How will I be Assessed?

Our full-time study programmes are designed to maximise your career prospects and widen your options for further or higher study.

Each unit is assessed by a mixture of internal assignments, practical activities and tutor observations.

This qualification has been developed specifically to enable learners to become familiar with the basics of key digital skills, needed now and in the near future, essential if the UK is to rise successfully to the projected Digital Skills crisis.

Work experience is also an integral part of our study programmes, enabling you to gain essential exposure to the world of work.

This qualification has been developed in consultation with employers in the digital games sector to ensure learners develop the skills and behaviours that give them the best opportunity to be successful when applying for work. 83% of the qualification is mandatory and provides a foundation of skills, knowledge and behaviours expected by employers in the digital games production sector of the creative industries. These skills are central to understanding the diverse nature of the industry and to creating a successful portfolio. Work experience is also an integral part of our study programmes, enabling you to gain essential exposure to the world of work.

There is also an externally marked Digital Production Project assignment.

Learners can also choose one optional specialist unit, which builds on and extends their skills and knowledge. Learners will also enhance their broader skills in literacy and numeracy, which will be invaluable in supporting progression in other areas. In addition, they will develop transferable technical and practical skills in communication, research and teamwork. COMPUTING & IT Technical Certificate in IT Support BTEC Level 2

Study Programme Overview

Entry Requirements

The course supports progression to more specialised Level 3 vocational/academic computing courses. In addition, the course may provide progression onto a computing Apprenticeship programme or employment. Within the study programme all will complete a 2 hour tutorial session relating to both employability and main tutorial themes and allocated one to ones with your designated Learning Development Mentor (LDM).

Four GCSEs grade 3 including Maths and English Language or the completion of the ICT Level 1. Learners who have a passion for IT, but do not have the relevant qualifications to get on the course may be considered, dependant on current knowledge/experience and the results of an internal initial assessment (BKSB).

What You’ll Learn

Two main core units of the qualification are externally assessed. Edexcel sets and marks these assessments. The other units are assessed by internal assignments/ practical activities/observations. BTECs are understood and recognised by a large number of organisations in a wide range of sectors and are developed with key industry representatives and Sector Skills Councils (SSC), to ensure that they meet employer and learner needs. Many industry and professional bodies offer successful BTEC learners exemptions for their own accredited qualifications.

• Install, configure and test hardware in a computer system to meet user requirements • Install, configure and test software in computer systems and mobile devices to meet user requirements • Apply appropriate security measures to computer systems and mobile devices • Explore current and emerging technologies and their purposes • Investigate how an organisation uses technology to meet its needs • Analyse the effectiveness of methods used to manage and protect computer systems and data against security threats • Explore the processes and procedures used by IT support technicians using a wide range of skills. This Apprenticeship will teach you how digital marketing and aspects of social media positively impact on real-life businesses within a range of different industries. You will develop your portfolio whilst gaining skills in the latest industry-standard software. On successful completion of this Apprenticeship, you could progress onto full-time employment, professional job-specific qualifications, Higher Apprenticeships or a degree programme.

Entry Requirements No formal entry requirements however, employers are looking for apprentices with a strong interest/passion for a career in digital and social media.

How will I be Assessed? You’ll be assessed throughout your learning programme by a mixture of formal tests, workplace observations, portfolio building and self-assessment.

This Apprenticeship provides the enhanced skills, good knowledge and competence required of an IT/Helpdesk Professional. The majority of unit/assessments can be adapted to the apprentice job roles and responsibilities.
