Entry Requirements

Our full-time study programmes are designed to maximise your career prospects and widen your options for further or higher study.

We ask that you have four GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including English Language. We will also ask to see a good school reference.

This course will benefit anyone who wants to develop parenting and life skills, as it will stimulate interest and encourage understanding of the skills required to care for children.

You’ll need an enthusiastic approach to your studies, excellent attendance at school or your last place of study, and a clear DBS check.

CACHE is the UK’s only specialist awarding organisation for the children, adult and health care sectors. In 2014, over 150,000 learners from more than 1,000 centres, both in the UK and overseas, registered with CACHE. Work experience is also an integral part of our study programmes, enabling you to gain essential exposure to the world of work.

What You’ll Learn Units include: • • • •

Remember, you will also spend one day a week in a work placement setting. If required for your chosen career or HE course, you may wish to study English & maths to Level 3. How will I be Assessed? You will be assessed by your tutor using a range of methods, such as: • Designing charts or posters • Oral questioning in the workplace • Coursework

CHILDCARE Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner NCFE CACHE Level 2

Study Programme Overview The aim of this qualification is to provide you with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age with applied knowledge in the early years, 0-5 years. The qualification content meets the Department for Education’s (DfE) for a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner in the workforce.

You’ll need an enthusiastic approach to your studies, excellent attendance at school or your last place of study, and a clear DBS check.

How will I be Assessed? You will be assessed throughout your work placement and through a portfolio of written work.

Supporting Your Learning and Wellbeing

What You’ll Learn You will cover a variety of topics, including: • Support physical care routines for children • An introduction to the role of the Early Years Practitioner • Understand how to work in partnership • Supporting children’s play • Support children’s positive behaviour You will also need to attend a work placement and gain 250 hours experience across the academic year. By doing this you will gain hands on practical experience, equipping you with the skills to become an Early Years Practitioner. You’ll also study Functional Skills and have the valuable option of resitting your English or maths GCSE if appropriate. If required for your chosen career or HE course, you may wish to study English & maths to Level 3. Your programme consists of the following elements:

If you’re thinking about a career as a Primary School Teacher, an Early Years Educator, a Nurse or a Social Worker, then this course can get you started. You will learn about child education, community health and other aspects of working with children. Work experience is also an integral part of our study programmes, enabling you to gain essential exposure to the world of work. On alternate weeks, you’ll have the fantastic opportunity to work with children aged 0-8 years on a work placement, which is a mandatory requirement of the course. CACHE is the UK’s only specialist awarding organisation for the children, adult and health care sectors. How will I be Assessed? You will be assessed through a portfolio of written work and practical assessment in the workplace. You will also need to undertake, in both years one and two, an externally marked extended project.

If required for your chosen career or HE course, you may wish to study English & maths to Level 3. You may also be able to study Functional Skills and you will have the valuable option of obtaining extra qualifications such as First Aid. Work experience placements take place every other week throughout the course in nurseries, nursery classes, primary schools and special units, and these will link what you learn in College with practical experience.

Childcare Apprenticeship Level 2 the best young childcare professionals! get into career mode

Apprenticeship Overview Our Apprenticeship programmes will give you vital hands-on experience, learning from real life situations, with the guidance of industry professionals. You’ll gain the skills and confidence needed to excel in your chosen career. Workers in childcare need to be imaginative, patient, understanding people who can commit themselves fully to the wellbeing of children. It is a sector with a high demand for well-qualified practitioners. There are many different career paths you could take with a Childcare Apprenticeship, from Child-Minder or Nanny to Playgroup Leader or Child Psychologist. The course is a great way to build on your skills and gain a recognised qualification whilst also earning a salary.

To complete an Apprenticeship you will need an employer who is willing to support you throughout your training. If you have not found one, we can help you with your search. We’d like to see a proven track record of excellent attendance at work/school, along with a good reference from school/a previous employer.

How will I be Assessed? You’ll be assessed throughout your learning programme by a mixture of formal tests, workplace observations, portfolio building and self-assessment.

What You’ll Learn Each Apprenticeship is exclusively tailored to your training needs because it is based around your daily tasks and duties. You will achieve a NCFE: CACHE Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner. You will learn how to care for children from birth to five, and must be able to demonstrate your skills of working with babies, toddlers and preschool children. A Childcare Apprenticeship could focus on helping you to develop skills in: • • • • • • •

Child Development The role of the Early Years Practitioner Listening To & Talking with a Young Child Providing a Safe & Hygienic Environment Child Psychology Play & Learning Eating Healthily

Entry Requirements You must have 4 GCSE’s grades 3 or above including Maths and English. You must be willing to study towards a Level 2 functional skills course in maths/English. You’ll need enthusiasm, motivation and a keen interest in your chosen sector.

On successful completion of this Apprenticeship, you could progress onto full-time employment, professional job-specific qualifications, Higher Apprenticeships or a degree programme. Following further study you could work as: • A Nursery Manager where you can earn between £22,000 and £30,000 a year, depending on experience • A Health Play Specialist, earning between £19,000 and £28,000 a year, depending on experience • A Teaching Assistant in school, earning between £11,500 and £23,000 a year

Apprenticeship Overview

Entry Requirements

Our Apprenticeship programmes will give you vital hands-on experience, learning from real life situations, with the guidance of industry professionals. You’ll gain the skills and confidence needed to excel in your chosen career.

You will need a GCSE grade 4 or above in Maths and English. You’ll also need a Level 2 and/or a thorough knowledge of your chosen sector.

This course would suit you if you are currently working or looking to work in a role where you carry out regular child observations and deliver planned activities for children under five years.

To complete an Apprenticeship you will need an employer who is willing to support you throughout your training. If you have not found one, we can help you with your search. We’d like to see a proven track record of excellent attendance at work/school, along with a good reference from school/a previous employer. We also ask that you have a satisfactory level of English and maths.

It is aimed at those who have already completed the Level 2 Apprenticeship in Childcare, or who can demonstrate, through formal qualifications or relevant experience, a level of knowledge equivalent to that covered in Level 2. Level 3 Apprenticeships are particularly important if you wish to progress towards Nursery Management. The course is a great way to build on your skills and gain a recognised qualification whilst also earning a salary.

What You’ll Learn Each Apprenticeship is exclusively tailored to your training needs because it is based around your daily tasks and duties. The Level 3 Early Years Educator Standard Apprenticeship is a combination of a NCFE: CACHE Level 3 Diploma in the Early Years Workforce (EYE) qualification and Portfolio Building towards an End Point Assessment. While studying this course you will build on your skills in: • • • • • • • •

Child Development Paediatric First Aid Listening To & Talking With a Young Child Child Psychology Providing a Safe & Hygienic Environment Play & Learning Learning Observations Early Years Foundation Stage

You will also be required to attend college once a month. This is to enable you to build a portfolio of evidence of your knowledge, skills and behaviours as an Early Years Educator. How will I be Assessed?

You’ll be assessed throughout your learning programme by a mixture of formal tests, workplace observations, portfolio building and self-assessment.

You will also participate in an End Point Assessment where you will undergo a professional discussion within the workplace with an approved assessor and complete a multi choice question exam.
