Future Opportunities After you have completed the course you could progress on to the Level 2 Technical Certificate. Following further study you could work as: • A Front of House Receptionist, earning on average £17,000 a year • Commis Chef/Cook earning on average £15,000 a year • A Silver Service Waiter, earning around £15,000 a year
Enrichment We want to give you a positive experience at College and a rounded view of the industry you could one day be working in. So, during your time at College, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a range of activities, including: • Demonstrations on cooking with fish, meat and bread – led by experts from the industry • Visits to farms, hotels and other Catering & Hospitality establishments • Non-educational visits to theatres, sports activities and team building experiences

Our full-time study programmes are designed to maximise your career prospects and widen your options for further or higher study.
You will need four GCSEs at grade 4 or above or a Level 1 in Catering & Hospitality.
The food service industry requires dedicated individuals who can deliver a personal service in the preparation and serving of food and drink. This course will teach you how to prepare and cook various foods by watching demonstrations and gaining valuable work experience which is an integral part of our study programmes, enabling you to gain essential exposure to the world of work.
What You’ll Learn During this course, you will learn how to prepare and cook: • Basic Meat, Poultry, Vegetable & Fish Dishes • Hot & Cold Sauces • Hot & Cold Desserts • Seasonal Salads • Pastry Skills • Preparing & Serving Food
We’ll also invite you to come for an interview and provide a satisfactory school reference.

Your programme consists of the following elements:
This course has been designed to introduce you to the exciting and expanding world of Event & Hospitality Management with areas of study including the Hospitality Industry, Event Organisation, Planning & Managing an Event and Marketing for Hospitality. As part of the programme you will demonstrate effective event management skills by planning, setting up and running your own events as well as investigating and developing the key skills needed for this fast- paced and fun industry. You will have the opportunity to complete a 315 hour industry placement programme, working for a business in the industry.
What You’ll Learn This course is equivalent to three A-Level grades (A*-C) and provides you with a practical insight into the world of Event & Hospitality Management. The units include: • The Hospitality Industry • Providing Customer Service in Hospitality • Financial Control in Hospitality • Supervisory Skills in the Hospitality Industry • E-Business for Hospitality • Promotional Skills for Hospitality
• Study of your chosen vocational subject (50% of your programme) • Employability skills (e.g. punctuality, attendance, communication and team work) • Work experience (giving you a taste of working life) • Tutorial & personal development (e.g. healthy living, volunteering and citizenship skills)

How will I be Assessed? There will be continuous assessment throughout the course based on a range of assignments and activities. These will include a mixture of: • Practical activities • Presentations • Observations • Written reports • Professional discussions • Group assessments • Role play • Exam (one online, one written)
If required for your chosen career or HE course, you may wish to study English & maths to Level 3. The course will be delivered by experienced tutors with first-hand experience from the industry. As well as classroom teaching, you will get to investigate local and national event management companies, meet guest speakers from these businesses, enjoy visits to their place of work and take part in events. You will participate in regional and national enterprise competitions and you will be given the opportunity to complete relevant work experience.

You must also have worked in the catering and hospitality trade for at least one year, on either a full or part-time basis.
In addition to training in our impressive production kitchens, there are plenty of opportunities for budding Chefs to gain professional experience working in the College’s restaurants and cafés, and to learn from distinguished resident and visiting professionals.
You will be assessed on a portfolio of evidence.
Work experience is also an integral part of our study programmes, enabling you to gain essential exposure to the world of work.

Apprenticeship Overview

This Apprenticeship will teach you essential hospitality skills, including recognising customer needs, knowing how to match them to the products and services of the business and working as part of a team to ensure that every customer, whether they are eating in a restaurant, drinking cocktails in a bar, ordering room service in a hotel or attending a business conference, feels welcomed and looked after. You will be given the opportunity to specialise in food and beverage service, barista, concierge guest services, reception or conference and events operations. The Apprenticeship is a great way to build on your skills and gain a recognised qualification whilst also earning a salary.

Entry Requirements An employer to support you throughout your training – we can help with this. Good attendance and a good reference from school or a previous employer, plus a satisfactory level of English and maths.

This Apprenticeship will teach you how to provide support to Event Planners or Project Managers, by carrying out a diverse range of tasks necessary to plan, organise and deliver an event. What You’ll Learn • The event cycle and the importance of research, planning, delivery and evaluation • Understanding key roles for event management, including logistics, production, creativity and design • How to work effectively with key stakeholders including clients, sub-contractors and suppliers • Commercial awareness and management
