Welcome to the Next Level T Levels are two-year, nationally recognised qualifications that young people study after their GCSEs. Successfully completing a T Level is the exact same as finishing three A Levels. T Levels are career focused rather than subject based, combining classroom learning with meaningful on-the-job experience. The programmes have been designed with employers and businesses, with the inclusion of English, maths and digital skills.

John Rigby Health T Level I chose a T Level because it was a more practical course. You learn more on the actual job and you can apply your knowledge to real-life activities.

A major part of T Levels are industry-based placements, where learners will benefit from applying classroom theory to the workplace, helping to develop the exact skills employers look for. T Levels have been developed by the government as part of a long-term solution to ensure that employers get the skilled workers they need to prosper.

What T Levels Involve T Levels are the technical alternative to A Levels and help young people to progress to a skilled job, a higher Apprenticeship or higher level study. They provide: • A mixture of core theory, concepts and skills, specific to their chosen industry • Specialist skills and knowledge for an occupation or career • An industry placement with an employer • Relevant English, maths and digital skills

4

T Levels are different to Apprenticeships because there’s lots more classroom study involved – 80% is classroom learning whilst 20% is on-the-job experience with an employer. Those who complete T Levels receive an overall grade of pass, merit, distinction or distinction*, and receive a nationally recognised certificate, evidencing their overall grade plus a breakdown of what they’ve learnt.

Developed with Employers Every single industry is gaining new, fast-developing technologies. Creating qualifications by working and consulting with leading employers and businesses ensures that we can stay on top of the latest industry requirements. It also means that we’re teaching students exactly what their future employer wants. More than 200 businesses contributed to the creation of T Levels, including: • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Fujitsu IBM Accenture Shop Direct Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors AECOM CITB National Federation of Roofing Contractors Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust GlaxoSmithKline Eyeconic Eyewear Royal Society of Biology Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology

Industry Placements T Level qualifications train students in gaining top industry skills through a high-quality work placement with an employer. This provides them with the best possible opportunity to enter skilled employment. Young people can put their classroom learning into practice and further develop their technical skills. Placements last a minimum of 315 hours in a role directly related to their course and chosen area. The exact length of placements depend on the T Level. The Benefits • Vital early industry exposure and the opportunity to get direct experience of their field in a realistic setting, allowing them to develop the skills they need to progress in their dream career • Develop interpersonal skills and become a candidate to potential employers • Provide young people with an insight into how their chosen industry is developing • Apply the knowledge and skills from an industry placement directly to their studies • Employers have the chance to ensure that young people are developing the skills, workplace behaviours and experience that industries need

5

The Benefits Help young people make the correct decision after their GCSEs by telling them about the benefits of T Levels, so that they can move to the Next Level!

T Levels are created with businesses T Levels have been designed with over 200 leading employers and businesses to give young people the skills that industries need. By completing a T Level, young people will gain a nationally employer-recognised certificate that details what they have achieved in their programme.

Training and learning key theory at the same time T Levels aren’t just about classroom learning - for 20% of the time, young people will be in the workplace, gaining industry experience.

Qualifications that count Once passed, a T Level provides learners with a nationally-recognised certificate, evidencing the skills and knowledge they’ve gained. It will also show their overall grade, so that they can easily progress to skilled employment, a Higher Apprenticeship or higher education.

Abbie Grindey HR Generalist at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) I supported six Bolton College T Level students on their industry placements at HPE. Placements allow students to kickstart their careers by gaining various employer-desired skills; they’re a great way of getting younger talent into the business. 6

Recognised by UCAS T Levels help young people to prepare and progress into a degree, if they don’t want to move straight into work. T Levels are the equivalent of three A Levels. See how T Level UCAS points compare to A Level UCAS points below: UCAS Tariff Points
