possible to a white marker ball, known as the Jack. Two sides compete as individuals, pairs or as a team of three over a set number of ends - four for individuals and pairs, and six for teams. The activity is inclusive, fun and competitive. The College enters a Boccia team into all AOC tournaments throughout the year, giving students the chance to compete against other colleges from around the country. Badminton

Activity – Badminton enrichment takes place every Wednesday, 12pm-1pm, and is delivered by sports staff at the College. This is a drop-in session for anyone interested in fun activities, socialising, meeting new people and developing new badminton skills and techniques. A ladder format system is used, with each game lasting five minutes long. After the five minutes the player with the most points will progress up the ladder whilst the loser will regress down the ladder. AOC Sport organise individual badminton competitions throughout the year so there will be the opportunity to play competitively. Basketball

Activity – Basketball enrichment takes place every Wednesday, 1pm-3pm, in the Sports Hall and is overlooked by sports staff at the College. This drop-in session is a fun and high-energy activity that attracts students of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. Learners compete in 3v3 and 5v5 matches, bringing a competitive edge to the session. The best players will be chosen to compete as a team in the summer AOC Basketball tournament. Opportunities – There will be chances to meet new people and friends, socialise with others, understand the game more, represent Bolton College, build confidence and play in competitive competitions. FITNESS SUITE

Activity – The Fitness Suite opens to our members, Monday to Thursday, 4.30pm - 9.30pm and Fridays, 4.30pm - 5.30pm. To become a member, you must first book and complete an induction. During your induction you will be shown how to use each piece of fitness equipment safely and effectively. Opportunities – Members of the Fitness Suite have access to 1 to 1 tailored Personal Trainer sessions, which are £10 a session. We also create fitness plans for our members based on their own fitness goals and/or specific needs. Essentials - To use the Fitness Suite, you must be wearing the correct clothing and footwear, to ensure your own safety. It is also essential that the Fitness Suite is only used by our members when a member of the Sports and Public Services team is present. Bring a towel and water. All abilities and genders welcome


STAFF/STUDENT SPIN CLASSES

Activity – Following the purchase of Matrix Fitness equipment we are offering spin classes to staff and learners. These sessions will be instructed by a fully-qualified Spin Instructor. Spin classes are engaging, with lots of variables within sessions, such as setting individual goals for our participants, setting target zones tracked by the spin bike. Opportunities – Spin classes give our staff and learners the opportunity to enjoy exercise and monitor and measure their own progress as they develop through sessions. Spin bikes can also access previously saved results when logged into. Essentials - To use the spin bikes you must first have an induction before use. Correct clothing and footwear is essential for your own safety. You will need to bring a towel and water. All abilities and genders welcome


STAFF/STUDENT CIRCUIT

Activity – our circuit sessions vary from beginner, intermediate and advanced so that everyone can get involved and get the most out of the sessions. Circuit sessions primarily target specific muscle groups giving participants sessions that suit their own fitness aspirations. Opportunities – Sessions take place in a fun and social environment with every participant pushed to achieve their fitness goals. We also use circuit sessions as valuable industry experience for our Fitness Academy and personal training learners. Essentials - All participants must wear the correct footwear and clothing during every circuit session they attend. Bring a towel and water. All abilities and genders are welcome


Staff Tai Chi

Activity – Tai chi is a mind-body practice that involves a series of slow, flowing exercises that combine movement, meditation, and rhythmic breathing. These sessions run on a Friday mornings, 7.30am - 8.30am. These free staff-only sessions help to relieve stress and promote wellbeing, are delivered by a fully-qualified Tai Chi Instructor with over 20 years of experience. To register interest please visit the sports staff room or email fitness.suite@boltoncc.ac.uk. Opportunities – Tai Chi gives our staff members the opportunity to meet other staff members from across campus, develop their own mind-body connection and develop their own muscles in a relaxed and controlled manner. Tai Chi is also used as a form of rehabilitation and in many cases helps prevent long-term injuries. Essentials - Participants must wear the correct clothing and footwear and be on time. Staff Football

Activity – 5-a-side staff football enrichment takes place on Mondays from 4pm - 4.45pm. The sessions are available for all staff who would like fun, high intensity exercise after a long day at work. Sessions have a competitive element, suiting anyone interested in football and physical exercise. Opportunities – There will be chances to meet new people and friends, socialise with others, understand the game more and take part in physical exercise. Essentials - Water, towel, correct kit - trainers, shorts, sports pants, sports top. All staff welcome


Staff Badminton

Activity – Badminton enrichment takes place every Monday, 4.45pm–5.45pm. All staff are welcome at these free sessions, with 1v1 and 2v2 matches. Opportunities – There will be chances to meet new people and friends, socialise with others, understand the game and enjoy physical exercise. Essentials - Water, towel, correct kit - trainers, shorts, sports pants, sports top. All staff welcome
